Well after 30 years of owning beetles as pretty much my daily, with 23 of those years being 1303's and the last 9 years being Marty, now don't own a
beetle.
I have had vanagons since 2003 as well.
The first was a bright and happy 1982 aircooled
Then I bought a WBX in 2006. The extra power and power steering was a delight
Sadly that one was written off in March last year
As much as I loved my beetle, I realised how much I missed a van.
After a fair bit of looking around, I also realised how much I (and my wife) enjoyed vanagons as well.
The Superbeetle of the van world.
So, we finally settled on this one.
It is a C - so no air cond, but I am looking at getting that added.
This thing is immaculate. Nothing has been replaced as far as I know. But every rubber is a supple as the day it left the factory.
I thought my last one was good, but this thing is just gorgeous.
I told the bloke I bought it off if he didnt want to sell it to me I would understand.
It was now going to live outside, carry a dog, go to the tip, go camping.
It was going to be used.
It came with some 17" Fuch repos and had been belted with the lowering stick. Way too hard - but it looks great.
It is going to stay that way until one day when it really pisses me off, but the wife doesnt complain at the moment so it is staying there.
We got the windows tinted, and I added a bit of colour.
Anyway, here are a few pictures of the new girl.......
Looking good Barry. Having seen this in the flesh it would have to be the cleanest T3 I have ever seen.
Congratulations, looks great. Was this one bought from a member on here?
Kev
Yeah - from Charlie
Hopefully I will make Friday
Pictures dont do this car justice.
You couldnt restore a car to this standard.
the rubber mats - perfect
cards - perfect
felt on the sliding windows - perfect
After seeing it, being a C and not a GL I realised this is what I was after and not the full blown velour and chrome strips of the GL interior.
Charlie added power sterring - which is what I really wanted more than air cond.
Being white and not with the heavy duty tint it really dont get that hot
Already had a couple of 7 person + dog dives to the south coast, some trips to the tip and numerous cruises to Tiggers at 5 Dock
Such a fun car to drive - only trouble is the wife thinks it is hers
Congrats
That is a cool looking van mate!
Happy trails.
Rob.
Looks good. Have always liked these vans.
Hi Baz
Nice looking bus, was that from the "shire" I think I remember the plates on a local car.
Steve
Glenn Alpine Steve
well done Baz.
Looking good Baz congrats!
Well - the vanagon got put to some use.
So far we have gone up to Mudgee & Gulgong to cruise the vinyards and see Diesel and Hunters & Colletctors
Took the long way home through Broke
Did about 700 kms over the weekend
Then last week end we loaded thr dog up and headed out to Lyell Lake near Lithgow.
Again - took the long road home through Hampden and Huntley Vale
Some didnt have as good as time as us
And this was before he REALLY go bogged. Sunk about another foot before they go him out
Barry,
The bus still looks grand - love the stance.
Well - got some Recaro's off Gumtree the other day
Holzl and a 6 pack and in they went
Piece of urine really.
Just had to make up a bracket to offset on rail
Recaro are 420mm wide rails and Vanagon are 390
The Recaros are the same as my last set - Proton GTi
They are so comfy
Nice looking van. Look forward to seeing it one day, soon I hope!
Recaros, possibly the best upgrade you can do IMHO.
Great stuff Barry, you will be able to throw it around now. Maybe you will even make it down to Harry's so I can see it in person Where ya been lately?
Kev
G'day Kev
It has been a long time between drinks for me at Harrys
Between rain, going away, going out and once the van was off the road - I just have not made it.
If I dont make the August (1st??) then it will be November as I am away all September and the October is the long weekend
Best $700 installed I have spent in a long time
looks great mate and comfy seats to boot!
air con a must have
Nice rims on that, are they actually Fuchs? Or the empi ones in the 112x5 stud pattern? Hows the fit?
Wheels are the airevo replicas. 112 PCD 17" ET 40 7"
Fit is great. No rubbing.
Looking good is there room to go lower?
Well - I scored some vented rear windows a while back - finally got them tinted
Mrs was none to impressed as the standard ones were only done a year ago
Anyway - finally got them in
Wow, very nice and clean, it makes me glad every time I see a nice one like yours. I know how nice they are to drive, it's hard to stop driving it..
Hi Barry,
I now see why the Super went.
Awesome looking Bus. Whats it like with the Auto for economy and Highway speeds?
We just had a weekend travelling the backroads to Wyangla Dam.
Did just under 900 Km's and used under 100 L
The auto is just so fun to drive.
Happily sits on 100 and easily goes to 110-120
Just I have low profile tyres and you hit a ridge or pothole and you feel it.
The "sweet spot" is more like 95. That is where the revs sound happy. Don't have a tach so not sure.
No air con but power steer.
With the super tint and the flow through rear windows you get plenty of air going through.
I was surprised when I found out how hot it was out Cowra way on the weekend.
my mate came round the other day and we broke out a few Tigers and started playing round
Richard and some mates are making eyebrows and he did some laser cuts as well, as well as a bit of Mooneyes cool
Got to work out how to mount this and if it needs painting
The economy surprised me. Not to bad given comfort and all that space, and the aerodynamics of a brick
pfft..... Aerodynamics.. most things with wings n things wont fit 2 full size push bikes ( assembled ), family of 4, good size esky, dog, n still a spare seat. Throwing a brick down road can be fun, should try it some time
