Anyone know where I can find decent information on the single cab version?
Technical details, dimensions, tray dimensions, towing capacity etc.
Also anyone know how reliable they are to own long term, are the electrics reliable etc, and how do they compare to Toyota?
I don't think they've been released in Australia yet? The Amarok launched with just the dual cab. They should be releasing it sometime this year.
The GoAuto review has all the major info that you need.

According to GoAuto, the single-cab tray is 2205x1222mm, towing capacity is 3000kg. They're so new that nobody will have owned one long enough to
comment on reliability.

From what I have heard and seen they go quite well. There was a 'tradie competion show' which was 3 teams competing against one another in amaroks.
(Could not guess who paid for the show). You might find on you tube?
The thing that worries me a bit, I have a 4.2lt turbo charged dielsel nissan ute.
It has a hell of a lot of torque but I do find a sit up in the turbo range at all times as I like a bit more acceleration.
The amarok obviously shares the power production over 2 turbos but the base engine is pretty small.
Most likely perfect for city use, but would be interested to see how it goes with long term 4wd use or heavy work use??
Towing the Vwdcq Fasty to leyburn with one in a few weeks, I'll let you know how it goes
Just saw one on the road here in Spain. The look like the ducks nuts and go like the clappers. You can get all the technical info on an international vw site. As for long term reliability, I don't think anyone can comment on that one.
Thanks for the link waveman!
Amarok looks great on paper, but reports on the internet show VW in general have a lot of niggling electrical problems and mechanical problems after a
number of years of use (5-10 years old), sure it's too early to tell on this model, but the track record does not look great for VW. I have no
experience owning newer VW's, just issues posted on line. The Asian based competition appears to have less issues in older age than European cars,
and are cheaper to own long term (service/parts costs). This is just in general, very difficult to know accurately which I understand.
If I was in the market, I'd be looking at a T5 single cab personally.
It's for my Dad, I can't see engine size as an issue as it's replacing an old discovery with a 2.5Tdi that very regularly tows over 2T with ease,
the Amarok has much more power and torque, even in the small motor. I only have old VW's, never had issues with towing ability, all have 2L or
smaller motor's with a lot less HP and torque, so motor size does not worry me in the least.
Amarok is nice, but not sure it's the one to get yet.
If I had that sort of money to spend I'd fit a turbo diesel to the Syncro and pocket the rest.
Look here Australian owners that actually use them http://www.ausamarok.com
Great forum is the AusAmarok forum ........ helped me a lot in the purchase of my DC Amarok.
