It is an offset ground 66mm 1800 crank, done by Lionel Jones back in the 80's

Nice. What con rods does it use. Again just curious! Dave

Yes Steve, all this was machined up in the 80's and stored since, I am helping a mate clear out his stock of VW engine parts.

We decided to build this motor from the parts he had rather than sell them separately, all the parts in this engine are from the 80's, best thing is the used parts, like the 1800 heads and case were original low mileage parts to begin with so haven't been machined to death.

There will be a couple more engines to come, all old stock parts like this one.

This guy has been around VW engines for a long time and built a lot of performance engines in the early to mid 80's, using Berg, Pauter and early Scat parts as well as some Aussie made stuff.

I have never worked with someone who pays as much attention to detail when assembling an engine, a very knowledgeable dude.

I am not sure, I think he said Chevy, I'll find out

It would be interesting to see what rods are in this, I remember Lionel Jones and Bob @ WER offset grinding 66mm cranks to 69mm and using Porsche rods.

The 25/65 from memory is a mid range cam 280* 0.420" which would make for a flat torque monster and should rev to 6500 with the 41x34 1800 heads. I only base this on my personal experience with the same cam similar combo set up and could stand corrected.

Engine uses Ford Pinto rods.

Like Fish26 says, This cam is good mid range cam, with a set of Webers it will pull to 6000 rpm no problems and still have good bottom end power.

Perezoso - April 13th, 2013 at 05:53 PM

Hey fish26,
I grabbed the engine to go in my 74 rat panelvan. Fingers crossed I will be able to get it next weekend. Looking forward to getting it in the kombi.

Cool, always nice to have a bit more poke, especially in a bus.
