Defect....Defect....Defect
Joel - September 13th, 2008 at 09:07 AM

i saw this and was just speechless so i had to share
it turned up in the homemade bastards and abortions thread so some of u have probably already seen it
but its the kind of stuff if u tried to pull it off in oz they'd lock u up and throw away the key
scarey thing is the guy drives this bug daily

it looks like it was once a nice 69 beetle

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas0-1.jpg

the most amusing aspect of it is he has converted to right hand drive himself
so as u can see hes left the dashboard as is
if it had a speedo cable the passenger could tell him how fast he was going

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas13.jpg

probably so he can still reach the radio thro the glovebox while driving

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas12.jpg

now rather than get proper RHD pedals hes hack in some LHD pedals from god only knows what
check the chopped and hacked pedal arms

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas5.jpg

the original clutch pedal has just been cutoff and had a slave cylinder attatched

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas3.jpg

and the brake master cylinder is just bolted to the firewall instead of the floorpan bulkhead

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas6.jpg

so all this fits under the fuel tank hes just wedged it onto some longer bolts to hold it up higher..... she'll be right mate

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas.jpg

which means the original filler neck wont line up anymore
nevermind just shove a cough syrup bottle in there for a fuel cap

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas2.jpg

obviously the right boss kit woulda broken the budget so he just screwed the new steering wheel to the old one with wood screws

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas8.jpg

rather than buy wheel adapters or get drums redrilled to fit those rims he only uses 2 bolt holes from a 5 stud pattern....
and im sure no grease caps are real good for the bearings to

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas4.jpg

those mirrors that clip onto the gutters kinda dangling from the door instead...

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas9.jpg

and finally what ISNT wrong with this picture....

http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg4/fast54vw/bas11.jpg

Pumba - September 13th, 2008 at 09:46 AM

Very scary:crazy:whats the go with the fuel tank bolts????

trickysimon - September 13th, 2008 at 09:53 AM

Baja Wes - September 13th, 2008 at 10:15 AM

That's why Australia has modification rules, to protect the public from these idiots, and the idiots from themselves.

When the water in the front wheel bearings make them seize the two wheel bolts will probably shear off...

LUFTMEISTER - September 13th, 2008 at 10:31 AM

At least he was sensible enough NOT to put his fuel filter over the distributor!

trickysimon - September 13th, 2008 at 10:31 AM

I dont understand why he would even post pictures on the internet. Was he trying to brag about his "handywork"?
Simon

Joel - September 13th, 2008 at 10:56 AM

it wasnt the owner that put them up
another samba member took them and put them in the abortions thread

shane, cos of his stupid mastercylinder mounted so high up on the firewall the fuel tank wont sit down normally
so its sitting up suspended on those bolts with nothing but gravity holding it in place

only in america...

greasykitchen - September 13th, 2008 at 11:57 AM

If it's in America why did he change it from LHD to RHD? Or was it supposed to make it look more 'exotic'?

vwkg - September 13th, 2008 at 01:36 PM

Fark, thats insane.

Why?.... Just why? That's so dodgy

dogo - September 13th, 2008 at 01:47 PM

Hey...wait a minute!

1. From a distance it looks the goods
2. theres a lot of original ideas there
3. He drives it daily. so it must be reliable!

It just needs a bit of tidying up...

remm340912 - September 13th, 2008 at 02:21 PM

geez im surprised there isnt a video of it on you tube

newghia - September 13th, 2008 at 03:14 PM

I could soooo win the RAT trophy with that one,
i'm going out into the garage now,
i've just found a knife & fork that will work a treat for some custom work on my ride!!!!!

Less wheel nuts means less weight = goes faster!!!

68AutoBug - September 13th, 2008 at 07:17 PM

some of His ideas are ingenius...

How would anyone think of doing the pedals like that?

its just a shame He wasn't doing the pedals on an old Yank tank.... lol

RHD cars are scarce in the uSA..
so unique and they are sought after...

but I just hope that beetle owner [Yes 1969 beetle]
doesn't do any more beetles....
for mates etc..... lol

Lee

HotRodMatt - September 14th, 2008 at 09:44 AM

No worse than some of the stuff that gets boasted about on here!

And driven on public roads!

decked dubby - September 14th, 2008 at 05:15 PM

Go check a mini truck forum. Seen worse beleive it or not.

mattie - January 10th, 2010 at 08:58 PM

in adelaide we have some of the worst cars in the country!

We have no vehicle checks unless the vehicle is defected..

I have mates with corolla`s that have twin turbo 6`s in them unless you get picked up by the police knowone really cares.

My beetle got defected time last year n i have to put the vehicle totally back to as it left the factory to clear it.

I am really thinking about the whole engineers thing.

Matt

DylanTheDubber - January 10th, 2010 at 09:13 PM

Those pedals are a similar set up to i think it's reub-rev-head with his 59 subaru bug?

DylanTheDubber - January 10th, 2010 at 09:14 PM

This guy is the FULL dodge and i thorght the beetle looked alright from a distance in the first pic.

Goitsy - January 11th, 2010 at 08:11 AM

ryana89 - January 11th, 2010 at 09:54 AM

amazeer - January 11th, 2010 at 09:51 PM

at least he appears to be using good quality fuel hose and not that crap that you get from car part chain stores or worse hardware stores. you see it at every car show.
