36hp Vintage speed motors--who's running what--
boonies - December 6th, 2009 at 11:37 AM

Been doing some research on old speed kits from down under and noticed that a few guys are going to run on the salts as part of the 36hp challenge. And this has got me curious on what you guys are running for vintage speed 36hp motors? Okrasa dual port kit?? A Judson or Pepco super charger?? Or do you have something rare, special or a one off job?

--So if you are into hoping up the 36hp motor and got the time post up a picture with a few words feel free.--

Hope to hear from ya'

--VW54--what is the dual carbi kit? Deitz, express??

--HappyDaze-- Which version of the Denzel kit are you running?

These Ozzys sound cagey......

Hi Boonies, think you need to show us some better pics of some 36er goodies first. Those first pics you posted were way toooooo crusty:lol:

boonies - December 7th, 2009 at 03:54 PM

Sure thing there boss, as soon as i get done refurbishing the Monaro 36hp kit ill post up some pics. For now I'm a bit busy tracking down some parts for a set of 356 A brakes for a german gent.

Maybe ill post a pic of them to if i get the chance.

P.S. the carb remanufacturer said that they were the worst one he had seen, like the stored under water.

boonies - December 8th, 2009 at 11:49 PM

Yep, that kind of picture is what I was looking for. Which dual 28 pci kit would that be?

In the picture?? Doubt it is Okrasa, wrong linkage, carbs, and filters for that kit.

Or were you referring to something else?

HappyDaze - December 9th, 2009 at 07:14 AM

In the late '50s the Automotive Carburettor Co. did a twin SU kit for the 36 HP VW. They quoted 0 to 50 MPH in 14.2 secs. Price - (Pounds) 43 /12 /6. There's one for all you young-uns to ponder!

Cheers, Greg

vw54 - December 9th, 2009 at 07:18 AM

yeah i see it now not Okrasa its a single inlet

rose - December 9th, 2009 at 05:38 PM

I made custom manifolds for the 28pics, linkage and copper fuel & oil lines.

Are there any other twin carb 36hp running around?

Not sure about OZ but in the states and europa there are some dual carb 36ers.

Nice job on the work, looks really clean and the balance tube looks nice.
I was thinking of building a dual set up with 34PCI carbs and a 356 A fan shroud but have not taken the time. With the carburetors turned in the direction you have them it would easy for some one to run the new Wolfsburg West/CSP 36hp bell crank linkage!

vw54 - December 10th, 2009 at 05:41 AM

thats from Boris Picnic Day

Antons car

matberry - December 10th, 2009 at 08:35 AM

I built a similiar setup, also with the carbs orientated that way, went on a '54 36er with polished rods & rockers in a 2 tone lowered blue and white 54 in Sydney. Built by Volksrestore in the early 90's.

Hi

Not quiet 36 hp, this is a Ken Virgin kit for a 1300/1500 and some random manifolds.

Steve

boonies - December 10th, 2009 at 09:47 AM

I remember seeing those over on the samba. Any pictures of them installed on an engine?

Oh back on topic, 36hp hopped up engines! ;)

1303Steve - December 10th, 2009 at 10:03 AM

Hi

I sold them on Ebay about a year ago, found them in a VW shop in South Australia in the 1980s.

hopefully in the new year... I was the ebay winner! Been on the back burner with other stuff happening but the ragtops carby started leaking the other day, so it's moved itself up the list!
Still need to find air filters, early dome type like in the other pic, or 356 mesh style, hmm..

boonies - December 13th, 2009 at 12:51 AM

Well sounds like they went to a good home.

Guess we will just have to wait for picture of that set up on a motor.

Who's next?

polak - December 13th, 2009 at 10:19 AM

Pretty sure they are as I think there are a few cars planning to run next year. Steve Muller could shed some light if he sees this.

boonies - December 14th, 2009 at 11:59 AM

Ah 36hp challenge, I figured that a few hopped up 36ers would be running down under.
