konbi run on
vwtrev1 - June 14th, 2006 at 07:53 AM

My 2litre kombi has just started to run on after turning off the key. WHY?
Nothing has been touched no new plugs or points just started on its own.
What is the usual reason for this?

Its called dieseling... a hot spot in your chamber will detonate the intake charge, usually going from ULP to PULP will stop it. You timing might be too far advanced, running too lean, or engine overheating... PULP will fix it or you can adjust timing (retard) and mixture (richen).

... and make sure the wires are on the little cutoffs on the sides of the carbies, they dont solve the initial problem, but they stop the annoying symptoms hehe :thumb

Dieseling can come from a build up of carbon deposits in the chambers. Cleaning this out with high detergent fuel can cause the motor to loosen up if it's old, though.

If Your Kombi has Carburetors....

it will have electromagnetic fuel cutoff solenoids
which stop the" run on...."

Engines cannot " run on" without fuel....

Your fuel cut off solenoids may be worn out and allowing fuel to get past --
even with the ignition off....

You won't know they aren't working until the engine -runs on.....

and as others have said..... 'run on' only occurs when there are hot deposits
inside Your cylinders.... that ignite the fuel.....

PS: Diesels don't need a spark to ignite the fuel....

pick up the PULP filler next time you fill up and your run on problems will b sorted unless its something serious.

i had the same thing with my old magna, PULP fixed it, but then so did putting it in gear and dropping the clutch with the foot on the brake ;)
