Bec's type 3 rotary
20bkombi - May 9th, 2009 at 09:33 PM

Hi all, this is my wifes type 3.
I put the 13B twin turbo cosmo engine in it back in eirly 2005 with factory ecu and 2L kombi auto.
At the same time i changed the brakes to series 6 rx7 4 piston front and single on the rear, with cable handbrake and vented rotors 320mm fr, 305mm rear.
The rims are 18x8 42mm offset and 225x35 tyres

This setup made 198rwhp on 7psi, after a hot summers day drive from gold coast to brisbane and no intercooler.

Thought i would show you some pic's, as i straighten the rear, add some bracing and add a TA45 turbo, external wastgate, microtech ecu ect.

I drove it to brisbane every day for a year and noticed after when i was pulling it apart for a resprey, that the left rear was down 15mm from the right.

The late type 3's are very week around the engine mounts, so i must do some work before it get's paint and some more power.

vassy66T1 - May 10th, 2009 at 06:37 PM

That's the kind of bracing that would hold up a roof ... so i think it might work
I am looking forward to seeing this one.

20bkombi - May 10th, 2009 at 08:04 PM

Bec said "i have a lader in the back of my car"

It's the only way to keep the body from draging on the ground. Theres no room for horns with an 010 auto, and lots of power.

20bkombi - May 12th, 2009 at 05:36 PM

Those slippers would look snazy on troy, But i don't think he has to worry as i have soooo much to do.
I'll post some more pic's later in the week after i do some more.

Started rebuilding the porsche box for my bay (Thomas) to try and make dynomaina. Just waiting on 1st gear bearing from germany, $308.00 with $43 discount. Thats why it's been apart for 8 months.

holey radioactive bird droppings Batman  that is somewhat expensive for a bearing!!! I could finish the welding on my bug for that amount.

Nice work,

What is your cooling system setup?

I'd love to do this to my poo brown beetle.

20bkombi - May 18th, 2009 at 07:44 PM

This is the old setup with out the top on.
Twin 12'' thermos but thinking of changing to a hydraulic unit, which is sitting in there at the moment .
I just finished my brothers bay 2l subi, and used the camary hydraulic fan which is running of the powersteering pump.
Works fine.

I cut two holes under the bumper. Just used pinch weld around the holes.

typethreeking - May 18th, 2009 at 07:50 PM

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - May 22nd, 2009 at 10:02 PM

20bkombi - July 12th, 2009 at 09:13 PM

Hi all, finally back on bec's car to day, after working 2 months of 65-70hrs pr week and more to come.

Hi Troy, Great fun on friday night hey!
Wound the boost up in the kombi tonight to 15psi holly crap to fast for the streets. A/F's are still around 10.5/1. (Makes me want to put me helmet on)

Heres the rear frame, still needs brace under bellhousing and engine mounts.

Sorry bout the bad light, i'll find my lead light next time.

http://i724.photobucket.com/albums/ww242/20bkombi/Image004.jpg

All the engine/ box suports, manifold wastgate exhaust position intercooler, and minor rust repares have to be finished before it goes to the painters 2-3 weeks?
Building the car is quality time just love hands on.
See when its your wifes car you can stay in the shed as long as you like.
