How to get your avatar working
vanderaj - June 29th, 2005 at 01:00 AM

There's two ways.

Use one of ours, or use one of yours.

The next two posts discuss these options in detail.

This is the easiest way:

Choose "UserCP"
Choose Avatar Gallery - it's most of the way down on the left side.
Choose one of the folders in the pane, like "Default".
A bunch of avatars pop up. Choose one and click "Update Avatar"

You're done.

vanderaj - June 29th, 2005 at 01:06 AM

This is the easiest way:

Choose "UserCP"
Choose "Edit Avatar Gallery"
Either
* type in the URL of an avatar hosted somewhere else
- or
* Click "Upload Avatar"

As long as your avatar fits our guidelines, you're done

Here's an avatar I prepared earlier:

If you need to resize an avatar pic and the PC you are working from has no size editing software, this online one works.

zalman1 - July 25th, 2007 at 08:04 PM

Hi,
Just trying to upload an avatar from my home comp, but getting this error:

Error
The ./images/avatars/uploads directory is not writeable, make sure to set the permissions ( CHMOD ) for the folder to 777 on your server.

Can anyone help please?

Cheers,
Mike.

I'm getting the same error message as zalman1 did.
I'm familiar with posting avatars at Samba, but something seems a little different, maybe even quirky about doing it here.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
ztnoo

Avatars need to be

* Less than 80x80 pixels in dimensions
* Less than 50 kb in filesize
* In GIF, JPG, or PNG format

Once you have those things in order, it should work. I host my avatar offsite, and you can do the same thing if the upload code here is not working properly.

When you go there it says 100 x 100 and 8600 bytes. My picture is a JPG, 87 x 61 and 12.6 KB and it says its too big.

Okay, I've adjusted it to 15k, 100x100 images. You should have better luck now.

thanks,
Andrew

t_tuffnut - July 31st, 2009 at 06:50 PM

Hi guys,

I am trying to upload a custom avatar. There is no "edit avatar gallery" option in my userCp, I assume I am meant to go to the "Edit Avatar" tab to do so.

My image is a jpg, 5.33 KB, 100x75px.

When I choose a file from the edit avatar tab and click "edit avatar" it takes me to a new screen with advertising messages- no errors.

Am I missing something?
Any help is most appreciated.
