Fiat 500 Subarugears conversion
Subarugears - October 14th, 2012 at 09:06 AM

OK so this is not VW but it is rear mounted flat 4 engined.

Fiat 500 conversion being done in the U.K. They have shoehorned an EJ25 twin cam and Subarugears reversed 5 speed into this little package :

Wow, that will be a scary ride

X2!

165hp in a car that had 23hp and weighs under half a tonne that will be a handful, glad to see they atleast went 4 wheel discs.

HappyDaze - October 14th, 2012 at 11:29 AM

What a weapon! Reminds me of Dick Ward's rotary-powered Fiat Abarth Sports Sedan from WA.

I agree, that will go like hell. With that much weight in the back and the wheelbase of a pushbike, that thing will want to change ends around every corner! Should be a rocketship on the straights, but I wouldn't want to push it's cornering limits on the street, because you know that as soon as you break traction you are going arse-first off the road!

Looks like a great candidate for some wheel stands

I personally believe that it needs a turbo!

So, does that mean twin-turbo?

Subarugears - October 15th, 2012 at 08:36 AM

Funny you should say that. The transaxle is our top of the range "Hybrid turbo" and the owner has stated that he will likely move up to a Cosworth Turbo motor once he gets used to this one.
I wager that once he drives this he won't even be THINKING about getting a turbo motor in it.

I suddenly want a fiat500...

I wager he won't make it to the turbo motor

tweety - October 25th, 2012 at 09:02 PM

yep, had a Fiat 500

http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy330/eaglefree/S2880003.jpg

that was in 1982. The standard 2 cylinder engine and 3 speed box was just adequate.

I could lift the front end off the ground!

anyway, any improvment is worth doing....unless you're a Fiat fanatic.

joesbuell - October 26th, 2012 at 10:32 AM

INSANE!!! :tu:

cam070 - October 26th, 2012 at 08:13 PM

Is this thing running yet?

Subarugears - October 27th, 2012 at 05:25 PM

Nah not running yet - but can't be far off. I'll post the link when it's up and doing wheelies!

lou0060 - October 28th, 2012 at 08:47 PM

good to see Aussie technology going overseas. Well done Subarugears.
