My new ride - update
Well after 30 years of owning beetles as pretty much my daily, with 23 of those years being 1303's and the last 9 years being Marty, now don't own a
beetle.
I have had vanagons since 2003 as well.
The first was a bright and happy 1982 aircooled
Then I bought a WBX in 2006. The extra power and power steering was a delight
Sadly that one was written off in March last year
As much as I loved my beetle, I realised how much I missed a van.
After a fair bit of looking around, I also realised how much I (and my wife) enjoyed vanagons as well.
The Superbeetle of the van world.
So, we finally settled on this one.
It is a C - so no air cond, but I am looking at getting that added.
This thing is immaculate. Nothing has been replaced as far as I know. But every rubber is a supple as the day it left the factory.
I thought my last one was good, but this thing is just gorgeous.
I told the bloke I bought it off if he didnt want to sell it to me I would understand.
It was now going to live outside, carry a dog, go to the tip, go camping.
It was going to be used.
It came with some 17" Fuch repos and had been belted with the lowering stick. Way too hard - but it looks great.
It is going to stay that way until one day when it really pisses me off, but the wife doesnt complain at the moment so it is staying there.
We got the windows tinted, and I added a bit of colour.
Anyway, here are a few pictures of the new girl.......

Yeah - from Charlie
Hopefully I will make Friday
Pictures dont do this car justice.
You couldnt restore a car to this standard.
the rubber mats - perfect
cards - perfect
felt on the sliding windows - perfect
After seeing it, being a C and not a GL I realised this is what I was after and not the full blown velour and chrome strips of the GL interior.
Charlie added power sterring - which is what I really wanted more than air cond.
Being white and not with the heavy duty tint it really dont get that hot
Already had a couple of 7 person + dog dives to the south coast, some trips to the tip and numerous cruises to Tiggers at 5 Dock
Such a fun car to drive - only trouble is the wife thinks it is hers

Well - got some Recaro's off Gumtree the other day
Holzl and a 6 pack and in they went
Piece of urine really.
Just had to make up a bracket to offset on rail
Recaro are 420mm wide rails and Vanagon are 390
The Recaros are the same as my last set - Proton GTi
They are so comfy

We just had a weekend travelling the backroads to Wyangla Dam.
Did just under 900 Km's and used under 100 L
The auto is just so fun to drive.
Happily sits on 100 and easily goes to 110-120
Just I have low profile tyres and you hit a ridge or pothole and you feel it.
The "sweet spot" is more like 95. That is where the revs sound happy. Don't have a tach so not sure.
No air con but power steer.
With the super tint and the flow through rear windows you get plenty of air going through.
I was surprised when I found out how hot it was out Cowra way on the weekend.

spare seat. Throwing a brick down road can be fun, should try it some time
Now... what was I doing again
