Whats everyones opinions on EMPI 40 HPMX dual carb kits?
what are they like vs. oldskool rebuild italian weber carbs??(found a set of 2nd hand working 36ida's)
But cip has a nice brand new complete 40hpmx dual carb kit with the manifold and linkage and brand spankin new.
note, its only a 1600... not anything flash. But none the less, don't mind the fad and squeezin a few more hp out.

i've heard many bad things about these. when i was doing my research the option seemed to be to buy the 'Spain made' Webers. Exchange rate is good
- you could get 40idf's shipped to your door for $800 with linkage kit (redline)

Certainly sounds like weber is the guaranteed awesomeness. thanks guys!
What kinda hp figure you rekon i would get with a 1600 twin port stock with 36 - 40 idf's and 1.25 ratio rockers & twin cannon extractors?

Probably about 38 rwhp if your lucky.
As a gauge for you.
I just set up a trike that had a freshly built 1915, by the trike manufacturer's recommended performance engine builder. The best the stock head,
very mild cam 1915 with dual 40mm IDF's with 32mm vents could come up with was..............................wait for it............a big 50.1
rwhp.
It could have all maner of inefficient setup as I haven't seen any heads or internals, but it gives you an idea of how easy it is to have a poorly
engineered engine.
Tune up by the way was near perfect after about 4 hours and 8 trips back and forth to the dyno with changes in exhaust (cannons to 4-1) chokes,
emulsions etc etc.

I forgot to mention it was also a brand new set of Spanish Webers replacing a brand new set of HPMX's that had major casting/machining faults. Today
the owner is still trying to get a response via email from the US carb supplier. One of the big one's too.

haha, 38 rwhp. won't I be the coolest kid in town
I can't justify spending that much money for that improvement. i will stick with my twin solex's altogether and throw the whole weber idea out...
The price it costs for a twin weber setup is halfway for a turbo :P
But more than enough money for fuel, a tent, accomodation and enough booze to drown myself in on a long adventure when this baja gets on the
pavement...
i could understand if it made a significant difference... but golly gosh!
