STIDUB - the neverending saga - shifter & rod mod/install!!!!

ive been asked, theres nothing too special to show currently but i figured i should make a start...

http://s975.photobucket.com/albums/ae239/STIDUB/

brief yes but feel free to ask questions as i go along, hopefully some decent stuff happening real soon

More updates later! (again not much time to post but ill try my best)

UPDATE/ what im doing outline
aim - street rego'd track capable arse kicking super! (ive told a mate ill go out to a drift night at qld raceway & have a go-dont laugh if i fail miserably)

suspension:
V-force adjuster struts
camber/caster tops
all new urethane bushings
rebuilt steeringbox - i can do yours if you like
new balljoints /tie rod ends
flipped outer tie rods from Brad (topline kit)
28mm torsion bars -more of a rough guess from other conversions
height adjuster from custom vee dub so i can raise/lower 4" easily - better than adjustable spring plates
urethane springplate bushings
I think that covers that part

Trans:
091 based box
LanD intermediate housing - to fit a bug nose cone, fits better & shifts better apparently, im yet to prove this, never driven a bus
eventually a bunch of albins gears but not enough time/$$ currently
RJES bellhousing - provided i suss out placement of a clutch mc < thats progressed to the point where its cut & weld time for people that are curious
also on the wish list is moly output flanges cv's axles & stubs

Brakes:
VWCOOLS kit
EA/EB falcon rears i believe
custom front hubs - Vwcool
5x114.3 stud pattern
all made for ease of replacment consumable parts
all standard vw bearings & seals
standard ford discs & pads who can complain about that?
calipers on the front are vr ish era commodore, may change to something else after testing how they work
using a 24mm kombi master, again need to play around making it fit with a hydraulic clutch mc, again may change this to bug, its all trial and error to get effective braking &decent pedal feel

Engine...
sti dub wouldnt be STIdub without a subie would it?

what else... umm interior im yet to even start on but typical buckets, gauges & such, yet to dive into the electrics side of things

Body...

71 superbeetle, we know what they look like
aero guards from vvds
clear lenses on early lights
76> front bumper with indicators
ugly elephant foot tail lights - ive never seen a mass produced part made so poorly
inverted firewall shortly & widened inner guards under rear guards (see westi's work on micks 58 for the guard work)

wheels...
Pre au falcon - so wheels to suit xa-el falcon wheels, the offset is +6, au> is +36 as are most late jap cars, finding low offset wheels is VERY difficult, finally picked up the set pictured
http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/ae239/STIDUB/Image0036sss.jpg
look similar to a set you can get for 911's so i cant complain :D
i would of liked 18s but these shall do for now, beggers cant be choosers, also anything under a 17" looks rediculously small under aeros so dont bother if your considering going this route :)

i think thats enough for now... any questions ill be happy to answer, yes even $$$ if you want to build similar & would like an idea (im my own minister of war & finance!)

hope someone finds this interesting, i spent awhile typing so appreciate dammit!

http://www.germanlook.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10124  < if anyone can help on this topic locally that would be awesome, westi (hoping you read this) what was the mc you used for micks?

Im intending on making up my own pedals / modifying the originals to suit the different location of the brake mc & making a pushrod/pivot for the clutch mc to suit, thats the easy bit, squeezing another MC onto that bulkhead is going to be cosy....

ps, im hoping for a nice set of dished 18x8 &10s for it eventually, from calculations they should just squeeze under the guard if offset is PERFECT, not holding my breath though. the 8s on the front might not give quite enough room for steering so may have to find some 7s but im sure i can live with them for now

economy stimuls because of the cost lee, 3k a corner rough figures for suspension brakes wheels - roughly split between each corner for the combo of all the components, scared yet? cant take the $$$ with ya & who knows how long your here for right? will be more pic worthy once my pan is rolling, 4 week wait for the bit i need next will probably kill me but i have the bolt on bits to play with still, might get some work done to the body while the floor is empty aswell :)

anyway, i forgot to put the words with the pic, im curous why nobody has done a clutch setup like this before? you can mod pedals to suit so why hasnt something so simple in fitment been done before?

including brakes & suspension, new joints bushings, bracing, wheel tyre & guard with lights to suit? i didnt just mean suspension & brakes....

actually, im curious what a beam front end is like to rebuild compared to a strut front end cost wise...
say to go from a stock standard worn out hunk of junk to all new totally adjustable - excluding labour, can anyone share?

oh yeah, the other reasons for going falcon was the stud pattern is 1000000x less restrictive & if you can find a set of porsche pattern wheels for under 1k that have the correct offsets & width to suit stock or widened guards id love to hear about it, searched for a very long time everywhere i could think of, every setup didnt quite fit right or used spacers & the actual sizing info wasnt all that easy to find anyway, personally i hate spacers & would rather get wheels that fit right by themselves, see where im coming from? :)
by the way, hows your 66 going? i havent seen updates on it for ages now...

^^^ from the thread on germanlook, anyone ever considered setting up a hydraulic clutch mc & brake like that layout on the pans bulkhead? the kombi mc doesnt really fit upright but the bug one would with the correct orientation... anyone know a good source for adapter fittings for brake lines & T peices to suit vw size fittings but with one male & 2 female fittings? will probably go hunting around for some tomorrow after work either way.
12 days till i have rear suspension that winds up & down almost as easy as my struts :D

I had a feeling that CBB made a kit if you were using a standard setup, ready to just bolt in?? obviously no good for dave, but good for anyone using a stock setup..

Cheers polak, the only thing different between this & a normal bug/kombi clutch is the direction the hydraulics make the T/O bearing & shaft rotate, the standards have more room to play with for how their pan head is shaped & the body above, the downside being the tunnel ahead of the pan/body join flares out, that may cause a problem, other than that the pedal end would be useful for any style clutch in your bugs, germanlook has more info, steve carter likes the idea too, looking to have this bit sorted out by this time next week, then soon after all cut & welded in.

ps Thought i should mention that the fuel line exit in that area needs to be swapped to the LHS of the tunnel to clear the clutch mc, also a remote res MUST be used because of the wheel well brace in strut fronts :)

oooh the thoughts of knowing the box is awesome is seriously appealing...
