Near enough done
Finally at a point where a roadworthy is not far off. Wheels need to be taken back and re -painted. Interior is nearly complete. Would like to add
driving lights ( old Wipac set I got along the way) & I have and a few other period accessories to fit - I hope to have it on the road by
Easter - see how I go. Have tried to keep it as close to stock as possible.

Top job Mate. Notches rock. After seeing yours back to original I can see our 71 getting revamped in future. The guy we bought ours off had QLD plates
71DAK for sale on ebay. Not sure if he has them still if you were interested.

Little Holiday project
Always wanted to fit a deck-lid rack - but couldn't find anything made locally. I have seen US examples on the Samba - this from Pedro Racks (but I
believe he no longer makes racks now). I reckon they look great.

I picked up a tired rack from ebay for 50 bucks - but an hour or 2 with the aluminium foil and metal polish brought it back to life.
Picked up some Tassie Oak for the timber slats, which I ran through a router first before attaching them to the rack with counter sunk stainless
screws.

Going off the Pedro example I obtained some alloy strapping for the tie downs.
I bent these to follow the contours of the boot.
I used marine fittings to attach straps to rack and to apply tension to hold it in place. Self adhesive felt strips were placed on the contact points
to protect the paint.

All up a few easy hours over the Christmas break to do the job and about $80 total cost.
Might change the alloy straps to stainless when the fabrication shops re-open (or might just leave as is).
I think it turned out quite nicely - nice addition to the car and cheap as well.

Cool rack Mate. Nice job on restoring it.
Does it hit the rear window when the lids right up?

Fantastic job.
It looks great.
Congratulations.
A new ''House of David'' sticker on the rear window would be good. I think someone on here does replacement stickers?

Thank you Gents...
The boot still 'pops' on release and the springs provide sufficient tension to hold up the lid and rack. A little fine tuning at install ensured it
didn't hit the rear window.
I agree Grazza, despite my best conservation efforts the House of David decal continues to weather away -and I would like to find a repro to replace.
