Hi

I'm thinking about getting one of these barrel air filters from Summit Racing.

Gotta love computers, I sent Leigh Harris the cal file from my ECU, he altered it to suit the new injectors, he emailed it back to me, I loaded it into the ECU and its started and idled like it always does

well, depends on the engine bay heat. intake might only be 10-15 above ambient in a water cooled engine bay when its moving.

I would think carbys with filter be more dangerous as it can back fire with flames and there is liquid fuel. There is none of that with EFI.

Hi

I just got back from a quick test drive, even on gate pressure of 8 psi it's fast, comes on pretty early as well, tune on Monday.

Thanks to Brad (Westy) for turning my dreams into solid metal once again.

He shortened the ice box for me as it was a bit too large to fit where I needed it to fit and he also fitted a coil of aluminium fuel line inside it so now I have fuel cooling on the return line.

Hi

I cant speak highly enough of how good the tuner Dvs Jez is at his job, 1st he did a smoke test on the system which showed up a few leaks and then preceded to do a few power runs, it became obvious to him that my exhaust is limiting things, so a few more mods should see even more power.

Thanks Baz, Im really happy with the new bars, just enough squat. I was running 33 psi in the rear tyres so there is lots more traction still to come if I need it

That's sick Steve..

How does it drive compared to your quick spooling little vf35..which is a non ball bearing vf34. Any lag?

With regards to the intake.. I cut my up pipe and turned it about 45 degrees so the intake runs under the front of the manifold and my filter sits just in front of my starter motor.. lots of cool air hits it there and the engine bay looks really clean.

Nice figures on the dyno!!!

could also use a foam filter from UNI filter. Couple of us guys have found them not only filter much better and finer dust but also breath better compared to top brand cotton cloth pod filters, worth a few Kw in NA applications, boost should be a fair bit more as boost engines are sensitive to intake restrictions. Aussie made too. :tu:

I used to have a uni filter ram pod.. was awesome but was really big and hard to position.. just use a KandN pod now.

yeah i just got their custom range to match up a K&N style pod. 140 D x 140 L, can also specify a custom size if needed.

And the fact I can go a whopping big sized one later for my other car that doesn't have the same space restriction is a big plus.

At least 140 D X 200 L  may even go 180 x 200

Hi

Matt its a little less torquey down low but just over 4 its hits like a hammer, but now with the new exhaust it seems to come on earlier again, hopefully a touch up tune next week.

The VF 30 is a plain bearing VF 34, but the VF 35 is similar to the VF 30.

I going to use a Mondeo (3/95 - 04) air box with the lid removed, it will sit at the engine lid vents and suck air through there, its 397 x 150, photos soon, I cant believe how it all just fell into place.

Steve

On a shit note my sons Skyline was totalled last night. Some guy jumped in his car, hit 3 cars in his street, then hit my sons Skyline then drove anther 200 metres and hit another car and then crashed into someone's front yard, all in very quiet Lugarno

with a paper panel filter or hi flow replacement?

I found the stock panel paper ones just choke the shit out of the engine.

Hi

I just made new air filter box using the base from a HC Mondeo air cleaner, I will have to see how it goes, road trip tomorrow to Shepparton to have a look at the Skyline Nationals.

Thanks again to Westy for his help with the aluminium doughnut he welded up for me.

Hi

Just got back from a road trip to Shepperton in the bug. I'm really happy with how the car performs now with the new turbo. It comes on at 4200 like you just got hit up the bum by a train.

So cruising at 120kph its off boost at about 3,000 rpm so its very quiet, it picks very nicely in 5th at that speed with a few psi of boost, if I stick it back to 3rd at that speed its nuts.

After stops for fuel etc you could really see how the new intake setup dropped temps back down again after some heat soak from the stop and something that I haven't seen before is the intake temps varying depending on load, so if I boot it intake temps would rise and fall back down again when cruising.

boost does this, you can reduce it with yet bigger intercooler. What temps do you see at full load?

In NA application its goes the other way, temps drop with more load as more air volume consumed allowing less time for the manifold to heat the air.

Another trick you could try is phenolic intake insulator spacers to stop intake heat soak.

Hi

I'm running a massive PWR intercooler already, my intake temps are usually 10-15 above ambient.

I'm not complaining about the heat soak, maybe I didn't make myself clear, previously the intake temps would take forever to drop down after stopping the car and I wouldn't get the variation I do now that is dependent on load, it just shows that the new intake is able to take heat out quickly when on the move.

I already have phenolic spacers under the inlet manifold.
