Clutch cover styles.


The first photo shows the early style pressure plates that ask the TO bearing and arms to fight the clamp load to disengage the shoe from the disc.
The early Kennedy Green clutches are like the one on the right.
The second photo is of a late diafragm, and the pedal pressure is used to invert the diafragm, rather than fight it.
The new Kennedy's are like this, and have much lighter pedal pressure for a given clamp load.
Although some are still very heavy.

Ive been running the diaphram type (1700lbs KEP) on my 1776 for years, without issues or heavy pedal, my brother runs the older style KEP(2100lbs?) in his Notch (RS Liberty powered) and it is quite heavy. I have the same type for my 2276 turbo job, and I am looking for ideas to make this car more drivable...Especially as the wife likes to drive my cars.... Anything I can do to make it more enjoyable would be and advantage! I am familiar with the CNC type of slave set-ups but that internal deal looks way more effective and more direct....Plus it eliminates the potential for thrust fork failure...

At this stage I want to remain Normally aspirated, and use a 930 transaxle with Albins dog gears.

Hmmm.... Now that looks a little sad actually.... But oh the potential!.... You might get lucky with a G50 box and find one with the OG LSD.... I'd hate to imagine the cost to rebuild one though..... There's a mob in LA that has loads of Porsche bits.... Could prolly find their details for you....

I already have a 930 4-speed which are super tough.
just need a ratio change...well four ratios actually!

Still looking for front and rear suspension suggestions.
Thinking of struts up front(or a beam?),
and semi trailing arms at the rear.
Have to stay IRS with CVs due to tranny position, and wheel base.

The mould is owned by Mike Waldron who works at Vintage.

I always knew he would... As much fun and as good as the pan car is, when you have a perfectly savagable chassis sitting in the shed and some time on your hands... What would you do?

Keep it coming-getting me all juiced up to get started on mine.I have seen a few US cars with a solid adjustable steering arm joining the 2 stubs,and a short one from the steering box to the LH stub with 4 Heim type pivots at each end of the steering arms.

You missed one crucial point... when you have a tube chassis sitting in the shed, some time on your hands...... and a spare fully prepped large capacity drag motor in the bottom of your wardrobe.... :)

This is great to see. I remember your blown car was in zoom when I was in uni, very inspirational and I was shocked to hear you had crashed it. Would be great to see it back on the track (even in NA form !).

Makes me wish I ran a company with a sponsorship budget.....

I was just about write some then I realised, what useful thing have I got to add? I feel like a google mechanic compared to your vast experience in VWs and drag racing. I can only parrot what I've seen other people do and that is no help to you.

All I can say is, get that chassis car off the dirt and into the workshop!!! :bounce

I always respect anybody with some constructive input.
Whether or not they have any experience or not, does not prevent them offering some input.
We can all learn from each other, no one on this planet was born with knowledge,
well, some relgious dudes were...but were talking cars here.

A second set of eyes, ears, or a mind, can always see things in a different light.

With my current engine and its poor state of tune(?), the reduction in weight
should see some 10s at about 120, but I wont give up until I can see a 9 again...or the money runs out!
