Gary - for the warwick weekend I didn't run any belt line seals for the windows (ran out of time). I saw a neat idea on the "Cool 56" purple hot rod oval - he was saying he used a rubber strip right around the perimeter of the window opening from clark rubber - he had to cut one edge off but it looked super neat. I'll post pics once I figure out what I'll do.

Dave, I ended up leaving the Nankang 205/65 15s on there - once the suspension settled they tucked in nicely!

Interior is pretty much sorted now - back seat is in and carpet in place. Seats etc are not brand new (trying to keep costs down so sale price isn't sky high)....all have cleaned up nicely though.

I wish I had turned up on time to Warwick to see this car.. :cry I turned up @ 9am thinking there would be people everywhere, only to find the place was empty..

What time did it start anyway?

Alan that paint work is out of this world..
Can I have your mates Phone number? I would like him to quote on doing the paintwork on my car.

Cheers
SD

G'day SD, I will have to check who originally did the paint work on the car (my mate who owned it previously paid someone to do it)...will try and find out for you.

With regards to warwick - if you are talking about saturday 30 september, I would have been there at 9am - the convoy left for the main street at 10am before returning at 12 for racing. Then sunday 1 october racing started at 9am so I was definitely there.....you didn't go the wrong weekend did you? Silly question I know (no offence intended).....but not sure how you missed it otherwise if you were at the drag strip at 9am on either sat or sunday of 30sep-1oct.

Cheers
Alan

Yes it was Sunday 1st Oct.. Man if you are telling me it started at 9am it must have been a quiet one :P

There was NO BODY in site & even driving back to Brisbane i didn't see a lot of Dubs.. There was a Blue Buggy (Not a Manx) waiting outside KFC just past Redbank on the way to Warwick but that was all.. :cry

Mybe next year my car will be finished... Naaaaaaaaaa :P

Hmmmm, perhaps you had the right day but the wrong place? There were around 35 cars just starting to race at 9am in addition to about 30 cars + show and shine, not to mention the plethora of trailers and heaps of spectators.

Anyway, would be good to see your car at the event next year - or if not your car, at least yourself! :beer

I think you may have confused Willowbank with Warwick! Warwick is about 2 1/2 - 3 hours drive from brisbane whereas willowbank is only about an hour. Mystery solved!

Wiring Q

Alan,
I saw on your other bug you went for a watsons kit for the wiring. This one looked a little more home grown, is that the case? And did you route main power to the fuse boxes first rather than through the light switch as per a '70 model?

Regards
Sean

Cheers Bails.

Sean, I routed the power wire as per standard vw through light switch - I have just replaced the standard fuse box with the modern blade styles....just needed two blocks because from memory the standard had 10 and these new ones only had 8. Cheers

Pulled apart the healthy 1600 twin port and cleaned, prepped and painted everything before reassembling. Although the engine has not been rebuilt whilst in my possession, it is very healthy and didn't see much use in its previous vehicle (potential buyer can feel free to do a compression test....I just didn't have a compression tester hence why I didn't do it).

It is a nice reliable solid engine - will be buying a new clutch and pressure plate hopefully tomorrow before the engine goes in - not long now till its completed!

Managed to get the 1600 in place yesterday and did a quick tune - running nicely!

A few other miscellaneous jobs (nothing exciting) have also been ticked off the list - getting closer. :bounce

Although the heaters won't be connected, I'll pop some hoses on (but will block the outlets) just in case someone wants to return to heaters when the car is sold.

This little beasty is getting closer to finish - I guess it will debut at the Coomera Gold coast show on 5 November (will be registered and for sale by then!).

Bumpers are on (obviously early blade style) and window scrapers are on.

Cheers
Alan

That's a good looking set of window scrapers.... where did you get them from?

... I thought the car looked good without bumpers but you made a good choice with putting the early style bumpers on, it looks smooth. Very nice :thumb

Yep I spoke to Jeff at warwick - both him and another young dude I spoke to at gold coast veedub did the same sort of thing.

They are modified rubber strips purchased from a foam and rubber place (like clarks rubber, but different name for the one down the coast). I bought 4m fora bout $28. I had to slice off one side and glue them in place (I started doing the proper scraper thing but it is near impossible to drill holes in the window channel section!).

This was the best compromise - turned out pretty well :)

Glad you like the bumpers, I would have loved t-bars but these look okay. I think it is a pretty tough looking car :P
