excessive case pressure?
my engine is a stock 1600 single port however im getting a slight spray of oil coming from inbetween the filler assembly and the genny stand oil tube
which over a week or so leaves splatters of oil on my tinware. i have a redline breather filter on the stock tube as i am no longer running a stock
air cleaner.
when i start the engine on cold mornings etc i can see light oily smoke coming in puffs from the redline breather.
and there is slight leakage around the oil slinger seal on the crank pulley.
does my case need a better releif of pressure?
should i get one of those bugpack kits? or make my own?
what do u have?

Yes you need more breathing
BUT...............
A stock single port SHOULD be able to survive with just the stock 1/2" hole.
Is this what you have??
If you take your oil filler completely off and go for a drive is it ok??
You will always get some mist - especially on start up.
Sounds like you really do need another motor.

well this motor is actually very strong barry. it has excellent compression and was only rebuilt about 2 years ago now.
havent tried taking the oil filler off.
how hard is this?
engine just has the stock breather with the 1/2 inch hold in the filler with the little redline breather on it.
as far as i know the leak from the oil slinger (if thats in fact where its coming from as i am only going by the small oil deposit that is forming in
the tinware directly under the crank pulley) is only very minor.
it could in fact not be the oil slinger at all and just be some oil running down from the cylinder tin after the oil filler leaks.

you need your air cleaner hooked up to the filler.
this will solve your problem, by adding vacumn to the case.
just like a stock air cleaner set up does

even if it was hooked up to the air cleaner.....and it had vacumm.....would that reduce the pressure? wouldnt it then just be running around in
circles?

the easiest escape for the pressure in the case is out past the pulley (where there is no seal). just the vacumn from the intake is enough to stop
this. do you have the baffled tin gasket plate under the generator stand?- it will separate the oil from the air,
it is the problem, believe me, i will bet you a beer
remeber the factory didn't do anything for no reason
got a standard air cleaner there?, stick it on and hook up the breather where it should be and you will see

ok.
i do have a stock air cleaner here but i dont want to use it as its a messy thing and not much good for offroad when u are on a nice angle and it
spills oil all over your clean engine.
the square louvred metal thing is in place between case and genny stand.
lets say i had stupid amounts of money though and didnt mind forking out for a breather kit. would this also fix the problem?
just for the future as i intend on running a different carb on this engine soon and an air cleaner without the connection option.
in the meantime i can get one of those little chrome ones with the paper element and th connection.

see if you can tap it out the bottom of the air cleaner plate you have, a simple 90 degree oil fitting, with nut on the other side, even normal oil
hose would do it. whatever your set up, anytime you can vent the case to the aircleaners- do it!
here is mine, even with dual carbs i vent the aircleaner lids to the berg box, take the hose off with either set up, i get an engine lid sprayed with
oil from the back of the pulley

Had this same problem on my 1600 when I was running a Unifilter air cleaner, made an adaptor so I could vent the breather to the carby and the oil
leak disapeared, the intake scavenges the crankase.
