engine shudder on hill start only? What the ****?

Out of the blue, sitting at the lights on a slight incline. Judder, judder, judder...as I took off

Months later and no air leaks, new push rod on pump, new filter, fuel bowls cleaned, solinoids replaced with manuals. 5 times out of 10 on a hill the motor judders as I take off. No problem on driving up a hill it is only when I stop. Some times thought she takes of fine. Judder is quite bad but stops quite quickly.

If I sit on flat, put her in 3rd, hand brake on and take off she stalls. Clutch etc seems fine. What could be my problem?

The muffler is stuffed and the baffles are loose, could they be falling over and blocking the exhaust?........

Whay you think?

sounds stupid - but i had the same thing happen to me - thought i had boned the box from dropping the clutch and what not - would shudder at weird times - relatively inconsistent - turns out the airfilter on the carb was loose and causing chronic vibration....

Something is wrong....

Would probably do it all the time with oil on the clutch...
no oil leaking from engine or gearbox?

Broken engine/gearbox mount....

these can be hard to see.....

check all gearbox/ engine mounts for cracks in the rubber....

and also check the steel parts of engine/gearbox ,
mounts etc... for cracks etc...

What Vehicle are You driving???

You may have to look very closely with a torch etc to see the cracks...

Yeah, but that usually results in other symtoms like really hard shifting and knocks as well as shudder

Check your engine mounting nuts and bolts....there were two nuts missing off my motor and it was causing that same thing.

wow. could be lots of thing hu?

I am driving a 75 kombi. The clutch should be fine as I saw it a month ago. I have a tiny leak from the oil cooler but is a drop per day. As I said I can sit on the flat and leave the hand brake on with no shudder. What do you think about the baffles or a bit of dirt in the fuel some where and a slope causing blockage?

If it was oil on the cluch it would be everytime would it not?

What air cleaner on the Carbie? I have a donaldson set up so there is no leaks.

I will check the mounts tomorrow on the drive to Bribie Island for the meet up there.

Thanks

Philip

misfiring under heavy load?
i would check for air leaks, check your timing and check the points gap.
My bus does this when cold I belive it is due to air leaks from the throttle shafts on both carbs.
