Splitty steering box questian / Problem solved!!!

G'day,
Anyone filled a Splitty steering box with grease rather than gear oil?
Was concidering using Nulon Extreme grease in it as it sticks well as I can't get any 90/140 gear oil at the moment.
Opinions please.
Cheers, Ian.

Grease is not the best lubricant for steering boxes as it is not a self leveling lubricant. Really you need something that has a hypoid additive -.a more liquid fluid As I have done a split windscreen Kombi gearbox before, hwy are you considering putting grease in to the steering boxes as you can easily fix the box by replacing the seal that leaks.

When I pulled the cover off and looked at the mechanism I decided it was best to use oil. Problem was they only had 80w90 Hypoid gear oil and I wanted 90w140, so drove the 20ks back in to town prepared to by a 5 litre they said they had (only needed 250ml) and saw they had 2 rows of 1 lt 80w90 on the shelf and searched through both these and found a 85w140 at the back, so all fixed and working well.
Cheers, Ian.
