Mick, can you post some pics of the radiator setup under the gearbox. I was going to mount mine above or at the front of the car like yours. What pump are you going to use to pump the water? Davis Craig?

Hey T54 - will take some pics tonight - its not a big radiator. Though the water tank is quite big as you can see.

Alright, a few photos.

The radiator for the intercooler is basically an oil cooler. It fits well, it isn't in any danger where it is. The middle section of the sway bar sits lower than the radiator. Should work well.

Hi Mick
I originally had my radiator for the WAIC at the back, but after I moved it to the front my inlet temps dropped by 8 to 10 degrees! Just a thought for u.

Won't the heat from the gearbox heat the radiator?

Dont know if it would make that big an impact - we can really only prove these things by running the car and measuring temps. I would of thought the radiator in the front would have dispersed more heat onto the WAIC radiator than the gearbox.

The rad i had in the front of my rotary beetle use to produce a fair bit of hot air under the lid.

it will all be good for now because it isn't that hot - really have to take it out on hot summer days and see how it responds. Same with track days or longer trips, working the turbo or not - time will tell.

And the engine sitting patiently while we wait for one more part - then we should be able to bolt everything up and give it 'controlled' spin (without spinning wheels, or breaking gearbox......:sniffle:)

The waic radiator goes in front of the main radiator for the engine, not behind, thats how I have mine, so do all the RS Liberty's.

5 degrees above ambient on the street, up to 30d above ambient on the track after 5 laps in Summer. I have the Microtech Dash units that has inlet temps, but was told not to use it as it's not accurate enough, I use a simple digital temp guage from jaycar, sender goes in the silicon between the intercooler & throttle body.
Been there for 4 years now, cost $35 from memory. U can also see the difference when u play around with different pod filter housings, (cold air box).
theres pretty much only 2 things that can kill these engines, hot air intake temps & lack of oil pressure. They only come with a 4.5L sump which is pretty lame for a 2L turbo engine, most big ends are done from Lack of Oil pressure on the EJ20T.

Funnily enough, the exact same spot u have yours. I even had it angled so that it caught air , I moved it to above the left rear trailing arm with a scoop, but it still was getting hot, so I put a big alloy radiator up front. I got it off the RS Liberty forums for $40, bargain. The temp drop was instantly noticable.

Next time u take your car for a drive, stop, get underneath & touch the gearbox. See how long u can keep your hand on it lol.

Mick, are you going to put a heat shield around the clutch arrangement?
With the exhaust in there that close especially when you really get it hot and glowing, I'd be worried about how effective it would work...
Cheers

Alright, no photos just yet - should get some more tonight - BUT - its time to start talking gearbox's.

I've talked to Dangerous a couple of times and ill be getting him to do it for me. I aim to get it done by xmas, so i want to start planning and knowing what my budget is.

Dave says he can make a strong beetle box, so i think that may be the best way to go considering the conversion is around the single side plate box.

I would like recommendations on what bits i should buy and on ratios - 5 speed an option or a waste - new case (rhino case) or stock case etc etc.

All input appreciated.

Budget wise??? about $1000 right????:crazy:

i'd like to keep it somewhere around 5k ish.

ideas?

ps - brands and pricing will help!
