[FS - QLD] **SOLD** 1973 Type 3 Fastback Convertible - reasonable offer.

Hi,

I have just inherited my family car - a 1973 Type 3 Fastback that was converted about 20 years ago. It's been sitting undercover for the past 6 years, and hasn't been started. Maggie (the car) needs a lot of work, but has all original badges, etc.

She's a fantastic car, and i really want to see her go to a good home - to someone that would like a project to bring her back to to life. The car is situated in Brisbane.

I have all the documentation for her, including modification certificates and photos. I will take photos to upload tomorrow morning, but if you are interested to know more, or have questions, please contact me via email or PM.

Thanks

I have listed the car on ebay, with a price suggested to me by the mechanic we used for years.

Buy it now of $2500 and in need of that much work???

I suspect the mechanic has some sort of leaking fumes in his workshop.

Good luch with the sale though - looks like a fun project.

This car has been around for a long time and had oodles of money spent over the years. The owners that I knew had John Alder rebuild the body/paint (it was already cut open), engine and even leather interior (which was beautifully done) in about '95 (?).Last I saw it, the owner went sailing, much like someone else we know, and she was left at the marina for yonks, in about 2001. These owners were great people, loved thier vdub and spent anything required to maintain her. Shame these things deteriate. I bet she still has some life, she would be worth something for the interior and mechanicals at least.

Just remembered the proud mum's name, Mary. It's probably Mary's daughter selling it now?

Cant have been leather to have deteriorated like that. It's a shame! You can see how sweet the thing will be again with some time and dollars.

That car doesnt sell at a min $1500 bid. Start it at $0 at no reserve and you might get between $200-$500. Not being mean just realistic as it doesnt help its value to get no nibbles on ebay and then have to be relisted.

Hi there,

Thanks for the replies, i'll take everything on board. :)

Matt, yes, it's Katrisse! My mum went overseas and the car was in storage, and then has been at a relative's house (i have no room to store her). Nice to see you on here - you were always wonderful with Maggie and mum still remembers you fondly.

To the people who have made comments about the cost - I have no idea at all about VWs, having said that, if i had the money and space i wouldn't sell her at all... i'd restore her myself. The cost that was given to me was by a VW mechanic, so i guess i thought he might have known what he was talking about?

To the person who said this:

geez, one day with a vacuum cleaner and some car wash...............how hard is it for sellers to make their goods look better ?

I am not a 'seller', i am a person who has inherited a car and she has no idea what to do with it. I am not available to spend time washing and detailing her - I guess i was running under the assumption that people might see through the dust and grime. Guess not.

All conversion & mod certificate, roadworthy certificate and invoices have been kept, as well as photos of the process of rebuilding, etc (you can see, i believe, John Adler, in the photos!).

As an aside, the interior of the boot/bonnet is still in pristine condition - as for the seats, just before she was put into storage, our dog got in and tore them up :( The dashboard is also slightly cracked, but as someone said who inspected the car today, the floor pan is immaculate, the structure as well, and there are only 2 spots of cosmetic rust.

There is 22 hours left on the auction, and i'll not be relisting her. If you are interested in purchasing her, please shoot me an email at kinephantom@gmail.com

Thanks

Its hard to get good $ back with these projects...

If she was original and not a convertible, u probably would be set.
goodluck though, hope she finds a nice home. I wouldn't mind a convertible myself. :tu:
