Squashed bug!
My bug was the victim of a hit and run over the weekend, parked out the front of our place. There was no note, but all signs point to it being
reversed into from the driveway opposite, but there's no witnesses. I talked to the guy across the road (before I had deduced it had come from his
driveway), he said he heard/saw nothing. It's being assesed for insurance tomorrow, i dont think it will be written off, but Im up for the
excess.Cops couldnt care less without a witness, they said talking to the dude and suggesting they thought he did it, "we cant go making allegations,
that would be harrasment" WTF? Unfortuneately I cant see any evidence of an accident on his car, but he's got a trailer thats now hidden up beside
the house...

Ouch! That's bad luck! People who do that have no respect or decency. Happened to my Mum's Corolla twice in the same street - no note left either
time! It's amazing how much damage a reversing car can do.
Maybe talk to your neighbour (politely of course), asking if they might know anything about it. A good neighbour would/should. own up.
All the best with it

Not too difficult to get repaired
the 1/4 panel should knock out OK
plus a new guard
maybe cheaper to get it fixed yourself
Maybe someone on here??

PS: Looks like a trailer may have hit it..

go tonight with a torch light and look for yellow paint... If its just on the side of his house... Some time late or when hes not there.
If he has yellow paint that matches urs scrapped onto his trailer, without you confessing to looking and snooping, ask him about it, put him on the
spot. Its evidence for the police too, if you can allaby it up that u didn't trespass.
If he had to move the trailer to the side of the house after the incident, thats a perfect time to suggest that u spotted the yellow paint evidence on
the trailer from across the street (wink wink). And i rekon thats reason enough for them to test it out and see if the paint is a compound match. They
can do that here in qld, but mind you, my mate who had his corolla hit and ran by a yank tank had a friend in the police force who helped him through
it.
Neva say that u were tresspassing, therefore he can't use that against ya, but it puts him in a fluster :P Just ask him why is it there...
Go for it buddy, do what u can. If you don't confess to tresspassing, he can't hit that up with the police... cause its just a 'suspicion'
Just be smart in not getting caught. Sometimes you gotta just make the moves yourself.
Note: i'm not endorsing, promoting, or being an accompliace in any illegal activity nor suggesting it as a correct thing to do, this is simply an
idea but it will either enhance or clear your suspicions... The police won't suss it out further from the sounds, the game is in your court. At least
give it a go for the principal of the situation.
Mind you if i were psyked up enough, which if my car did get hit and i was fuming, i personally would.

btw if it makes you feel better, my 69 bug had a previous knock like that sometime in teh past... came up good as new from teh outside, stripped on
the side it has a little bit of bent metal where some of the panels meet up... but u can't tell it had been knocked.
By the looks of it they just were able to knock it out...

as minor as it looks its actually some pretty heavy damage
the inner guard is bent in a fair bit where the gaurd bolts on
it could be fixed on the cheap but u will be able to tell
quarter panel and inner gaurd replacement is a pretty definate write off on an every day vw but dont let that discourage u

Even if it gets written off as long as you have salvage rights it aint all that bad. Because of the cars age it won't be placed on a register as a
written off vehicle so it will still be registered. Use the cashola to fix the damage .
I am going thru the same deal with my notch at the moment. It's been written off by the insurance co so I am getting a panel shop to repair the
damage with the payout. Should have some change leftover too.

Go and ask his neighbour that the trailer is parked nearest too if they would mind you going onto their property to look over the fence for any
evidence, explain to them your situation and that if they were in the same predicament that you would do the same for them.
Then line him up with the evidence.
A little heat makes a simmer but all will evaporate eventually.
Cheers,

It is a fail to stop accident and the local police should have made enquiries with any possible suspects/witnesses. It's not about being seen to be
harrassing anyone. It's about doing the job. If you did tell them of your suspicions and they did nothing you should make enquiries with the
supervisor at their station about why they did nothing. If you included that information in your Insurance report they may ask some questions once
they get the accident report from the police.
