beetle takes on semi and looses with photos

Well very sad day today as on my way home heading south along Bruce Hwy just went thru roadworks at Caboolture moved over to left lane after following a semi. Got up alongside semi's front wheel and well he moved across to the left lane without seeing me drove his front wheel into and crushed my door, pillar and rear section. found one of his chromewheel nut covers inside the cabin next to me. Crushed the rear rim and well I went side ways doing 100km/h slide for a while waiting for a rollover but ended up stopping in left hand lane with oncoming traffic heading right for me. Luckily able to restart car and reverse to side of the road. Had to climb out passenger door and well the beetle I would say is a right off. Didn't suffer any major injuries but sore knee and back. Just lucky to be still alive and walking.

So if anyone in SE Qld has a roadworthy beetle or Kombi for sale for under $3000 i would be interested as need one to get to work from Bald Hills to Aussie Zoo

Pity you're all the way up there. There are 2 beetles in one of the car yards down here, both under $3000

Personally I would never be on the left side of a truck unless the truck was overtaking me. You can be as right as you want, but hard to argue if you get crushed to death. I suppose that is the motorbike rider in me.

Yes probably not the best place to overtake but when both lanes going at 95 and beetle doing 100 and no one in left lane it looked a good choice. Have done it many times but I was simply in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

Dont worry I can totally picture the situation. It all seems good, and works out good most of the time. Like I said I am a motorbike rider and I see a slightly different perspective. In my eyes all vehicles are going to change lanes without looking, all cars are going to cut me off, all cars are going to come out of give way signs etc. It makes me drive very defensively and keep out of everyones way all the time.

i drive through that stretch every day and cringe when i go over the bridge area, there is hardly any room for a tuck and a car to pass, there must be heaps of accidents there, post some pics of your car, it may still be fixable if you are desperate?

Yes,
It is fixable...

Looks nasty... I wouldn't have liked to be in it when it happened though...

takes some force to do that to a wheel rim...

Sorry to hear about the accident. It's heartbreaking seeing a VW wrecked  Glad you're ok though.
Would you be willing to some parts off it? I am after the chrome window rubber trims from the front, rear and back side windows.
Cheers,
Mandy

it does look pretty repairable at a glance. i can't imagine what it looks and feels like to have a trucks wheel doing that to the side of your car.
