i think i will get brennden to hit it with the buff, heaps of crap and over spray on there but should come off. The tin work inside cleans up well, just need some longer self tappers to fix that rear panel in place. i did fine a few hornets nest in there !!!

You'd prolly be pretty close there Al. Dangerous how much did it weigh taking into account the extra weight of the autorotors etc etc?

Wow that looks cool. I think you should change those rear boots though for some wider ones just to make sure you have enough traction!!!
Doesn't look like there is too much to finish it off, will be awesome when its on the track.
You would be well into the tens with this wouldn't you?

Troy informs me today that a front beam has been sourced and will be narrowed and refurbished with new bushes etc etc. spindle mount front wheels have also been sourced and my uncle is possibly going to his place tonight to look at front end to engineer mounts for beam as well as mounts for tilt nose, fuel tank, battery etc etc. A sponsor has already been acquired to paint the car and get the body all in order as well. Family is getting behind the car with plenty of support and offers to help out!!

had a look tonight with my uncle from volks engineering to see what we will do with the front end. We will start taking measuring things over the next few days and order some steel to start making a frame head so we can bolt the beam onto it. Not sure if we will use the torsion bars or go to a coil over shock...

I have tried to track down some picturesof how it was.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/RackMount9.jpg

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/RackMount8.jpg

This one shows the rack mount,
but the short tie rod had unsatisfactory bump steer.
So a single anchor point on the rack was made with long tie rods.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/RackMount3.jpg

This was after the crash, but you get the idea.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/RackMount5.jpg

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/RackMount6.jpg

The unusual thing about bump steer with the VW style beam front,
is that the tierods are best following the same arc as the trailing arms.
For this reason, the short side of a VW steering assembly actually is beter than the long side.

Also, the installed height of the beam, and the staic angle of the trailing arms,
decides wether the rack is mounted low or high.

As and example,
on an off road deal the rack is normally mounted on the top tube.
But on my old set-up,
optimum would have been to mount the rack low.
But unfortunately by the time I worked that out, I already had the beam, rack and fuel tank mounted.
Plus the master cylinder and other stuff would have interfered with the tie rods or rack.

The end result was pretty good though.
less than 3mm toe change over 6" of tavel.
Stock VW is horrible if you ever check yours with a lowered beam.

i have just started to get some measurement and ideas with this beam donated by peter page(thanks mate). I want to run the top bars flat across the feet area giving more room. I will get the beam narrowing 4 inches and start bending some bars and get ready for some welding.
