That's cause I couldn't get the old one on the passengers side unbolted 
And I hate the new one on the drivers side anyway. It tangles too easy and doesn't feel the same as the old one. I think I might put the old one back
in.

Excellent work on the rear brakes, they are almost made for the job.
Thats the ideal rear disc setup to have with drums for the handbrake.
The modern ones that just lever on the piston for park brake are crap.
Hows the bias with them being from a heavier front engine car?

Bias is still towards the front. It'll still lock the front wheels up first on the road. But you're stopping so quick you barely even notice 
I just need more braking on the back now. You can buy plenty of brake upgrades for a Commodore, which is another reason why I went this way

Not being able to go a few days without taking a grinder to the car. I decided to do something I should have done months ago.
Shock mount all trimmed for maximum ground clearance. This has actually hung me up before in some ruts a few months ago.
Went and did some local tracks to see in the New Year. Hope you all had a good time and have been misbehaving yourselves
I can't say she'll outflex a 4WD. But it certainly has a lot less trouble driving this sort terrain.

Hey all. A couple of quick updates with some stuff that's been happening with the car.
Dad bought me some new lights for the front. So I fitted them up one afternoon. I am still running the 130W bulbs that I had in the old ones, but the
new lights have far better reflectors and work great! Plus they are blue so match the car
Here is the new lights.
And here is a shot comparing it to the old ones.
Both fitted. it didn't take long cause I used all the old wiring and didn't have to move the mount holes at all.
All fired up!
They shine out a very white light, which is a lot better for your eyes if you're traveling long distances with them on.

Well I made some good headway on the second fuel tank over the weekend.
As I mentioned previously it's a standard Bay Kombi tank and I'm fitting it behind my rear seat. I go the frame made up previously and got some
holes drilled and welded nuts to the underside to hold the tank down. I'm using standard beetle fuel tank clamps. 3 per side for a total of 6.
The backseat area was next to cop the grinder. Making a hole for the bottom hump in the tank to sit through. So the outline it external of the
interior. This will all be sealed up.
And now the tanks sits down in plate like it should.
Made up some feet for tank supports. And fitted them to the frame. Sorry for the blurry picture.
All mounted in place. Now we just need to work out the filling, draining and breathing. And a firewall to cover it all

Ok. So now it's time to cut a big hole in the side of the car for the filler.
I marked everything out with tape to try and get it all in the right spot. I wanted it to line up with the bottom of the side window so it will be
aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Mighty big words there
I was originally going to hole saw it out. But the holesaw was blunt and my battery drill kept going flat. So out came the grinder again!
All cleaned up with the die grinder.
Here is the filler section that I cut out of the Kombi when I got the tank. I cut it down so it fits in the hole perfectly. Will be using the standard
Kombi rubber elbow at the top and cut down metal fill line too.
And this is how far I got through welding it in before I ran out of MIG wire. I have another spool, but it was getting late so I decided to call it a
night for now.

That's a really good idea relocating the lower shock bolts up and lopping the bottom of the trailing arms.
I've bashed mine in on several occasions too.
I've got that exact same set of blue Narva Ultimas on my 4x4, one of the best upgrades I can recommend doing to them is fitting a HID kit.
I've gone through and done that with all my cars now, makes a night and day difference if you pardon the pun.

Yeah. Also gains a bit more down travel too. I'm At the limit of the shocks now though.

depending on how much beach work you do at night, I can't recommend the HIDS. The salt spray off the ocean has the same effect as fog and the HIDs
just turn everything into a white abbyss

I'm still going to be running normal halogen light for my headlights. If I fit HIDs it will only be into the driving lights. So I will be able to
turn them off when they are too bright, like on the beach.
I'm also looking into maybe getting an LED lightbar too

Got a tiny bit more done on the car tonight.
Both tanks will not feed into the engine at the same time. They will be independently selectable from a switch on the dash. I will only have one fuel
gauge, so when you switch tanks it will switch over senders too and display what is in the selected tank.
I've bought a dual inlet, single outlet solenoid fitting to take care of this. It has two positions. Energised is one tank (one inlet), and not
energised is the other. You can see it here with the new fuel filter I'll be fitting at the same time.
And here as another shot of the new filter. It's a bolt on replaceable one with a water trap and drain bung. I just have to get some fittings for it
to suit my fuel hose size.
I got some more MIG wire and finished welding the filler in. Ground it down and primer it for now. I will have to spend a little time filling and sand
the area before a proper respray.
Here is what the elbow looks like hanging on the inside.
And with the cut down Kombi filler tube fitted with some silicon hose.
I also made a start on templates to make up the covers for over the fuel tank.

Well this afternoon I replaced steering box number 5 with steering box number 6.
I have a few things I want to get finished off on the car in the next few weeks and then the rack conversion in going to be right at the top of the
list. Ideally I would like this done for the Gold Coast VW show in May.
More soon, I'll try and keep busy.
