The CLA(there is 5 of us now) is slowly putting together the parts to build a still undecided salt flat racer our stash of parts is looking pretty good a heap of 36horse engines, old school ratio rockers,a couple of magnetos, bob hamilton nitrous kit and a 1950's mag supercharger with side draft 40mm weber.K and j motor machine are sponsoring us with all machine work head porting etc.We will probally be at the 2011 event as a couple of us are going to run a number of the nostalgia drag races bris, bernaraby, and sydney but I'll post some stuff down the track.

I have this complete Swiss made Mag Supercharger for my 56 Ghia lowlight project. This is an original one, apparently Almar from Belgium is going to have a complete repro available soon for US$6K complete if anyone's interested. I have seen the quality of the castings though..it screams repro..less than 20 original complete sets worldwide. Still got the Type4 Porsche fan shroud motor idea lurking around though:cool:

Never seen this anti surge sump as such. Do you have any other pictures of the unit?

Thanks!

Here are a few "finished" pictures of the Dual SU carburetors.

The kit has been installed on a stock 36hp motor that is currently living in our 61 bastard oval. There have been some modifications to the linkage and we had some custom air cleaners made up. Currently we are working on the fuel line and hope to fire up the motor sometime this weekend. Good luck!

We also purchased a lot of Modern Motor magazines and had them shipped to the USA in order to go through them and scan any interesting VW articles. 1/2 of the Dual SU carburetor article was posted on this forum but here it is complete.

If you want more info on the sump, go to

http://www.stanpobjoy.com.au/

I've got one on my 1300, it works a treat never seen the oil light come on in a fast bend or with the bum hanging out.:tu:

SU carbies are pretty good. Fitted a pair of 1 3/4" (about 44mm) to my 1961 Beetle - in 1961.

Once they are set up correctly, they work extremely well. The variable chokes - controlled by throttle position/manifold pressure, give close to the ideal choke size at all times. This was particularly handy in my case, as the car was my road car and race car all in one. It clocked 102 MPH at Bathurst, and returned around 30 MPG on the road.:tu:

Cheers, Greg

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!
