Now on Ebay. RARE - Brand new steel front guards (suit Oval).

Hi all,

I think I can say Rare on this one as I dont believe these are available off the shelf from any shops here in Australia. Correct me if I am wrong. CIP1 state they are for 46-66 yr models.

I bought them recently, having to have them shipped from the USA but will not be using them. They are obviously reproductions, not original VW. I am offering them here first before putting onto ebay. For this week only, I will be happy to cover what they cost me and you can check yourself via CIP1.

When I bought them, I got them with a heap of other stuff to make it cheaper re shipping etc, so I can not tell exactly what they cost to ship. Although I have just checked and they would cost over US$500.

If someone wants them this week, I will take $500 Australian. I still have the very large box they came in, but dont really want to post. But I will box up if you organise pickup and you pay for the transport. The guards must be paid for first, before I will let them go.

I'm In Sydney, Liverpool area if this helps.

Cheers, Kevin

Sorry mate, not wanting to sa something bad, but Oval and late 50's guards have a different shape to the 60's guards. Yes they will fit, but they wont be correct for an oval.

No problems!, But I didn't buy these to suit my 61 model, I bought them to suit an Oval. I am only quoting CIP1 when they say 1946-66. They dont have the indicator hole in the tops of the guard like the ones to suit my 61 and there are three holes in the headlight bucket, which I believe is the same as an Ovals.

And you saying they have a different shape, this is what I noticed compared to the ones that were on my car and this is why I am not keeping them. So to correct you (sorry), I believe these are correct for an oval.

Hope this clears it up for everyone else.

Regards, Kevin

they dont have the steel wiring tube coming out of the headlight bucket as per the earlier guards but will do the job fine if you arent looking for originality points at a show.

Fellas, ya killen me here. They are what they are, reproductions not originals.

Yes, I understand what you are saying but maybe you could send a discrete PM rather than broadcast it to the world and make things harder for a person to sell something.

Answer me this, is it rare to find new 'reproduction' front steel guards in Australia for sale. Not saying it cant happen, all you have to do is buy them from overseas and pay shipping for a large item.

If nothing else, this is keeping my post near the top

Kev, Not trying to make it harder for you to sell these, but trying to pass them off as reproduction OVAL guards is incorrect. They are a totally different shape to oval ones, they are also a little narrower than oval ones, and just cause it hasnt got the indicator light hole cut out does not make them oval guards. oval guards have for starters a metal condute from the headlight bucket, to the body, for the wiring to go through. there is no mention on CIP1 that they are for Ovals, and even does say that they are different shape to originals.

Not saying the price is bad, or the product is bad, but dont try and pass them off as something that they are not.

Nectar.

Unity-28, you are exactly right and I have mistaken them as being for an Oval just because of no indicator light hole on the top of the guards (my lack of experience).

As to the different shapes you mentioned, I think this mean all their guards not just the ones I am selling as this wording is mentioned in all front guards I looked at no matter what year.

I have bowed to pressure and amended the title :sniffle:

Thanks, Kevin

I am surprised no one was interested in these as you cant just go and buy new steel front guards here in Oz. I will be putting them on ebay later today.

In addition, I had a nice gentleman over here the other day that did his apprenticeship on 50-60 Beetles and he pointed out the difference in the section of the guard where they kick out and meet the running board. He said if you could make the steel pipe for the wiring then they would make very good reproduction Oval guards.

Thanks for looking, Kev

Sorry, but just a reminder that these finish about 10pm tonight and there are 9 people watching (not that means a lot:no:)

Only the first time advertised and some people may still be away on holidays, can only try.

Thanks again, Kevin
