4wd Beetle???

Was just over at Brickyard and there was a post about a company that does Subaru transaxle conversions

These transaxles can be used with rear-mounted Subaru engines to create a number of different drivelines, for example :

· 4wd VW type 1 beetle (torsion bar cutting required)
· 2wd VW type 1 beetle (no torsion bar cutting required)
· Replace the VW driveline in a 4WD Syncro
· Convert a 2WD Syncro to 4WD and replace the VW driveline.

Here is the link to the company

http://members.iinet.net.au/~ttriebler/index.htm

Could be interesting

Could be some REAL interesting Baja's hitting the road (or dunes) soon??

Barry

There used to be 4x4 beetles used in rallycross in the UK about 30 years ago. I remember watching it on telly and from what I recall though they were 1303s.

With swimmer runninggear basically, but a top speed of only about 70km/h.....doh.

Hardly strong enough for a 2180 IDA motor. Handling might also be a bit 'interesting'.

I vaguely recall reading about a 4X4 beetle years ago that used a Datsun rear diff in the front.

All very interesting. Thanks for the pics Daimo, saw that Euro bug a while back. Would be an extreme amount of fun thats for sure.

I'm sus on this Subi box for use for offroad, more of a rally setup I guess, as the final drive works out to 3.73:1. Anyone know the Subi gear ratios?

The budget option is still the Renault in my books.
