Steering stabalizer/damper

Folks,

My current steering damper is well and truely rooted, and I'm having troubles tracking down a suitable replacement. What do you guys use - bear in mind this is a racing, tube frame, buggy with a K&L front end, and a centre mount rack (not a standard VW unit), without power steering. The original damper appears to be an OEM VW unit, to give you an idea of size - I had been recommended a BIlstein unit, but they don't make the particular model any more, and there's no direct Bilstein alternative.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.
