sorry you see it that way....but there are two sides to every story....

I wasnt trying to offend anyone, and certainly dont appreciate being called a moron for trying to take on both sides of this story.

so sad that it comes down to name calling....aren't I entitled to an opinion like everyone else?

very mature vw mad....I actually stopped name calling etc. in primary school.....you might too when you finally graduate.

I totally agree with Johnharte that there are vehicles out there that maim and could kill....surely that is all the more reason to make an inspection....isnt it?? I do know the seller, and have had nothing but good dealings with him. I do feel sorry for the purchaser....but as was said earlier "buyer beware"....but obviously no-one feels that there is any responsibility to be placed on the purchaser at all.....

Paul,

How much was the van sold for?

I really think your missing the point here - The van was sold as restored... The pictures show some shocking attempts at welding which could have had deire consequences on someone...

If it was NOT sold as restored - and as 'Sold as Seen' which is what usually happens with cars at the lower end of scale you could have a valid point..

Fair point.

I dont know anything about what it was sold for etc. but assume it was a fair bundle of cash.

hope you arent referring to my type 3!!!....because that has nothing at all to do with this discussion.

and for the record....I AM NOT THE SELLER!!!

As I have said earlier, I know NOTHING about this deal at all, and was only trying to view both sides of the story.

sorry for having an opinion

The blokes a jerk, there's no doubt about it.

But, this all goes back to the golden rule of buying a used VW.

NEVER BUY A CAR UNSEEN.

Hate to see a good bloke go down like this, but I hope we've all learnt a valuble lesson.

Some of the things I've pulled out of Kombi's that I've wrecked over the years would make your hair stand on end... newspaper, sandpaper, chewing gum, timber offcuts, chickenwire.... and the list goes on! One bay I bought for peanuts had a slab of bog that I rippped out of the right hand side that was over an inch thick and about 5 inches high, and almost 2ft long... and there was no metal at all on the other side of it... I could see through into the cargo floor, above and below!!! Scary part is that this one had been registered 3 years prior... but there was about 10 years worth of rot and a metric assload of bog in the windscreen pillars, and the welds at the front of the Y-members were both rustedright off...

ANother one had the rotting remains of a plank of wood secured to the remaining metal above the sills with chook wire and had it bogged over... I came across it after I pulled out the cabinetry....

Pfft.....bog ONLY an inch thick???

I've seen "restored" Karmann Ghias with more than that, both in the sides AND on the nose (so to speak lol).

Also an early beetle comes to mind that I repaired in the 80's that had lead wiped repairs in the A pillar, 'great' I hear you say.... but there was so much heat used putting in the lead that the pillar was totally gone from the rust that developed under the lead.....

Hooooooly dickcheese!... I hope he wasn't running the standard 1100 in that barney... not a chance of taking a hill with all the bog weighing it down!

Cripes, ya gotta wonder how much extra these clowns actually spend on bog to fill this crap up vs what it'd cost to do it properly... not to mention labor involved in bodging it. I imagng as far as materials goes it'd be much the same either way.

Hell, I know I find it a shitload easier to just cut a rusty old chunk of metal out and cut out a new bit to weld in than tryibg to fartass around with bog... a lot less messy too, and the satisfaction of a job done right. :tu:
