yea there is also a brush on and spray on type i noticed....but i think the beauty of the dynamat is that it is really thick so it works better....i
believe it is a tar or rubber based product...it is mainly used for car audio systems but it also reduces road an engine noise.

My Son is doing his 61 Kombi at the moment...
its very thin... and heavy...
He bought a box of it... and will need another box...
its too heavy .. for Me...
You don't need any extra weight in a beetle or kombi...

Thats how it works, by adding weight to sheetmetal it stops the vibration/drumming effect.
People make the mistake of covering every square MM of paneling when its been said by dynamat it only takes about 25% coverage to give good results

Absolutely true. If you want good sound deadening, the proper way is to use a small square of Dynamat or similar (it's a bit overpriced for me) in
the middle of each panel covering about 25% of it, and then cover the whole thing in sound-absorbing foam or felt. This will be cheaper and lighter
than an all-Dynamat install for the same noise reduction.

yep thats it i was speaking to a guy today who has it in his car for car audio stuff and he puts about a 30cm x 30cm piece behind a speaker in the
door and then uses sound absorbing foam for the rest.... he also has put 2 30cm x 1m strips on floor pan to try to minimise road noise.....i think if
you were to put a large pice on the wall infront of engine on a bug it would make it alot quieter....

Anyone intersted in a local, cheaper alternative? I just started speaking to an Oz company who make an equivalent. They have been making it for a
slightly different application, but its more or less the same stuff, just a damn site cheaper.
I have offered my car as a test bed, but it still won't be ready for it for months.
But if you guys are interested, add a note here and I'll let him know people want to take a look.

There are plenty of cheaper alternatives. Jaycar list some in their catalogue, as do most automotive carpet and trimming shops. Also, apparently some
types of roof flashing tape are very similar.

Hi i did some researh about prices and dynamat is very expensive to do whole car, eg guy here in adelaide paid $3500....for his combi . Well what i
decide i bought some that thin stuff that goes in roof and i am going to double folded and use that on floor and then carpet on top of it... My
trimmer has given me that advice, hope to get it all done and find out how much quiter is but i am sure it will be quiter..

Just an update. I am chasing up more details on the local material. But the more interest you guys have I.e more posts, the more I can oust them.
These guys make stuff for other applications, so it's just a matter of a samll mod tho their production process to make stuff for cars. Th36 may also
have something we can use off the shelf. Stray tuned and let me know if anyone else is interested.

Well, I am ready and willing to lay down cash before the end of this year for vibration damping and sound insulation material for my S-bug, so I'm
interested in any good deal which an Aussie company can make me. I'm definitely not going to waste my money on the Dynamat brand name, at this stage
I'm looking at the Jaycar stuff, but give me some details and I'll be interested.
