door vent window removal without destroying the rivet? readily available replacements?
I'm about to fit new quarter window seals, however from a number of sources it states i need to bust the rivet and replace when refitting.
can i replace the seal without doing this in a fashion that isn't bodgey?
if i do destroy the rivet, are they readily available to replace? is there other hardware store rivets that can be used that look tidy?

Why not undo the screws that retain the upper bracket & slide the window out to fit the seal?

the upper bracket has two other rivets that retain it, not screws.
Note: its a 69' bug. the earlier ones (pre 65) have different vent window seal fitting methods. The frame with the seal, and the vent window comes
out of the door together on the later bugs.

No I mean the screws that retain the bracket in the door,remove these and slip the window out,fit the rubber over the pin,slip the bracket into the
slot in the rubber and refit the screws, then fit the rubber into the frame.

When I replaced mine I drilled out the 2 rivets that hold the hinge to the outter frame under rubber where it sits inside the door so you dont see any
of it and normal 1/8" pop rivets work.

I have done quite a few quarter vent windows on VW and old Holdens. I prefer to keep the original 'pivot rivet' and drill out the two rivets that
hold the bracket to the frame. They are under the rubber and dont move, and are not seen, so you dont change any originality of looks or engineering.

Ive replaced the quater vent rubbers.You can get the original style rivets for the top pivot from Wolfsburg west.I drilled them out and used a centre
punch too replace the new rivets.They also come with a replacement fibre washer.

Yes Chris,
the rivets are available...
I have seen where the rubber seal is cut instead of taking the rivet out and glued with super glue...
and some NOT glued back at all.. lol
I have seen stainless steel screws used... with flat heads
allen keyed etc... but its a strange size...
