As quick bug said you can make it fit but allow a lot of time

its Empi or bust.
Does the 36 hp shrouds cool the same as the 40 hp ones?

I prefer the Scat tinware for fit, but it all needs work. Ain't my fault there's so much shit available, I just fit the stuff to a higher standard
than most too.
The problem with all the aftermarket 36hp shrouds is they only weld the internal vanes to the rear skin so they can crack and come out, but if your
not having stock heaters they are the best way to go.

Ok, thanks Matt.
I will ring Vintage in the morning and see if they have a Scat shroud, then weld the vanes to the other side as you mentioned. All this crap just to
fit twin carbs.

Instead of weldig the vanes, you can use polyurethane adhesive to glue insid to stop any crack causing vibrations. Saves wrecking the nice outside
face.

Yes
its probably worse than normal EMPI [chinese made] stuff
36 HP shrouds didn't have the heater air coming from the shroud, they took the hot air from the engine as it came out underneath..
maybe they do fit 1192cc tinware???
but not a 1500 or 1600 ...
they need to be redesigned..
IF You don't want heaters plug the holes or cut them and weld a plate over them
If You want the 36hp look... YIKES

Im not sure where you get cutting the heater horns off.
The problem is the carbs hit the shroud, as some have said, the correct manifolds can help, but i have looked at all the posts on the samba and
everyone who has the 40 hp shroud has too use only the cb manifolds and then they have to remove the choke. I couldnt get cb manifolds today, plus i
cannot do away with the choke, it is a mut where we live. So is the heater, looking at all the pics and posts on the samba, the 36 hp shroud is a
great solution. Plus i already started cutting a 40 hp shroud and by the time i got it to where the carbs fit its looks the same as the 36 hp shroud
anyway.
The 36 hp doghouse kit will turn up tomorrow and i will just have to trim and file until it fits good.

there was a "how to" somewhere. They shaved the "sides" off the shroud so as to take off the heater outlets.
It ended up looking like a 36HP.
This way it kept the original vanes inside

Ye but after 6 hours work, you just end up with a 36 hp shroud with no heater horns.
Im not sure what point your trying to make.
I can buy a 36 hp doghouse shroud with heater outlets for $90 and just bolt it in.
If i do that mod, i reckon 6 hours work, tig filler rod, gas, etc adds up to heaps more than $90. Admit it would be better quality than the Scat
shroud but heck, who could really tell when its all together

Check out the pic from my post about the dellortos hitting the shroud. Matt posted a pic of a beetle with twins on it and it has the 36 hp shroud.
You can see the room it gives you near the carbs. This engine i have has the 40 hp shroud and its too tight a fit, as some have said, you can select
the right manifolds and get them too fit with a 40 hp shroud, but you cannot run chokes.
I got a 36 hp shroud and it is a perfect fit and even the chokes are still on the carbs, in my opinion, the 36 hp shroud is the only way to go with
twin carbs, you can get with or with out the doghouse and with or without the heater outlets.
At $90 is an easy and cheap fix.

I just got new tinware from George, who told you about the chokes. Maybe true, but i live in Wodonga, for 5 months of the year we wake up and have no
water because our pipes are frozen and have to scrape ice of the windows, i want too keep the choke lol
