Help with Clutch Cable Tube
Recently I had a new motor installed in my bug, along with a new clutch. I had the clutch put in because there was a bad wobble in the rear end. It
turned out that the wobble was actually caused by the clutch cable tube that runs through the tunnel. It had broken away from the tunnel, and was
basically sliding around in there.
Now, the mechanic welded it up where it exists the frame at the back, but told me I would need to cut the tunnel and re-anchor it inside.
What I need to know, is where do I cut on the tunnel to get at it, and how do I go about re-securing it. Is it just welded in place?
I'm hoping someone else has had this problem before and can tell me what I need to do, and where to cut! I don't want to cut through the clutch
cable, or worse - fuel lines! lol
Thanks in advance!
Dave

Blackbug,
Below are Daimo's measurements for the front from when he helped me with the same problem. To weld the front of the tube you drill a hole in the side
of the tunnel with a 2" hole saw. The rear end you get access through the gearshift coupler inspection plate and Daimo recommends one in the middle
of the tunnel on the side for good measure.
For the rest, see more info throughout this topic:http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=78049

just measured, 2 inch saw (1 1/2 will do), pilot point 70mm back from centre of big hole in tunnel where pedal cluster goes through, 90 mm up off
floor should get you bang on the money and be good for welding and hooking up cables forever more, i'm hoping (well midnight measurements) this point
will bring you in just above the tube braket so you dont cut into where it is welded to the side of the tunnel
|
Measurements were spot on for me and I haven't had a problem since. Future clutch cable changes will be a breeze,- don't even have to remove pedal
assembly.
Regards,
Matt.

You guys rock!
So if the rear one has already been welded up, there's only the front one to do??
Do you weld the hole up again, or can you just leave it?

All being well with the rest of the pan, it's okay to leave open
Yeah just the front to do , but I like the middle one as well as per matt's linked thread.... Takes the pressure off the other two which you will
have repaired. Effectively the risks of having to do them a second time become somewhat touch and go
