Not VW; any experiences with Peugeot 207

As in the title. Good or bad....

A family member is wanting to buy a 207 new. Any reasons to give em a swerve?

My brother has a second hand Gti, he likes it, ,though being french with a smaller number imported parts are a little more epxensive that the corolla or similar. That being said, i have no expeince with other european hatches to compare with, only suzuki swift and corolla.

I can ask more if you want?

Try french care care, they may be able to shed some light on them.

Parts are very expensive for all Peugeots but on the plus side the diesels are good on fuel.
A big problem though is because they are made to drive on the right hand side of the road and have no caster or camber adjustment they drive bloody terrible.
They have the wrong caster split for driving on the left hand side of the road so they pull left badly in a straight line.
Good luck with the car purchase.

Cheers Col

Crikey, thanks for the replys guys. Doesn't paint a good picture. It's my mum wanting to downsize from her '96 XJ6. She's had Renault's and Peugeot's otherwise for many many years. She's wanting new, won't have Japanese or German (and a few others) basically European only....... a 207 for 21k seemed an ok deal, although surprisingly, the comparisons I've seen so far compare it to a Polo (I would have thought it was more like a Golf), the Polo wins of course.......

not had much to do with them since moving from the uk but had a few 209's and 309's and a lot of mate had them to... no worse than another car really yes some had issues some didnt... mate had a 209 1.6gti from new and put over 300 thousand miles on it before it finally gave up.

being in a smash shop parts have been quite easy to get (body mostly) for the ones we have done, cant say on pricing as the office deals with that :) people say they are hard to get parts for, we have had a 08 nissan navara sitting in the shed for over 3 months now because no one could supply a inner skirt.. Mazda cx7's and 9's are a nightmare to get bars for and can take 4 to 6 weeks to get... my point is there can be issues with ANY manufacturer getting parts..

drive it.. if she likes it buy it...

steff.......

Cheers mate, mentioned yours too. Maybe we need to put her in one or two Volksies (or derivitives) to swing her.....might be easier to relocate Uluru

mmmm thanks Carl, certainly a nice idea, just the 6 figure price tag might be the biggest hurdle.......

Joined Aussiefrogs, the Oz French car forum..... so far, transmission and electrics with a harsh ride....think a ride in Bobs Skoda may be on the cards.

Matt

My wife has had a 207 for about the last 18 months and she loves it. We bought it second-hand, its a late 2007/2008 model and we've done about 15000 kms in it. Has about 75k on it now.

It's an auto with the 1.6L engine, I think the smaller one is 1.4L. Believe it is the same motor as in the new Mini (?), has gone away from the timing belt. Only issue we've had reliability-wise was the electronic thermostat packed it in - apparently not a common failure but not unheard of. Otherwise it is generally-speaking a well built car, nice and tight with no rattles. The only thing that is cheap and nasty is the plastic paint on the electric window switches, it's peeling off. We've just peeled it all off so it looks OK now.

I've got no idea what it's like to work on, I just check the oil/water and take it to the French Car mechanics at East Brisbane every 10000 kms.

Rides and handles well, typical 'euro-firm' which you either like or not. We've just bought two new tyres, and they were a funny size, 55 series profile so had to be ordered in. Use premium fuel like most euro cars, good fuel efficiency.

Four in our family, two teenage daughters (15 and 17) so essentially all adults and we all fit comfortably. I'm surprised how ell it goes with all four of us on board. I'm 6'2" and 100kg and fit fine. Size-wise it seems to slot in between a Golf/Corolla/308 and a Polo/Yaris/206. The 206 was the car it replaced, friends of ours have had one of those since new and swear by it.

Don't know if that helps, but over-all we've been quite happy with it. Is likely to stay in the family for a while as we'll probably pass it on to the kids to share for Uni when we buy another car.
