1916baja ·

Is anyone here using vp c16 race fuel? I'm just taking a step back and looking into other fuels available without going to the extent of methanol... I was unaware of the major mods needed on the holley in order to run meth and I noticed most of the turbo guys in the states run c16 and highly recommend it...
Mick.

whathaveidone ·

At the moment im using Sonoco MAX NOS. Ill tell you how it goes if i ever get to have a run with it. Its 120 octain. I did get some info on a new fuel on sat. When i get home ill send you website link. Cant.you buy holly carbs new already setup for meth???

1916baja ·

Yeah I know but I already have one for gas and I'd rather use it... That info would be helpful! Cheers.

dangerous ·

You do realize that C16 is over $200 for 20 lt?!

Makes a new carb look cheap before long!!

SuperOwen ·

There's lots of other fuels part from c16 that may have enough octane for your requirements. what sort of power boost comp etc are you looking at? Petrol does make life so much easier than methanol maintenance wise.

Wowsers! I was going to get Dave to get me a price from performance wholesale this week... I didn't know it was that much! What about e85?? I know Aaron runs it in his kombi but how about in an air cooled motor?? What do you pay for Sunoco Ben??

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

E85 is high maintainence as well. If you have it in a daily driver it's ok but if the car sits for periods of time then corrosion occurs. Doesn't seem to like carbs from what I have read and been told. I've seen what it did to a sti circuit car's tank and fuel lines and it ain't pretty!

Troy made pretty much the same power as Davo on pump 98 with about the same boost and lower comp when the engine was in the type 3.

ian.mezz ·

vp 16 only $228 😊
or
you could shoot the guys at http://www.powerplusfuel.com.au/
an email with your compression ratio and they can recommend a race fuel about $120 for 20lt.

whathaveidone ·

Hold on to your hat mick!!!!!! My drum was just under $400 for a 20 ltr drum

1916baja ·

whathaveidone wrote:Hold on to your hat mick!!!!!! My drum was just under $400 for a 20 ltr drum
Wow! Hey hey! Forget that! I'm gonna look into e85 a bit more I think... With the cherry lube additive the corrosion should be kept to a minimum.... Just need to look at how it will run through a carb.

ian.mezz ·

give powerplus a call, they know their stuff,
we have had good results with 102
they do sell e85.
.
http://www.powerplusfuel.com.au/racing-fuels.php
.
Powerplus E85 is manufactured from a renewable fuel source that is also environmentally friendly. Its performance is comparable to 116 octane race fuel. Your engine will run cooler and your ET’s will be less affected by atmospheric changes.

Powerplus E85 is not corrosive like methanol it includes all the anticorrosive's and lubricants found in powerplus 98+ and does not leave carbon deposits like petrol so maintenance is reduced across the
board, your spark plugs and oil stays looking like new.

fish26 ·

Most of the E85 associated problems seem to be undetermined.

I run it in a Volvo 850 T5 on petrol tune with 40% bigger injectors and 14psi boost otherwise stock car. The heads upon inspection looked super clean.

There are a few people in the states and Europe that I've had contact with that run E85 in their street/strip VWs without any problems whatsoever, cheap, more HP, lower temps, efficient burn and the ability to raise c/r. All positive attributes AFAIC.

I have a set of 45 DRLA set up for E85 that are waiting for the 11:1 1300 FK87 mouse

Sides ·

Quite a few people I know thru hillclimb converting across to E85.

All are EFI water pumpers, and only changes they've made have been richening the maps and adding some timing. Most are claiming more power and lower head temps, but so far haven't been seeing lots of times falling ???

Same sort of thing happened when the V8 SuperTaxi's converted across.

2 guys I know of are in process of upping their CR's as the second step, so guess will see what happens then...

typethreeking ·

Talk to Aaron about it, he purchased from a different place and thinks maybe consistence could be a issue between suppliers so tuning could be required after each purchase, that's not the only time I've heard that. Methanol is easier with a larger room for error when it comes to tuning

whathaveidone ·

Even with powerplus fuels anything over 95octain needs teflon lines. that is the company i was talking about mick. They have had problems with corrosion!!!!! at a $1p/l irs the best way to go. alot of people are using it with carbs. ide look into that more if i was you. best bang for buck!!!!! Like someone said previously, the cost for your carby setup will be ofset very quickly by the cost of the meth!!!!

westi ·

methanol,
🙄 all e- 85's are corrosive,

so why not put it on the meth.once most people have had meth they usually have troubles getting back off it,so it must be good.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
you should get on the meth too benny ,as what every your smoking at $400 a drum ,ain't workin all that great.

Huh? Did you mean "it's" the best way to go?? If so what are you referring to?? Meth??

FROSTY ·

Hey Mick, That's getting way to complicated.... I'm sticking to pump gas... Unless I win the lotto..lol

typethreeking ·

Just use methanol

typethreeking ·

Crystal meth is good too, don't need much but pretty expensive😂

whathaveidone ·

Yeah methanol is the way to go.think im gunna switch with my new motor.
Hey brad, dont know if its working yet. havent had a run!!!!!!! Bloody rain.
When you comming out??????tnt on the 27th????

1916baja ·

FROSTY wrote:Hey Mick, That's getting way to complicated.... I'm sticking to pump gas... Unless I win the lotto..lol
That's the problem though frosty, if I really wanna make use of the power available from this engine, pump gas ain't gonna cut it.... Say for instance I'm looking at 8.5:1 or 9:1 comp and 15 psi boost??? I can't see that happening on pump gas. I mean if I'm looking at it all wrong and pump gas is an option someone please tell me! I am not running cooling tin either so I like the idea if a fuel with cooling properties...

SuperOwen ·

Anyone tried any additives with pump gas, toluene etc?

typethreeking ·

I ran 16.5psi boost on bp98 octane, comp was 7.7 with no probs at all so I think you'll be ok

1916baja ·

Hmmm, that's food for thought Troy. I'll have to dig up your old build thread on here if there is one...

typethreeking ·

With higher comp you just might have to drop some timing, I was planning for 20psi but injectors maxed out

1916baja ·

The programmable timing setup I plan on using might help...

Sides ·

Isn't there some saying about Petrol being good for washing parts, Alcohol is meant for drinking, and Nitro is for going racing ???

😂

Whaddayareckon Mick... worlds first Top Fuel Bug ???

we just have normal black rubber fuel hose and run powerplus 😊

ian.mezz ·

.

eg

Powerplus 102+ Unleaded Racing Fuel is specifically engineered for normally aspirated and Turbo - Super Charged engines. Compression Ratios from 8:1 to 14:1. It is formulated with power enhancing oxygenates, to help engine builders and race teams push their engines to the limit when competing in events where maximum power and torque is required. Suitable for engines developing up to 650+ Horse Power.

whathaveidone ·

Im just going off what the rep told us on sat Ian. Ill double check on friday when i get home.

typethreeking ·

Octane rating for methanol looks like around -110-115

ian.mezz ·

whathaveidone wrote:Im just going off what the rep told us on sat Ian. Ill double check on friday when i get home.
yeah the stuff they make black rubber hoses out of these days is good stuff 😊

1916baja ·

I think the 105,108,110 and methanol require the teflon hoses guys.... The 102 does not.

typethreeking ·

Either way mick I'm running to tunes in my car, race on methanol and a petrol tune to flush the system

Stanley ·

I used to be able to get hold of avgas from work but no more....avtur anyone

matberry ·

Well put in telon hoses. Bugger all difference when using braided lines. I use teflon on all the efi engines as it is better for stable pressures at the injectors and the higher pressures used.

1916baja ·

Yeah, i'll be using the good hose and fittings for the system regardless.... Im just looking around as to what fuel is available to run. I think this is a good thread, There has been alot of info bought up here that i havent managed to find on here before. I have emailed powerplus race fuels to see what they reccomend and how much it is.

And Troy, it'd be nice to have efi! unfortunatly 2 seperate tunes on a holley just aint that easy! 😬

typethreeking ·

Could always just drain your tank and drain the fuel bowl and flush with petrol... Lol

modnrod ·

typethreeking wrote:Could always just drain your tank and drain the fuel bowl and flush with petrol... Lol
That's not a bad idea.

I've seen guys in the pits pull off the $1000 JET 830 annular methanol after a trailer pass, plonk on a Holley500 with adaptor, feed it 100octane out of a fuel jug slung off a bonnet hook, then idle the car for a couple of minutes before shutdown for the meet.

After that it's just rinsing then blowing out the lines/tank at home later.

westi ·

coming out soon,hopefully.
just got my new valve springs,so just need to find some time to put it back together,
i kinda got jammed by jambo as always, everyone wants there cars finished,so the poor old junka cops second fiddle as always.
i have fuel at 102 oct,but it's realy only for streeters.and e85 is good, but regaurdless of what you hear or read it is corrosive,so meth is the best, you can buy a couple of different kinds of meth.n1 is the same amount of work as the e-85.
coogee is alittle more matainence but worth it because it is so sooo cheap.
use what ever suits your budget.

humpty ·

No cooling on Micks new engine though Troy. I have the same problem with my new combo.... I reckon meth will be in my future too.... But by all means keep this chat rolling.... I need more info and convincing too.

lol TC Humpty

whathaveidone ·

Just keeping it alive

Hahahahhahahaa.... We aim to please Mick!

dragvw2180 ·

I know how expensive c16 is , I pay $ 17.50 a gallon here locally but really my car does not use much per pass. I do not have cooling tin and drive it back to the pits after each pass usually get about two to three passes per gallon.
If you go with alcohol make sure your complete fuel system is compatable and will not corrode or dissolve , been there and done that. Mike McCarthy
P.S. I let a friend get his first passes in my turbo car at our race at Piedmont , after he had problems I made one pass to make sure it wasn't the car , darn that felt good !!! I am the fat man with sunglasses hahahha

1916baja ·

I have decided to go with pp105 race fuel, it suits my budget at the moment and down the track I can convert to meth if I want to experiment more. Thanks.

20bkombi ·

Good choice Mick.
Suits your budget and much less time needed to maintain.

whathaveidone ·

Have been doing a bit of reading this weekend and am looking into VP ROO16. Just the same as VP16 but oxigenated to makd it a more stable burn. better for boosted engines!!! Am going to contact the local rep and have a chat

Be good for your "boosted" engine then aye Ben! Let us know how you get on...

whathaveidone ·

😂

whathaveidone ·

I ment for yours!!!!🥷

1916baja ·

Hmmm yeah ok...

Stanley ·

Maybe it is boosted Mick....rumour has it

1916baja ·

I've seen the specs.... 😏

RodPenrose ·

Ben , the last price I got on the Roo 16 was $ 720 for 20 L . Than there is the good stuff Roo 25 , don't ask , ROD.

whathaveidone ·

SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe stick to the maxnos!!!!! Thats a crazy price.from what ive read its the same. I thought it would be a bit cheaper.

Stanley ·

Jesus....are there any typos there Rod.

SuperOwen ·

I think the prices may have come down a lot, check this site out.

In my opinion you can't beat the consistency, at the track and dyno of methanol.
The disadvantages are that you will need the fuel system to deliver enough volume,(both supply and mixture),
and that the system also requires routine cleaning.
It should also be noted that it is a poison and also, like toast, fried foods and numerous other products is a carcenogin (sp?).

I think if there was a reason I could not use methanol,
I would be making the neccesary changes needed to run on 98 pump fuel.
Top up the tank when you fuel the tow car!
