Hi

This will be cool. Do you know what happened to Rick Thorley? You said Thornley Bros, is that the same guy?

Rick used to work at our local council.

Imagine how fast it would be with todays tyre technology, it smoked half the track, Pete you must carry your nuts around in wheel barrow😂

X2

GooNoo2180 ·

naa steve theere not that big , you can still get 4" slicks ,we dont want it to go all that fast , resonably fast, lots a noise an plenty of tyre smoke , with todays tyres n track prep, it 'll break the driveline, an wont be a good show

FROSTY ·

Is there any good photos anywhere???

dragvw2180 ·

Thats absolutely bad to the bone !!!! Now that will be a crowd pleaser . Mike McCarthy

Owesome
I saw Joe Cook's bike in the last 60's or early 70's a Ravenswood drag's when I was a wee tacker.
It was the fastest bike in Aussie, it only ran 9's is I recall ,but then it was crazy fast and a site to watch.
There was a bike like for sale about 15 years ago
it maybe still around , have a talk to some of the old racers

Hey Pete, are you going to show the modern world how we used to start the drag bikes as well? (before Starter motors) - not too sure if ANDRA would approve

OZ Towdster ·

GooNoo2180 ·

YAY!!!!
Real nostalgia dragbike stuff!
(Excuse the outburst, love the old bikes).

Very best wishes for the build. Jeez, that's something I WOULD travel to the other side of the world to see (or East, same as).
Good onya.
🙅

matberry ·

Unreal stuff !!!

I know where some S/P heads are that were from one of the blown Nitro bike engines, maybe you want ???

1916baja ·

You guys are mad.

GooNoo2180 ·

yep been called most of those names ,........thanks Matt we'll go with some big valve twin ports , lota good stuff avaliable now compared to 1974 , got a guy starting on the frame in few weeks , so will put some pics up soon as there's progress

modnrod ·

Bloody lovely! 😀
I've raced drag bikes for a bit now, and always wanted to combine dak-daks and bikes, but knew it probably wouldn't happen.
Very very cool to see you back at it again.

Are you going to use offset Crower-style box and sliders, straight direct drive sliders, one of the new funny-bike trannies?

ocdrbug ·

Will be interesting to see, i'm interested in what drive setup your going to use. Theres a lot of things about vw dragbikes that andra don't like but what the hell 🤪. An old friend of mine (Ronnie Scholes) still has one hangin in the rafters of his shed from memory. I remember watching some of you guys back home in Sydney back in the 60's & 70's before i got involved in Dragbike racing. These days i'm more involved in the new school style bikes ( Outlaw Sportsbikes ) but still have a soft spot for blown or inj vw db's. 😎

vw54 ·

Pete

your a really nice guy but MAD and bigger balls than me

I used to see Rick Thornley in my street about 20 plus years ago he had a mate that lived here I thought he was doing the steering towards the end

SO what the progress of the project

turboboy ·

http://www.brackettracing.com/new_page_19.htm

GooNoo2180 ·

thanks Dave your too kind ,Sam rode the bike for a long time , ,in early eighty's a guy the name of Peter Osterio rode it with a blower just before Castlrreagh closed ,

then faras i know was parked for long time then sold , i did some ringin around in Syd last week , an the bike is still in Syd an is for sale , going to arrange a time to look an talk ,

i want to keep it as old skool as posible , but as you know gota meet current ANDRA tech..not good pic of Thornley's , but the best i can do

vw54 ·

Ive stolen these pics of that link
