Saturday June 29th is our new date to go racing at Sydney. The programme remains largely the same, although with the event now in the middle of winter, some adjustments to the racing programme may happen to allow racing on the track at the optimum warmer hours.
All paperwork and money is rolled over to the new date, and you only have to email me with changes to crew or car before June 21st.
The website is now open and accepting new entries. I know there were a few drag racers who could not attend the old February date, so now is your chance to get back to the track. New entries close June 21st. I'd like to think it possible we could hit the magic 100 mark, which is easily achievable if all the VW drag cars in the country came out to play. So if you know of any hiding in places such as, I don't know, Orange or Tamworth or Logan, that haven't made the list yet, please give them a polite rev and remind them of what it means to have their own drag racing series.
For new entrants not familiar with the procedure for the day, your tickets and racing information will be waiting for you at the track. All you need to do is turn up when the gates open and you will be directed inside to the pit area where I will need you to make your way over to the VWMA tent to collect all your gear and any final information.
At the Nationals you would have already seen Wayne Penrose's new dragster import from the States. This along with another couple of new cars will certainly spice up the competition.
The series also welcomes on board Hyper Race Fuels. Lou Guevara, a VW circuit and drag racer, has recently started this business which offers a range of blended race fuels ranging from 100 RON to 130 RON as well as Methanol. Lou will be at Sydney to talk with everyone about the new venture.
The Pizza Cruise is on again on Friday night, so please make this another must do over your racing weekend. The track is helping with this cruise by making the closing time for the gates on Friday night later to allow teams staying at the track to attend.
That is good news that the schedule will be slightly changed to keep us all safe from the track going cold.
This was a big concern to me, especially considering how much the track changed last year after the cruise/parade.
You just have to think if every VW dropped just a couple of drips of oil on the lap up, and back, during the parade,
it would equate to a nice oil slick of probably a couple of litres...right before the finals.
I am looking forward to this event! Only a few weeks to go!
vassy66T1 ·
I am looking forward to thsi.
Maybe the cruise after the finals? (insert "sticking neck out" emoticon here 🙂 )
humpty ·
Sad I can't make this one.... But looking forward to the reviews and results.... Thanks Craig for getting it all back together.

VWMA Editor ·
Sticking neck out? Doesn't apply to you Marcus. All good.
The cruise after the finals is a good suggestion and more likely to happen in June with the finals running earlier.
The cooler weather will at least make all the bitumen less ferocious in the pits during the middle of the day, although staying at the track may require an extra blanket or two....

Hi All,
If you were woken by screams and gnashing of teeth this morning, that was probably me being dragged further into social media. No, not FarceBook, but a twitter account.
Now before you all get too excited, it will come as a disappointment to most to learn that I will not be tweeting on a daily basis about what I had for breakfast, how the guinea pigs are going, or what my coffee tastes like (I can hear a collective sigh of relief).
The account is strictly for the VWMA events, more specifically to use as a way of mass communicating changes to the event during the week or two beforehand. This was brought about by the February postponement - a tweet is quick and accessible to all.
Of course I understand if you do not want to be a part of a world where Shane Warne tells you how much his face lift is sagging or Richard Branson tweeting about the new pool he has just filled with gold bullion, but it will make it easier for me to send out important last minute bulletins rather than just relying on phone, email or forum updates.
The account is Mr Ed@EdVWMA
I have posted a test tweet today (no, it was not about what toothpaste I used this morning....)
Cheers
Craig
matberry ·
I hope you checked how many entrants actually have a Twitter account. I know my phone doesn't even do it so let me be the first to say, if there is any last minute changes, please call.
dangerous ·
...and here was me trying to find a twitter on the internet.
I'll let you know if I find out what one of those is. 😊
Two weeks until the VWMA Showdown Drags at Sydney on June 29th.
New entries must be in by this Friday the 21st June. Entries from February are rolled over to the new date. Late entries will be accepted at the gate, but the price is $130 and extra crew must pay the normal gate price of $20 per adult. It pays to get in by the close off date. Pass the word around to those considering competing, but have not done the paperwork. Hop online - www.vwma.net.au - to register.
I have received some notification by drivers of changes, so if things have changed since February to the car or crew, please email me asap.
The Flat 4 Club of Sydney will be running the Show'n'Shine and I am eternally grateful for their support as this helps with the running of the day.
Other than that, all is progressing well, and I Iook forward to seeing one of the biggest and best field of VW drag racers do battle on the 1/4 mile.
Following you both now... @benny_acko
Hoping to make it there to watch you all.
Goodluck with all your preparations
bug68m ·
hi do they also have a swap meet and trade stands at the show and shine
dangerous ·
Well, only a week or so till we all head off to Sydney!
It seems like everyone is still working and planning with engine and dyno work all over the country! 👍
Getting pretty excited!!! 👍

Hi All,
Pre-paid entries are now closed for the VW Showdown this Saturday 29th June. Late entries will be accepted at the gate ($130 driver, crew $20 per person).
If you are arriving on Friday I can be found at the track for you to collect your tickets and other information. I will be at the track until approximately 6pm, at which time I will be heading off to the Pizza cruise. At Dino's Pizza I will still be able to issue the pre-paid tickets, so you can catch me there if you missed me at the track. Failing that you will need to collect them from the front gate on Saturday morning. Your ticket is needed at scrutineering - no ticket, no racing. Simples!!
92 cars have entered for the day with another batch of new cars and fresh faces. The cutoff for the Top VW Shootout is 11 seconds flat - a challenging, but achievable bench mark for the quicker cars.
The programme is the same as February, but we'll bring everything forward by an hour to conduct all the racing before nightfall. The twilight cruise will be after the finals.
Other than that, have a safe trip and see you on the track.
Wish I was going guys. I'll be there next year. Have a good and safe time!

WISD VWMA Drags Friday 28th June Night Cruise upto Dino's Pizza
Hi all,
It's on again Pizza Cruise to Dino's Pizza
We are starting at the ShelI servo on the Great Western Highway Eastern Creek (corner of the road out from WSID ) meeting around 6pm & departing about 20 mins later, cruising up the highway , left onto wallgrove road , right onto the M4, then up to Mulgoa rd exit, off to the left & into Glenmore Park Town Centre.
There is plenty of parking on the paved court yard.
If you want any further info, just post on here & it will be answered..
Hey All, due to the Pizza shop being extremely busy between 6pm and 8pm due to Friday night Football, I'm thinking we may detour the cruise to the Penrith Slot car track for about an hour where they have a Drag track as well a couple of circuit tracks we can use, cost to use tracks and cars is about $8 per hour, if you have your own Slot Cars you are more than welcome to bring them along. I hope this suits all in attendance..
Cheer Dino
Any queries please call me on 0416008524

Please note:Glenmore Park Town Centre is an alcohol free zone and no Alcohol is to be consumed outside of the Pizza shop..

Hi all, i have had two meetings with track management today and they are still satisfied that the weather will be okay to run the event. They got the call right in february, so i'm confident they will make the right call again .
However, should there be any changes to the event i'll be in contact through a myriad of social media devices (so don't phone me unless you wish to inform me that you're sharing your gold lotto win🙂.
See you on the track.
Cheers

Hi
Bad luck about today, I hope everyone gets home safe and sound.
I listen to a lot of talk back radio while I'm at work or in the garage.
A Kiwi by the name of Ken Ring, predicted this weather event last year in his weather almanac. The moon pays a huge part in weather and it was very close to earth recently.

Unfortunately Ken and all the weather stations for the last week have been saying 80% to 90% chance of rain all day !
Sooner or later we are going to have to start listening to them.
Hope everyone from interstate gets home safe.

Bad luck. Feel for you Craig. What are the odds of picking 2 abnormally wet weekends. Must be devastating.
sauron ·
Got back home just after midnight, shit drive home, absolutely pissing down on the M7 windows fogging up due to everthing wet in the van. Then heavy rain till Yass, and then thick fog from Glenrowen to Melbourne 80kms an hour dangerous as anything. And yes it's sunny in Melbourne.😂
Chin up Craig, feel for you, Roll on Warwick.
Michael

Just wanted to say to Craig, thanks for all your hard work mate. Was gonna bring my 2 boys out to watch and we were all bummed that it was rained out. And as someone who runs outdoor events regularly, and has been spectacularly rained out, just keep at it mate. We're right behind you and the weather will come good eventually. 👍

mmmm what a trip for Pizza.... thanks Dino, Pizza's were great.
Home just now after a 2400km road trip and no bloody track time. Oh well, thanks for trying Craig and all those that travelled to the track anyway. We had a pretty wet but uneventful cruise down and back to WSID. Friday night was our highlight.....Ben, Morgs, Bilby, Tony and I had a few sherbets that we enjoyed once back from Dino's Pizza Joint. I took a few pics that I'll share once I unload the Kombi 🙂

My few pics, hardly worthy but considering we had a non-event, it's the best I got 🙂
Day 2 morning at Johns River Crossing, about 23 k's north of Taree.......rain when we parked, rain during the night and rain in the morning. Not a good sign !
The cool Garage at Johns River Crossing. est. 1895
Arrival at WSID. First in line after a 1200 km journey......it had bucketed down only 3 k's from the track, this is the last dry tarmac we saw for the weekend. 🙁
Before we could get into the pit area a few other arrived
and one for Morgan .... the things we do for entertainment in the wee hours. ......... still raining 😉

Damn shame about the weather but shit happens. Still, looking at the positives got to meet up with those who braved the conditions (or were hoping for a miracle like me).
I had my Wife and daughter with me so trip was good family bonding plus she got to spend almost 24hrs with her rellies.
Got to test out the tow car (Mitsy Outlander, FWD, 2.4lt) and it exceeded expectations. Around 11lts/100 kms.
Also tested out my trailer which towed well, however I’m going to add a deflector on the front. Car looked like an offroad buggy by the time a got home with all the mud kicked up plus a few stone chips.

I received this email from Craig 4/07/13
Hi All,
Mmm - the less said about last weekend the better. Although, I must thank all, especially those with the same eternal optimism who arrived at the track, for the continuing support. Although at this very moment the thoughts of drag racing are less than attractive, there will be a Sydney 2014, and the date will be announced in the next month or so.
Now down to business. I have three options I would to offer pre-paid Sydney competitors:
Option1: If you are planning to run at Warwick on October 5-6th, I will credit your entry fee from Sydney towards Warwick and the shortfall can be made on the day at the track (Warwick is $160 for two days).
Option 2: If you are prepared to wait for Sydney 2014, entry fees and paperwork will be rolled over to the new date.
Option 3: If you would like a refund for Sydney please provide bank details for a full refund. You will, however, obviously have to re-do all paperwork for the event next year.
Whichever option you choose, please email me asap, and I will make the necessary arrangements. With a deadline for the next issue upon me, please allow till the end of this month (July) for all refunds and emails to be replied to. I thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
