Please tell me your putting these on a car to keep it a historically accurate restoration. Putting them on anything else is just plain stupid, unless you happen to be a neo nazi..

ibmoknegawsklov ·

Looks great ! Ignore the anti Nazi comments, swastikas mean far more than that.

Old Hutcho ·

What do they mean??

Old Hutcho

You'll see em' all over Buddhist temples the other way round 🙂 👍

I've never even realised that they're supposed to be a swastika. Since they're round I've never even noticed... I just think they look awesome, who cares what idiots think

lohoon ·

KDF flying cog emblem . Not swastika.

SuperOwen wrote:Putting them on anything else is just plain stupid, unless you happen to be a neo nazi..
Wouldn't that be a retro Nazi?

sikras ·

Thanx 4 d help ppl. I didn't think it would a fend any1 cause I thought that's what they were called

I have to defend my comment for being ANTI nazi now????
If you want to drive around with four swastika's on your car go for it.

And the tiled floor of Brisbane's historic city hall building. These have been round long before the nazis.

Swastickas have outer extremities that go in different directions. These all flow the same way. Not the same thing.

the thing is what hes talking about arent swastika’s, but the kdf flying hub caps as already established.

helbus ·

The 45 degree black swastika on a white disc with a red background is Nazi. All other variations or similaritaries are irrelevant

Oh Dear Owen, so wrong, please comment once qualified to do so.

SuperOwen ·

So any similarity these have to a nazi swastika is purely coincidental? From a design for a german car produced under the third reich government???? The original poster obviously thought they were similar from his post title....

I'm not unaware that swastikas weren't invented by the nazi's and that this is a highly stylised version of it, but don't try kid me these hubcaps are simply using some buddhist symbol of whatever of it is.

Each to their own..... 😀

Seriously, no offence intended, but you are full of shit.

AA003 ·

Why is everyone getting upset about swastikas? It's history ffs.

If it wasn't for the Nazi party we wouldn't have Volkswagens.

newghia ·

ANYWAY......as per the link, you can get them on the samba.......... I like them !

They are the flying cog, it was part of vw's branding back in the day, not a swastika......I like stickers !😂

helbus ·

Here is a question or two for the historians.

The 'Flying cog' symbol with VW in the middle of it, as shown above.

Was it ever stamped on a production KDF wagen or war vehicle anywhere?

Was the Volkswagen name or VW symbol used by Nazi Germany during production of the KDF wagen or war vehicle?

So to clarify my post, i have a beetle which has 1 of these hub caps damaged. So i googled beetle hub caps in images. I searched through all d images until i found the pic above and it was called flying swastica hub caps, hence my post title.
However now i've learnt it is called a KDF flying cog emblem.

lohoon ·

The cog symbol was used on some pre 50s parts. Rear spring plate covers were one place they were stamped. The side on the air filter was another. I'm no expert on the matter, just observant I guess. I have a gas cap on my 55 that has the cog symbol on it. Anyone know of any more?

farkengruven ·

Pics help a lot.
So does the gas cap have the cog on it, or is it just the later replacement cap with the coarse grip on it?

AA003 ·

sikras wrote:However now i've learnt it is called a KDF flying cog emblem.
That's the PC name for them.

(It's really a swastika)😂

68BUS ·

I wonder if these guys had them fitted?

And yes I know before I get told off that the KDF hubcaps were not Swastica's and the swastica was not a symbol of the Nazi. This bus is a bunch of Buddist Monks obviously......

AA003 ·

68BUS wrote:This bus is a bunch of Buddist Monks obviously......
Yes, you can tell by the flying KDF symbols on their arm bands.😂

lohoon ·

Is that a shot from the blues brothers?

Isola ·

That's post war and not even in Germany. Neo-Nazi's have always used the swastika with the 1930s meaning attached to it (and yes the most well known meaning) but if it was 1910 theu may well have been monks :p

bajachris88 ·

haha, the hate bus is like the 'brutus' of the type 2 😀

SuperOwen ·

I'll agree to disagree on the swastika part, in the context it's clearly a stylized nazi swastika in my eyes.
Here's a tidbit of history, the cog is most probably derived from the emblem for the DAF, or german labor front, the organisation which replaced the trade unions after hitlers rise to power.

Nothing wrong with VW having a bit of nazi history, but I was just questioning whether you want to slap it all over our cars. There may be a reason why they didn't continue to use that emblem! 🤓

Paint some hippie flowers on your hubcaps, that's a much more positive image 😂 Or go the full hog with the hate bus look, albiet slammed..

AA003 ·

What about a flying Buddhist monks emblem?

68BUS ·

AA003 wrote:What about a flying Buddhist monks emblem?
I would avoid that if you can. The flying monk thing is very much out of favor at the moment.

I wonder what the hubcaps were on the plane?

bajachris88 ·

AA003 wrote:I wonder what the hubcaps were on the plane?
Probably a set of contraversial moon discs, with the old country women's association complaining about the resemblance to royal doulton stainless steel series cookware. 😂

AA003 ·

68BUS ·

Damn tootin it does.

I tend to agree with Owen. Though the caps may not relate to the Nazi symbol I think there are people that would associate them with it. Owen made the point in case of potential damage to your car or people making sly remarks. I liked the look of them too but decided against them after showing a few friends and the comments were all negative.
