hypo-vw ·

As some of you are aware already , I have purchased myself another toy from Florida USA , a VW Dragster with a turbocharged type-1 engine & Autocraft 4-speed transmission .
I will share with you some pics & history about the dragster , along with the progress in development & our goals .
I purchased the dragster in December 2012 and it arrived at WPVW in early May 2013 .
The dragster was purchased from Warren Hill in Florida (off the Samba website) and Warren has been very helpful in assisting me getting the dragster here to Australia . Warren has given me this brief history of the dragster .....

the original owner of the dragster was David Grayson. David Grayson had the dragster built for him by Bill Rathbun and he ran it for several years up and down the East Coast , then it was sold to Darrell Gordon of Ohio which he keep it for about two years , then sold it to Steve Shook of Texas . Steve ran the dragster for about three years and retired , then the dragster was sold to Pat Fox in Louisiana which he had for about a year and decided that he wanted a sedan , so Pat and Warren made a deal for his sedan , and then the dragster came to me .

The dragster is now in Australia & part of Team WPVW

hypo-vw ·

the dragster was shipped from Florida to California , then to Sydney

hypo-vw ·

after picking up the dragster , we lifted it on one of our hoists for a thorough inspection . The chassis looks perfect , the body great , changed the oils in the engine and transmission , replaced the stripped crank pulley bolt , tightened various other loose bolts , replaced 1 pushrod , adjusted the tappets , repaired stripped exhaust threads , charged the battery , filled with fuel (102 ulp) , by-passed original fuel pump as it would not work , installed a Holley Blue fuel pump and fired-up the engine .
Sounds Ok , but heads are leaking ....

hypo-vw ·

the exhaust outlet pipe from the turbo & the wastegate pipe are both removed to be modified & plumbed together . The exhaust outlet is also fitted with a crucifix as per ANDRA requirements
The body panels are all removed for preparation & paint

hypo-vw ·

Wilwood inboard disc brakes at the rear on live axle , reduction drive starter , chassis-shop bellhousing extension , butterfly steering wheel , vertical gate in-line shifter , custom race pedals

hypo-vw ·

very light rack & pinion steering . We found that the left king-pin had seized so we disassembled , cleaned & lubed it .
Phil @ signtism designed our new graphics and shows us how it will look ....
I also remove the left side plate from the wing assembly so that we can push out 2 very large dents that were at the rear

hypo-vw ·

the body panels are all painted in black as a base for our graphics , then Phil applys all of the graphics for us

hypo-vw ·

the original Demon carburettor that was running on pump fuel has been replaced with the 675cfm methanol Demon from Ben Fords' supercharged drag bug as Ben is upgrading to injection . A new stainless steel scoop is purchased for the carburettor

Our new dragster is then taken to the VW Nationals car show 2013 to be unveiled

hypo-vw ·

on display at the 2013 VW Nationals show

hypo-vw ·

back at WPVW and with the VW Nationals show over , Dean starts to disassemble the engine accessories in preparation for engine removal & rebuild before the VW drags on June 29 @ WSID .

Cool purchase Wayne.
What times had it run in the USA?

hypo-vw ·

thanks Dave , nothing impressive in times that I am aware of ..... I only have the timeslips from Warren & he consistantly ran 6.1@115mph (1/8 mile) on pump fuel & 8psi boost ..... approx 220hp
I see great potential for this car with my big Type-4 turbo engine installed and 500+ hp

FROSTY ·

Very very cool Wayne, can't wait to see you run!!!!

whathaveidone ·

SWEEEEEEET👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Should have painted it orange again but😂😂😂😂

1916baja ·

What do you mean by, a deal was made for your sedan?

hypo-vw ·

1916baja wrote:What do you mean by, a deal was made for your sedan?
sorry Dave , the 1st post has been edited to be a bit clearer . I had just posted what Warren had sent to me 😂😂
PS: like F#*k is the oval going anywhere !! Its going to go a LOT faster before I am finished with it ....

typethreeking ·

Sweet Wayne, you running it at Sydney?

..king Oath dude. Good news

1916baja ·

Good news! Cool car!

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

Awesome Wayne!! You guys at WPVW are accumulating a lot of toys!! You might have to start hiring drivers lol

hypo-vw ·

typethreeking wrote:Sweet Wayne, you running it at Sydney?
yes Troy , the plan is to run the dragster at Sydney with the smaller type-1 engine and get a feel for the car . No records will be set at this event by me , and I am very confident that both Chris Bolton & Ben Ford will be quicker than me with their new engine combinations .
Dean is at the shop now pulling the turbo from the engine in preparation for engine removal and rebuild 👍👍

typethreeking ·

👍👍

tar76 ·

😵 Killa!

Stanley ·

Looks great Wayne...it will be great to see this run in Sydney. Will certainly be fun to drive.

humpty ·

What a cool 'new' car.... I'm sure the WPVW team will make very good uses of this lil' beastie!

andrewmurphy ·

Very nice!!!

hypo-vw ·

Dean has removed the turbo and all associated plumbing , all wiring & oil hoses . The engine is now ready for removal , but I have decided to leave it sit in the car until I have finished Chris Bolton & Ben Ford' engines .

I have also got to fabricate an engine nappy for the dragster so it will be easier without all of the accessories on it .

The new tyres have all arrived ..... fronts are the same size , however I have had some very good advice and gone 1.5" wider on the rear (thanks Henry)

20bkombi ·

Man you got some big balls!! That will be an awesome ride with you're engine!!

You'll have every ones attention on the start line.

Way to go Wayne and crew.

Hi Wayne,
What is the wheelbase of the dragster?

fish26 ·

Aaaawwww........psycho

hypo-vw ·

nasty wrote:Hi Wayne,

Hi Michael , congrats on your efforts and the new record mate . The WPVW dragster has a 180" (4.57m) wheelbase .

hypo-vw ·

last night the engine was removed from the dragster in preparation for stripping & refreshen.

We were very surprised to find such large CNC ported heads after removing the tiny plenums

Hello pot this is kettle!! Lol

700+hp in a bus requires gonads the size of basketballs!!!! Hats off to both of you!!

Wayne are you planning on remaking the plenums?

hypo-vw ·

Wayne are you planning on remaking the plenums?
Yes Brendan I am , but not before Sydney VW drags . I just dont have the time as I still have to strip & refeshen this engine , reassemble Chris Boltons transmission , install & tune Chris Boltons new engine with the new methanol 750dp Holley , assemble Ben Ford' engine , install & tune Bens engine with new methanol EFI , assemble the engine for the WPVW sports sedan & service the carbs , and we need to spend a little time on Cindys rat-bug to tune the new injection system , I also have to fit the new tyres & harness to the dragster & I am currently getting a nappy made for the engine ..... besides all of this I dont think that I should make too many imrovements on the type-1 engine in the dragster till I purchase a new alloy 10mm stud engine case . The existing case is an old mag case with 8mm studs .

andrewmurphy ·

And that is before breakfast

adding to my list of things to do ....... Chris bolton has been here every night dismantling & cleaning parts , assembling his turbo system & fabricating brackets , Ben Ford has been here every night wiring & plumbing his injection , dismantled the engine for the WPVW sports sedan , dismantling the engine for my dragster , preparing engine parts for assembly for both his car & the WPVW sports sedan , Dean has been here most nights dismantling the turbo system & plumbing for the dragster , mounting fuel pump , assisting with prepation on all cars , tonight he is stripping and servicing the 48idf webers for the WPVW sports sedan , Cindy has been here most nights assisting Ben , Tonight I have just completed the assembly of Chris' transmission , now I will assemble the axles & brakes ....... ALWAYS A 'TEAM' EFFORT @ WPVW

mactaylor ·

good stuff wayne and crew i am gunna be there on saturday cant wait!

hypo-vw ·

1st image shows just how far the intake gaskets were hanging into the inlet ports .

Tonight we stripped the engine for the dragster and we are pleasantly surprised in what we find and how good condition everything is .
This is what we have discovered so far .......

the engine is 2387ml
late model type-1 efi mag engine case (bored & clearanced)
8mm chromoly headstud kit
86mm DPR welded counterweight wedgemated stroker crank
wedgemated / lightened flywheel
5.7 Chevy journal H-beam rods
94mm Autocraft pistons (380grm each) & long barrels
titanium piston pins (66.5grm each) stock pin is 130grm
web cam 86c (310 duration .546" lift with 1.4 rockers)
straight-cut steel gear set
wide face lifters
CB comp eliminators , CNC ported 46x40 valves
Autocraft 1.4 rockers
deep sump kit

humpty ·

Sounds like a very solid long block there Wayne... Awesome basis... Odd about the intake gaskets being lift like that... Are the ports on the plenums matched to the heads or the gaskets?

hypo-vw ·

humpty wrote:Are the ports on the plenums matched to the heads or the gaskets?
the ports on the plenums are the same size as the gaskets .... so I would have to assume that a new pair of much bigger heads had been purchased for the dragster but they did not upgrade the intake system

hypo-vw ·

while cleaning & preparing the engine parts for the dragster yesterday , we discovered that 2 of the 94mm long barrels are cracked down the top spigot ( just the same as Ben & Chris' engines did )

today Allan machined to length some new barrels for me , but I fear that this is going to happen again unless I purchase another set of Pauter barrels for the engine

So while engine parts were being prepared , I did some maintenance on the dragster . I installed a new front floor section as there wasn't one there , Dean mounted the Holley fuel pump & we made new aeroflow lines , then I fitted the new tyres to the rear wheels , and while I had the tyres off the rims I decided to weigh them ...... just 3.255kgs

hypo-vw ·

after fitting the rear tyres I removed the front runners , cleaned & taped the rims , then installed the new tyres , then I installed the new purple Deist parachute & bag . I also replaced some steering pivot bolts and tomorrow will install new front wheel bearings

dangerous ·

😂
I knew you would change the chute. 😉

hypo-vw ·

dangerous wrote:😂
I knew you would change the chute. 😉
yes Dave , the old chute still looks in good condition but is very old , the bag is very faded & the deploy spring was missing , so I opted for a new Deist chute which is much more compact
We have been using his type of chute on Ben Fords' supercharged bug & it has been working really well and not too harsh . We have also just installed one on Chris Boltons' turbo bug also

1303Steve ·

Hi Wayne

Great work on all the cars.

If the government could see how much people spend on preparing old cars to race or just drive on the street they might forget about giving money to car manufacturers and instead give it to motor sport and the old car movement.

All of this work on these cars must help the local economy.

Steve

hypo-vw ·

all engine parts are prepared for assembly . On Thursday I reassemble the engine , then Chris Bolton works all night long installing the engine , all turbo system & plumbing , all wheels , new front wheel bearings , all body panels etc

hypo-vw ·

I also do a small modification to the cage also with adding a helmut guard as per the ANDRA rule book

hypo-vw ·

Chris installs the turbo system and we make new manifold gaskets matched to the inlet ports

hypo-vw ·

Chris installs the engine into the dragster

hypo-vw ·

Chris has the dragster looking complete once again

hypo-vw ·

Chris installs the new harness & the dragster is ready to race

hypo-vw ·

I have had a new nappy fabricated to suit the type-1 engine in the dragster as requested by the tech inspector , as all vehicles that run quicker than 9.0 on the quarter require one to be fitted to the engine .
When I install my big type-4 engine , I will have to get another one made to suit it also . I will trial this one first to see if it gets affected by the engine heat

hypo-vw ·

I did an engine start last night , checked for any fluid leaks before I installed the nappy on the engine in the WPVW dragster . Looks pretty good and hopefully we will never have to find out just how good it works .....

hypo-vw ·

I have received the tech inspection sticker & logbook for the dragster ..... so we are ready to go !!

I am unable to put the dragster on the dyno @ South Coast Rotary as the dragster is too narrow in the rear , so I will have to run it at WSID with the air/fuel meter installed and do some tuning after each run . Not my idea of an ideal situation but I will have to work with that for now . I am hoping that the tune of the methanol Demon carburettor is close as it was used & tuned on Ben Ford' supercharged bug .....

benny_acko ·

Looks amazing Wayne and team.Look forward to seeing and hearing it bullet down the track!

a short vid of an engine start on the Dragster , after I had already ran the engine for several minutes

herbug74 ·

I'm very new to the VW scene, very much enjoying it. I saw this dragster at Waynes shop this week and it looks mean to say the least.

I just want to thank Wayne and the guys down at WPVW for getting my wife's semi auto running nice and reliable. He really took an interest in our simple little car and didn't look down at it, he could have easily done so considering the monsters he has lurking in there.

A real gentleman and a credit to the VW scene.

I had a great time at WSID on saturday with my first passes in the WPVW dragster ...... what a blast it is to drive !!

It was sensational to see the response received for all the VW's running at the event . It was great to see and chat to all of the guys at CBB and to just chill and enjoy a day at the track together .

I gained some valuable data on the dragster ( especially that it goes straight !!) and here are my times for the 4 passes that I made ......

Tonight Chris Bolton & I pulled the engine from the WPVW Dragster in preparation for Warwick 2013 VW Drags , to check the clutch and to remove the heads for inspection .....

The clutch is shagged !! the 4-puk iron disc is very badly worn & heat affected

The turbo is also shagged as the compressor turbine has suffered damage , which in turn has scored the compressor housing . The turbo will have to be replaced also

I removed the heads for inspection to find the headnuts are extremely loose as the 8mm headstuds have stretched grossly . The headstuds will have to be replaced

I also find that another cylinder has cracked . This time no.2 cylinder has cracked down the top spigot . We have found that the AA 94mm long barrels are reliable up to 250hp , but anything over that the top spigots crack badly . Time for some better cylinders

vassy66T1 ·

Ouch!
Just a little bit more work to put on your plate Wayne ....
Looking forward to seeing it at Warwick

humpty ·

hypo-vw wrote:I also find that another cylinder has cracked . This time no.2 cylinder has cracked down the top spigot . We have found that the AA 94mm long barrels are reliable up to 250hp , but anything over that the top spigots crack badly . Time for some better cylinders
That's not good to hear.... I'm putting a set of those on my new engine in the very near future!... What cylinders are you looking at Wayne?

hypo-vw ·

I will order another set of Pauter cylinders Simon ...... not sure yet whether I will use their race cylinders as I have used in Chris Bolton' turbo engine or their semi-modular cylinders as I have used in Ben Ford' supercharged engine . I will decide within the next couple of days

hypo-vw ·

well I have decided to step it up to the Pauter semi-modular cylinders for the dragster . I really didnt want to spend too much on this engine as it is only a temporary engine which I will use until my big type-4 engine is ready for installation , however I want the engine to be reliable & tough , so this is my choice of cylinders .
I have also decided to remove the 8mm chromoly headstuds & install a set of Raceware 10mm chromoly race studs . This will require removal removal of the factory 8mm case inserts & installation of 10mm inserts

hypo-vw ·

after installing all of the 10mm case inserts , I install the new set of Raceware 10mm race studs . I then clean & install the barrels / heads so that I can start to fabricate the new turbo system .
I have also decided to upgrade the turbo system with larger tubing , larger plenums that match the ports in the heads & a larger turbo

sorry your day started so shit Dave !! but that was for the benefit of those on the forum who are not engineers and/or experts in stud removal , and might just want to know how the f&@K you get these things out & what type of inserts are used to convert from factory 8mm inserts to 10mm inserts ......🤪🤪

great to see that you are your normal happy self !! have a great day 😂😂

matberry ·

^^ 2060 🙄

Hi Dave, nice your still with us

Good work Wayne, so you use the Snap-On stud remover for the inserts....?? I've always used a modified (ground to a taper) nut and double nutted them, always a result but never easy. So do you drive the shaft into the threaded insert and have no problems winding it out?

SuperOwen ·

Did you do this without splitting the case? I always thought it was a job for a mill.

Good to see you didn't roll out of bed by accident this morning Dave. 👍

hypo-vw ·

matberry wrote:so you use the Snap-On stud remover for the inserts....?? . So do you drive the shaft into the threaded insert and have no problems winding it out?
with the Snap-on stud removal kit pictured , I was able to leave the engine assembled and fill each barrel opening with clean cloths to avoid foreign material entering the engine case .
Fortunately the factory 8mm case inserts are blind inserts , so I was able to drill each one ( including the deep no.3 stud ) with the 5/16" drill bit supplied in the kit , then drive the 5/16" removal shaft into each insert and remove them quite easliy . A couple of them were really tight as they had been there a long time , but placing the removal nut ( this is supplied in the kit to slide over the shaft ) down against the engine case to avoid unneccessary twisting / breaking of the removal shaft , I was able to get them all out .

I then used the 2nd kit pictured to install 10x1.5mm VW case timeserts . I had to run the timesert drill inside the 12mm holes when the inserts were removed , as the timesert drill has an extra cutting edge to chamfer the stud holes at the top so that the new inserts sit below the surface when installed . After all metal is cleaned away and stud holes are thoroughly washed out with brakecleaner , I then install the timesert inserts with the insert tool that is also supplied in the kit . The insert tool screws the inserts into place then spreads them out to correct size , locking them in place correctly . I also used loctite on the outside of inserts that I installed .

dangerous ·

Definitely the way to do it!
I love the Snap on removers, and the timesert is much nicer than a helicoil type deal, and the same dimensions!

hypo-vw ·

I have fabricated a pair of aluminum flange plates & match-ported them to the heads on the Dragster engine , so that I can fabricate new larger plenums

I have also stolen the Garrett GT3582R roller bearing turbo from Deans turbo streeter (with Deans permission of course 😂) to use on the Dragster . Dean wants a larger turbo for his big type-4 engine . The GT3582R turbo has a 2.5" outlet on the compressor housing & a 4" inlet , so I will re make the entire intake system for better flow

hypo-vw ·

I fit the exhaust to the engine & clean-up/enlarge the area in the turbo flange for better exhaust gas flow into the turbo . The turbo is fitted to the exhaust header & the housings are aligned as required .
I then cut all of the material to fabricate the new plenums

hypo-vw ·

yesterday Dean assisted me as I started to fabricate the new plenums for the dragster , the inlet track to the plenums & the exhaust from the turbo

hypo-vw ·

the inlet plenums are looking good the the larger diameter inlet track should provide much better flow/power .

I had shipping confirmation that the Pauter semi-modular cylinders are on their way .....

hypo-vw ·

I have welded the plenums together & they are now ready for a quick detail .....

SuperOwen ·

Looks good, nice welds! Is it coming out before warwick?

hypo-vw ·

I have now completed the new turbo system & all welding is finished . I have welded everything with the TIG this time rather than the MIG . It has taken me a bit longer to get used to the TIG but there was very little grinding involved at the end .

hypo-vw ·

Today my new Pauter race cylinders arrived for the Dragster . I will remove the heads from the engine tonight and start machining ..... I have also connected the turbo drain with a couple of new Aeroflow fittings

Stanley ·

Looking nice Wayne.

hypo-vw ·

I TIG weld the crucifix into the exhaust outlet & a port for the A/F ratio meter .

hypo-vw ·

the Pauter semi-modular cylinders are fitted to the engine & the head machining starts to enable the heads to fit over the large OD cylinders .... the 3rd pic shows the cylinder head on the right after one full cooling fin has been removed

hypo-vw ·

the head spigot area is opened up to accept the Pauter cylinders

hypo-vw ·

the headnut bosses on the cylinder heads are machined to achieve the desired thread length on the studs as 3 of the 16 headstuds could have been 4mm longer , but not available in this length when I ordered them

hypo-vw ·

I then insert small grub screws (that have been sharpened to a point) into the cylinders & put the heads on to mark where the stud holes need to be drilled for the 5th & 6th studs

hypo-vw ·

the 5th headnuts wont clear the spark plus , so I machine down the nut boss area ..... unfortunately the head gaskets supplied by Pauter dont fit straight over the 5th & 6th headstuds so we will have to hand file the holes to suit as the gasket is very thin in this area . (we did have the same issue with Bens engine also)

vassy66T1 ·

Loving it Wayne 👍👍

Dasdubber ·

Nice work Wayne, thanks for taking the time to detail the build and upload the pics for the benefit of others.
Cheers
Al

WOO HOO !! just opened my mail tonight and received an ' OFFICIAL TRACK RECORD ' for Sydney Dragway in the CC/MD class in the WPVW Dragster 10.179@132.9mph .
I backed this up with a pass of 9.888@135.52mph but this was outside the 1% to be validated as a record .....

How many in the class ??????
not sure how many 4 cylinder supercharged/turbocharged modified dragsters there are in the country ..... the national record for this class is in the low 7's (powered by Nissan) , but WPVW currently has the quickest one that has run at Sydney Dragway since its opening ....

SuperOwen ·

National record next?

Well done Wayne! Always nice to have a certificate to say you hold a record!

Holy cow, look at that C/MD record at 8.46! (normally aspirated 4 cylinder).
I wonder what that is!?

I see also that Russel Sarten's VW also holds a track record in SS/C!

Well done to you both!

impressive ,well done

Congrats Wayne.

new combo is looking good too 👍 :tu;

hypo-vw ·

the copper head gaskets are filed at the 5th & 6th stud holes to fit the stud pattern in the Pauter cylinders .... the pistons are installed into the cylinders & the cylinders are prepared for painting

hypo-vw ·

the cylinder heads are cleaned & assembled , the volume of the combustion chambers is measured & the compression ratio calculated , the cylinders are painted

hypo-vw ·

I calculate the compression ratio & choose a 0.030" (0.75mm) shim for under the cylinders to set the comp at 8.75:1 ...... the final assembly starts with the installation of the pistons & cylinders

hypo-vw ·

the heads & cylinders are installed ..... everything has gone together really well so far

55slug ·

Are the 5/6th headstuds just threaded into the cylinder ? Is there no concern with threads at that end of the cylinder with the amount of potential thermal expansion even with methanol ?

hypo-vw ·

55slug wrote:Are the 5/6th headstuds just threaded into the cylinder ? Is there no concern with threads at that end of the cylinder with the amount of potential thermal expansion even with methanol ?
the 5th & 6th studs are threaded straight into the top of the extra heavy-duty cylinder spigots as Pauter have designed them to be . There is also the option of drilling the threads that Pauter have installed there , straight thru the spigot & running studs to the case if the case is suitable . My mag case is not suitable to do this ......

hypo-vw ·

I got the engine for the dragster finished last night after Ben installed the pushrod tubes & Daniel linished/polished the plenums . I then adjusted tappets , painted new fabricated parts for the exhaust & intake , assembled all of the exhaust / turbo etc

hypo-vw ·

this morning I installed a new 4-puk iron disc , cleaned the flywheel & stage-4 pressure plate prior to Ben Ford assisting me in lifting the engine into the dragster..... the old clutch disc was 1mm thinner than the new disc & very worn

hypo-vw ·

the oil & breather hoses are all cleaned prior to assembly , the 675cfm Demon methanol carb is installed

I have purchased a Turbosmart E-Boost street controller for the dragster . This will allow me to adjust the boost pressure accurately for both the staging boost & max boost , all from the drivers seat .

the breather box is removed & thoroughly cleaned out along with the breather filters & hoses

with the spark plugs installed there is ample clearance to the 5th headnuts due to machining of the heads

I really wanted to work on the dragster tonight to get it finished and fire-up the engine , but at 7pm I tried to weld 3 alloy dash-4 nipples to the new plenums & the bloody TIG ran out of gas !! Oh well , then monday it will be ...

a few pics I took of the dragster progress today .....

the boost pressure will now be controlled by a Turbosmart solenoid which is activated by the digital boost controller on the console .....

Very impressive Wayne, can't wait to see it at Warwick. Have you ran it on the 1/8th mile yet? what times are you hoping to get?
Cheers Michael

thanks guys ..... I have not run the dragster on the 1/8 mile yet , only on the quarter . Warren the previous owner ran it on the 1/8 mile quite a few times & he sent his timeslips over with the car & he ran consistant 6.1's@113mph ......I am hoping the work that I have done on the dragster has made some sort of improvement on this & maybe run close to 5.85@120mph , see how we go but really looking forward to Warwick 👍👍

Dean assists in wiring the Turbosmart E-boost controller & the dragster is all finished ready for an engine start

hypo-vw ·

the Dragster engine is fired-up and all sounds really good ..... very happy with results so far .
I also purchase a few MSD chips from 4000rpm thru to 6800rpm ..... the lower rev range chips will very very handy for testing circuits and boost control at the shop without revving the engine too hard . After set-up is complete the higher range chips can be installed

yesterday we did final preparation on the WPVW Dragster for the Warwick VW Drags ..... set-up & adjusted the 2-step launch control & all appears to be great ..... we are seeing 12psi boost on launch @ 5600rpm & we can adjust it up or down from there . It is now packed in the trailer for the trip north of the border .....

I have decided to fabricate a new bar to hold down the air intake scoop with cut-outs to supply better air flow across the discharge venturis .
I also fabricated a mesh screen to cover the carburettor intake to avoid damage to the new turbo due to foreign material entering the intake.
This morning I washed the parachute & it easily dried today in the heat of the day.....
