FREE DRAG RACING ENGINE

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/105835/free-drag-racing-engine

RodPenrose 路

I am having a clean up here and have way too many good engines here that are not getting used . So , I have decided to donate a complete turn key 2276 cc carburetted dyno tuned engine to someone that needs it .
The engine is a full pro-stock style engine with a wedgemated crank , new carrillo's , magneto , exhaust , mega heads , clutch and 51 mm carbs . This engine should be in the 230-240 HP range and will be supplied with a dyno report .
The new owner will need to have a car or be building a purpose drag racing car , need a really good transmission to handle the power and must have a basic knowledge of how the VW engine works . This engine will have lots of compression and will require race gas and it will not have any tinware or be street drivable . This is a serious engine for someone that wants to have some fun without breaking their budget . Please let me have your proposal and I will get this organised , ROD. 02-42729920 .

Have to take my hat off to you Rod, that is a fantastic offer for someone. I wish I had more time and a spare car 馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤

Just for those thinking of this, does it have to be NSW based so you can keep track of it etc

Couldn't imagine anyone else promoting the vw sport with this much generosity 馃憤 馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤

Well done, Kev

Ive got a street car it can go in??

That's awesome Rod! You should send it up here to frosty! He's got a super sedan teched car, that motor would really do it justice!

I need an engine for my oval salt racer project. Currently set up with a 915 trans, full cage built to DLRA specs.

reub 路

Surely someone over here in the west could use it...

ocdrbug 路

MMM! This would mean my OCDRBUG could run VW POWER instead of Subaru 馃お and that means I could still race at SCG Meets now that Sportsbike & Prosportsbike has been canned. 馃槑

Amazing gesture of generosity, would a rat drag Ghia be a good candidate?

Really need an engine for the Ascort project..... there needs to be some competition for the bloke in S.A. that drags the blue Ascort....馃憤 Have all the other light weight bits and bobs to go on the car.

I am in the process of sorting through some of the issues with some people and I will let you all know who the lucky new owner will be real soon . I have had some interesting proposals and I wish I had more to offer so I will get this one out of the way first and see if I can help anyone else out . I am hoping this may be up and running with in a month or so , ROD.

Very generous of you Rod! Good luck to all those who have expressed interest!

Well , Morgan called past last weekend looking for a free engine , so I offered this N/A one to him and he said that it wasn't good enough or fast enough for him . He went looking in the back of my garage and found this one that he likes . If that wasn't good enough for him , he than wanted me to deliver it , so here it is on the back of my truck ready for delivery , ROD.

Now , all he has to do is to make it fit , ROD.

So am I right in thinking that this is two engines you have or are giving away for free and all they have to do is go drag racing.

Am I missing something here. Are you dieing or do you have a few hail Marys to make up for doing something really bad 馃槀馃槀馃槀馃槀

Don't get me wrong, I think it is great that you can help others out and it is also promoting VW racing. Just rare to see this sort of thing 馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤

Kev , yes , the turbo engine has a home and the N/A engine will be going to a home soon , ROD.

ocdrbug 路

Paying it forward is a real feeling of personal achievement, helping someone else make their dreams reality is the payoff馃槑. I'm realistically to far off for this opportunity & I see some others that could really benefit from Rod's generosity so if it were to be someone that is reasonably established in the sport would it be food for thought that they might consider doing the same for someone else that's at a lower / entry level as a good will gesture.

nearly there just need to take a bigger run up

WOW, two engines. You truely are a generous bloke Rod. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say thank you (Not in a sense of recieving anything, but in a sense that you have shown that there are still legitmate, genuine people out there).

Have a good one.

as a relative newcomer to this VW scene, can I just say- this doesn't happen anywhere else on earth, never have I seen an engine builder randomly give away an engine. Rod, my hat comes off to you sir. may the engine go to someone deserving, and may it run long and strong.

RodPenrose 路

Thanks guys , just sorting through the last few applicants now . I am trying to let the people that missed out know from myself as courtesy before I post the new owner here . Fabo , you never know what just may pop up in the near future , ROD.

Better leave that big wing now frosty cause you is gonna need it!!

FROSTY 路

Massive thanks to Rod Penrose Racing for his generosity, I'm stoked that Rod thinks that i'm worthy of an upgrade. The car will need some mods to accommodate the new power and will be ready for the next round of the 1/8 mile series in Gladstone.
Thanks
Frosty

fish26 路

Nice one mate, whats to become of the 1776, I've got a perfect 58' for it.

humpty 路

Finally the word is out.... So stoked for your Jason!... Get to it and be sure to document the updates!
With (more) power come great responsibility! 馃槈

RodPenrose 路

Firstly , thanks for the support and kind words . Secondly , I have to say sorry to Frosty for the delay with the engine as my health has been down for the past 5-6 weeks , however I am on the mend and am about to start the engine build . I will start posting some images and engine build spec's as I progress over the next couple of weeks . I will take you all through everything from the individual components all the way to the dyno tuning .
I have had Dave Butler flow the heads and I can now start to look into the camshaft options I have here . Owen also has a new high-tec engine calculator program for us to use . This program will let us know how much power the engine will make before it is actually built , all he has to do is fill in the data and it will calculate the final power and torque figures . I am all new to this technology , however I will see how close it will be when the engine is tuned . The program is very intense and all of the inputs into it have to be very accurate . We will also be experimenting with different intake runner lengths as well as exhaust header length , stinger sizes and some other funky stuff , ROD .

MrSpeedy 路

If this Owen bloke had a clue he wouldn't need a computer to build an an engine.

Performance Upholstery 路

I did think mr speedy was Ben for a while but you've just confirmed it for me... Hi Owen! Ben can't spell that well...

MrSpeedy 路

Your getting mixed up, Ben was Mrs Peedy.

Congrats FROSTY... Spewing I didn't see this thread earlier, been a bit pre-occupied... could have used the Engine for my Notchback! Rod, let me know next time!

Good to hear your feelling better Rodney... And we are looking forward to the engine build up and Owen's 'funky new tech'... 馃榾

It's just Engine Analyzer Pro simon.

matberry 路

I was using Engine Analyzer program back in the mid 90's, it's an amazing program that's come along way

For the money I think its pretty decent, but without a flow bench etc its not a lot of use apart from play/education.

coletrickle 路

just to confirm,Owen which simulator are you using please,Thanks in advance, col

FROSTY 路

Hi There, It has been a long time since the last post with heaps happening.
The engine has now been dyno'd and I have also made some big changes in the rear of the car, basically cut out all the lower tube and replaced it.
Dave Butler has built me a bullet proof box and all going well the wheelie bars will be fitted over xmas with the plans for a TNT at willowbank round the second/third week of January in preparation for the VWMA Sydney Showdown in Feb.
I will post a couple of photo's in the next week.
Yew... not long now!!!!
Thanks
Frosty

RodPenrose 路

Well done frosty . Seems like a pretty good first outing . Your times are very consistant and the engine sounds sweet and the car looks to be tracking straight , so in the end I congratulate you on a sucessful debut . Please let me know what the new style of clutch feels and works like as it seems a little aggressive maybe . Can you let me know what the shift light is set at and what you upper limit is . The light seems to come on really quick and may have to be adjusted for next time . When will you get a chance to run it again and will you make the Sydney meeting in Feb , ROD.

FROSTY 路

Hey Rod, firstly "holly Shit it feels great to fun fast" shift light is set at 7000 and upper limit is 8000, as it was the first time out i thought these were a good starting point. I realise now that launching at 7000 was too high and wheelie bars a little too low. I'm now planning another TNT before sydney, just going to wait for a cooler day as it was a scorcher to debut it in.
thanks
Frosty

RodPenrose 路

Hi Jason , I would say to leave the upper limit at 8000 at the moment . If you are hitting the limiter all of the time I would lift it up by another 4-500 as the engine should be good for 8500 rpm's at least . I would lift up your shift light to about 7500 to see how it all goes . In my old turbo car I eventually had the shift light set at 7400 as by the time I shifted , the engine was already @ 9200 . This was either me being too slow on the gear change , or the engine reving so quick . You will eventually fine a sweet spot that you can get the most out of the engine without being on the limiter . The car looks good and is picking the wheels up on the 2nd gear change so it will only get quicker as you settle into it , good luck and I look forward to seeing it in Sydney , Rod .
