This is kinda the heart of the project, Subaru WRX EJ 20 motor, some of the things going into it are:
2.5 L crankshaft, 12mm high flow oil pump, KP’s MLS full gasket set (1.2mm thick), Mahle Street Stroker Forged pistons and ring set, ARP Head Stud kit, Manley H Beam Stroker Connecting Rods, King Race Big end Bearings, King Race Main, Gates Racing Belt kit, Brain Crowler Upgraded shafts, stronger springs, Retainers etc.., Brian Crowler Adjustable Cam Wheels, WRX parallel fuel rails, 800cc Siemens injectors, injector wiring plug kit, WRX/STI 245 ltr fuel pump, Link Storm G4+ ECU
The transmission was rebuilt in Australia and is Subaru, don’t know the model right now. This is a little project for a 69 bug, hope to have it done in July ‘15 . The drive train is being handled by AVO Turbo Thailand.
Hopefully I can post some pics throughout the build. I’m 63 and this is replacing the Harley’s as it should be a little easier to drive.

Just an update on the motor, it has been around the world more than me. Started in Aussie at a machine shop that I don't have the name of. They did the block and head machine work. Then we waited about 3 weeks for the big end brg.'s. Then there was the assembly and disassembly to machine the case to clearenance the rods. Then it was assembly/disassembly to machine the rods back in Aussie to clear the block. Rods were shipped last week.

Hey, interesting air intakes in the sides, but have you thought about the water that might come in inside the body panel?

Doing some awesome fab work, (more than I expected). I just orignally wanted to go with about 450-500 hp with the vw tranny. Then it just morfed out.
Looking for a rack and pinion to put in, gonna custom build th etorsion bar. Don't know what's happening in the rear yet. The engine is coming forward another 3-4" for balance and handling. Their bulding it like a kid is gonna drive it, hell I'm an old 64 year old man (little crazy)
Thanks for reading

CC it was a good read for me about your project-you are doing good work there and out of the "norm".We are the same age and our Grandfathers were probably in rocking chairs with knee rugs at our age.I reckon that I will run out of time to finish all the ideas buzzing in my head for future projects.I know the next one will definitely be Subi powered.Keep the good info and pics coming please.

Thanks for reading. It started as a dream kinda. After I had sold the Harley I figured I'd make good on a bet I had with a friend about his 65 Mustang and me building a VW that could outrun his little Pony.
Well he's got the pony running and it's hot, Discovery Channel did a show on it. So once the story was told the thing just started to grow, new front end, rear suspension, and about 650-750 hp.
Should have all the major frame work done in the next two weeks. Then they will put more guys on the fab work for the air inter coolers, air ducks, radiator, brakes, etc..

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping for Christmas, but that's gone. Then I mentioned the VW show in Feb, now I hoping for June. Most of the major structure work is done, now it's down to boxing everything in. The engine is 95% done, just to need to build the oil pan.

Well, guys and gals the body work at least on the rear is getting close to being done. The suspension is done (minus brakes), put the engine and tranny back in to figure out where to (dry) in the body work.
Most of the parts are back in to do final fit ups on the body work. The rear was extended to keep the muffler out of sight.

You have been busy.I have started my Suby project now.Are you running a power steering rack.If not, what do you blokes do when you remove the steering pump? Is there an idler pulley available to still run the same belt?
CheapChalee ·
nbturbo wrote:You have been busy.I have started my Suby project now.Are you running a power steering rack.If not, what do you blokes do when you remove the steering pump? Is there an idler pulley available to still run the same belt?
No power steering, the guys thought that I might over correct so it's just rack and pinion. Looking at 600+ hp, so we will see how it handles.

Sorry I didn't answer your question. I don't really know, I'm sure there is a work around. I'm sure that a normal belt for a car with no power steering would work.
