https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/113857/type-3-squareback-rustoration

niishkombi ·

Covid got me good... Another basket case landed in my hands..
Purchased this one in May '20, been sitting out front of Leons since and now its down at Brad's Concept Coach Works for some much needed chemo!

niishkombi ·

Strip down commenced last week, rat shit, cobwebs and dust removal.. Unearthing the cancer!

niishkombi ·

Floorpan split and off blasted before welding in new floorpans thanks to Das Resto Parts!

niishkombi ·

Plan is to sort all the rust, install a ragtop similar to the pics, slap on the AirEvo boots pilfered from my Karmann, lower with Fresh Kustoms drop plates, narrow and adjust the front beam, throw in some plugs & oil, jif up the saltnpepa interior & drive.

vw54 ·

Reminds me of my first car a 65 Wagon
same trim was a nice car to drive
I fitted a set of Twin carbies of a 1600 engine and a set of Sonic extractors

I see yours still has the single carby
Going to be a BIG project

niishkombi ·

Few more in progress pics

hulbyw ·

You are certainly not afraid of a challenge. Great to see another VW being rescued.
Cheers

niishkombi ·

Floorpans in... plenty of work done already

niishkombi ·

The replacement pans needed to be fettled to make them work. Every corner needed work

niishkombi ·

Some of the cancer being removed. Braced and ready for mating the pan back to the body

niishkombi ·

Replacement steel sections in progress

beetleboyjeff ·

niishkombi ·

Plenty of fresh steel welded in, progress is rapid!

niishkombi ·

Tricky hand formed S sections took hours to fabricate

niishkombi ·

Scored this Skinned Knuckles 4 inch narrowed beam from a fellow Type 3 enthusiast

vw54 ·

niishkombi ·

vw54 wrote:how does the beam fit into the bulkhead have you got spacers
Informed that it is bolt in, will check wheel clearance if spacers are required

vw54 ·

I meant spacers for the beam as bulk head is over round if u get my meaning but good if it fits in

MR930 ·

Love your dedication.

zayus ·

Hey! Hey!

Mould is the ultimate accessory for European Rats!

The fabrication looks fantastic.

What a weapon!

Good to see another Squareback being resurrected. I'm working on a 72 at present.

Not planning on doing a full resto - resolve all the rust issues and maintain patina is the current plan. Lowered & narrowed front on AirEvo's with ragtop

niishkombi ·

Rear wheel well completed this week

beetleboyjeff ·

vw54 wrote:Hey that looks great whats the length of the roof

Yes, its full length 89cm x 165cm which opens up the entire roof

niishkombi ·

Another rear wheel arch repair complete

niishkombi ·

Onto roof repairs before we cut the gaping hole in for the ragtop!

niishkombi ·

Scored these sweet bumpers from another fellow enthusiast.

Just need a set of front bumper mounts... Anyone?

boof2332 ·

Are you rolling all that sheet metal on an english wheel?

Awesome work mate, on piece at a time. I thought replacing the section on my mates super bug under the vent/rear quarter, where the foam holds water was time consuming. Will be sweet when its done!

Please keep posting the progress pics. I am about to start a fasty that had a rear corner hit.

vw54 ·

beetleboyjeff ·

Damn that looks good.

hulbyw ·

niishkombi ·
