Hi people,
I am pretty new to the forum and i think it is great but i thought it was about time i posted our current project.
It is a mix of 2 bugs a 73L and a 74L. Just had the paint job done and have most of the parts lying around ready to put it all back together...just need the time.

Yeah it has been taken down to nothing. body engine, everything has been undone, repaired and now just needs to be put back together. The wiring loom came out cause we got the basic shell from the wreckers (the original shell was in an unrepairable state) and it didnt have a wiring loom. The shell was taken back to bare metal and all imperfections taken out before being painted by a smash repairs shop at mates rates.馃榾 The engine has been completly taken apart to nothing and rebuilt and restored. This bug is funded by my dad and he wants it kept all standard...would love some empi's ofcourse but thats about it. My dad has always wanted one of these bugs since he was a kid. Next time i take some pictures i will have to take it when its not in the shade..doesnt give it justice. Will be posting more pics...and aventually i will be making a video showings its progress when it is finished:bounce

..oh and yeah the 75L.....think it is going to be yellow. Lots of work ahead for that one. The front was banged in and it currently has another front welded on (hence why it is currently two colours) The 75 scores cause it was the only bug (that i know of anyways) to have R&P steering and it was the last to have a curved windscreen. Also was the first to have its indicators on the bumper..nightmare to get parts for though...if anyones got some for a 75 would be appriciated 馃榾

Well We have added the wheels we had fixed and painted..aswell as getting the front and rear bumpers back from being painted and the wiring loom has started being put back in (big job..imagine doing it in a modern car...go the old skewl)

DUDE!!! There's my car! ...It is very similar anyways. What colour is yours? Ours is Sting Red or more commonly known as "Manaro Red". We have also painted our bumpers and have decided to move the indicators to the bumpers too. We are on the westside of the city. Would love to see yours.

Mine is Ford colour 'Hot Chilli Red' - was originally Artic White - have got all the delivery documents for the car except the actual receipt. Car is off the road at the moment for some post resto fix-ups. Inner north Brissie here. Can swap more pics by email if you like.

K...a bit of an update. Been a busy weekend. The wiring loom is now basically in and the dash has been put in. Wired up the future sound sytem (speaker wire and power etc.) and put the speedo in. Painted up the fuel tank and installed all of it and its little bits and finally we started putting some of the rubbers on.
Next weekend we should be putting the new ceiling in...
Does anyone have some seats that would do nicely in our bug?????

My friend who had an L, he got seats out of an Audi 80, required a tiny bit of mods. They have the same mounting/sliding setup as super bugs. Very comfy n cool they were.

This weekend we put in the ceiling in and started putting the windows back in. Sounds like not much but both are big jobs.
Will post pics as soon as i am no longer under the strain of EGG-HAMS!!!.
Next week we should be putting in the doors and hopefully doing the final checks on the wiring loom so we can put the engine in 馃榾
Btw. does anyone know if there is a special sorta of way that u get wires for speakers into the door..or do u just drill some random holes. Any help in this matter would be appriciated.

looks very sweet. Nice to c and L bug getting restored. Mite have to have a L bug meeting in brissy. got a mate who just bought a L bug.
With seats it depends on what u want, from stock (get some old ones rebuilt) to slightly nicer eg mod some base for a jap import eg honda, or race type like aerotech in mine.
does guy have an L bug in stock at the moment? last time i checked he had none left.

Well peoples more has been happening with the bug. It's grows some doors!! and now all the windows are in.
In terms of seats i think we are recovering the old ones...
I have finished uni for the semester馃榾..so i will post some pics some day when i get off my lazy DoNkEy's ass:o..which wil prolly be later on today..

Well peoples....we have been working on the car for the past 3 days...
Lots has been done...ALMOST LOOKS LIKE A CAR!!!!
Been working on the internal heaps..
Door trim is all in.. All panels. Back speakers for the stereo are in
the felt looking stuff has gone in and the back seat is in
ENGINE IN!...thats a job!
Currently checking to see if all the wiring loom is all set up good so then we can start it!!!!!! and drive it!!!!

well the project started about a year ago....but we didnt really start till about well...whenever this post started when we got the body back from the panel beaters...
My dad gets Friday's off...so normally we have been working a friday a week since then..
but my dad is currently on holidays so for the past week it has been our life
And luch ..picked up some seats today
125 bucks and out of a Daewoo (cringe)...but they look sweet and fit perfectly

its amazing how much the colour changes with the light...When it is really sunny it looks almost orange but when it is overcast it looks a marone colour..
