I received an email from a girl today who is having Her Beetle painted at a VW Workshop... 10 beetles were outside.... along with Her mothers non VW car which was totalled... She had sent Me a pic of a Purple Beetle that was just finished last weekend... it was also outside...
Golf ball size hail.. makes a mess of most cars even including VW Beetles which are much stronger than the modern car.
My condolences to anyone who was caught in the storm.....

Hmmm, bad luck about the weather, we had a rough few days of storms in byron as well, no large hail stones though...
I went to riverstone once, to AP spares, is he still there?
A hole may be right but could be a little harsh

We got hammered here in Tweed, I was watching the storm going over Byron as well, one of the most intence lightning storms I have ever seen!

How awesome was that lightning :thumb馃榾 Just sat on the deck drinking beers...better than the openning ceremony at the rugby world cup

We had to go to Lismore for dinner and that was the scariest trip over ever. Incredible lightning but would have rathered been home protecting the house. Byron missed it but i think we got it here(ocean shores) then it moved to tweed and out to see. My parents are camping up at indy and mum rang me in a panik to see whether it was heading their way.
More to come tonight. Go to the bureau of meteorology web site www.bom.gov.au and click on the state or radar images. There also should be some where about severe thunderstorm warnings.

At least its not "Golf" sized hail

OK better go and get meself some beers for the show tonight!

I'm just north of brissy, we didn't get it bad......I was sitting in the lounge room with the rain and lighting and thunder and you'd think (since it's normally first) that we wouldn't have hail. but at 9:30 the rain turned to hail, I don't think I've ever moved so quickly, I had the bug in under the patio in around 1 minute.......and that's driving around my house to get to it........no damage here.....
Hope everyone's cars aren't to badly damaged......馃檨 keep your cars in tonight....I'm watching the storm pass over right now......

I just love watching massive electrical storms. We don't get them as big as you guys.
I can remember going to Kirra Beach a few years back and trying to find the place we were strying during a massive down pour:o
I've been in the tropics/Pacific Islands but had never experienced such a heavy downpour. It was kinda exciting at the time馃檪

Y2K why would you go to Lismore?
It hit byron pretty hard last night and just now, only little hail though...heading north

Was watching Indy and the drivers were getting hit pretty bad by hail, then we got it here as well on the North Side of Brissy, not quite golf balls but at least very large marbles.....all I could do was watch as they bounced off the 3 VW's parked out front......馃檨

My daughter Bridie has just arrived home from work.
She is at AAMI's call centre here in Melbourne, but they get the after hour calls from around OZ.
She started work at 2pm. She said at 2.30 pm thy got hit with calls from NSW and southern QLD from people who's cars had been damaged in the storms.
They called extra staff in and some staff are doing over time to cope.
Bridie said they had queues of 60 calls waiting at any one time. This was and still is constant. Bridie decided to come home because she had brain meltdown after 8 hours of continual calls.
Geez it must have been so bad up there.

well I am finally back in the civilised world today. A really nasty storm hit Brisbane yesterday, with the worst of it hitting Mt Nebo and Samford area, and I live in Samford.
It flattened a few trees, broke one in half, pulled others out by the roots, and generally made a mess of the place.
We lost power and only just got it back today. Suburban people might think losing power is fun cos you get to get out the candles, but we're on tank water. The pump on the tank needs electricity to pump the water. So we had no power, no running water, no toilets, no showers. Oh what fun.
One tree fell across the driveway blocking it and had to be towed out the way by the baja. Lucky I park in a shed so was safe from the hail.

all the good weather seems to by-pass the city 馃檨 its been ages since ive seen a really good storm!

Bad luck Wrecker. That's no good.
I'd just moved to Berowra last week and we got it bad too. I still had unpacked boxes in the garage, and both cars were out in the hail.
I've never seen it hail so much for so long. The hail over us lasted 60 mins at least (kept on swinging back around].
The garage flooded, but no dents on the cars. The kids enjoyed it though, making ice balls out of the hail.
The pool is also a silted mess so a bit of tidying up to do.
At least yesterday we managed to clean up the garage and unpack all of those things that we hadn't got around to. Now - both cars fit in the garage!
I hope everyone else faired ok.

We got two days of hail in the blue mountains, lucky though, they were about the size of marbles. Best of luck to all those affected, we had a bad storm a couple of month's ago and i know the pain.馃槧

Hi
Sorry to here about all the damage.
We went camping at a friends property at Peelwood (Nth of Goulbourn) for the weekend, when we were on the M5 we could see the weather building up over near Penrith and we were hoping we would miss it, I don鈥檛 know how a Prado would hold up to hail, not well I imagine. A friend of mine worked at Capital Motors in Auburn (a huge Datsun dealer) in 1976 when there were really bad storms down Parramatta Road (the car yard strip in Sydney) she had her 71 Super parked there and only had damage to her chrome strips, needless to say the Datsuns were totalled. That鈥檚 why a lot of cars from that era had vinyl roofs.

I was at Indy on the weekend and it hailed there at the track... Kinda fun in a way. But I thought oh shit there's going to be some damage, somewhere. Yep, next day, plenty of dinted cars on the Gold Coast. Sorry to hear it included some of you Dubbers... My best mate's Rodeo suffered damage just up the road from me in Berowra; luckily for me my dubs and Holdens were under cover
