I am particularly interested in the guys from NSW, or am I the only buggy/baja nut down here making the trip.

I'm leaving Sydney on Monday moring, the 24th of November. I will get to Brisbane on Tuesday as I am planning an overnight stay in Brunswick Heads. This will leave me a few days in Brisbane to catch up with people that I know up there.

What are you guys all doing?

Andy ·

Looks like you were missing the CB this morning also! I noticed some one else had it.
Well that or you slept in the wrong bed last night 😀 😀 😀 😀

the frog ·

I'll be there and can stay the entire weekend now that I'm an unemployed bum. My baja will be ready wont it Brad, I don't want mine to be sleeping as long as Terrys:P

Brad ·

Mr Frog - Your baja is safely tucked into bed and ready for completion some time soon.. You have met my wife and seen my IOU.. It will be done 😀😀

This years stickers are done ( thanks Steve :thumb) and ready to go, t-shirts we are still working on but since every buggy / baja gets one we had better get cracking on them....:thumb

manxed69 ·

Come on guys, isn't there anyone else coming to Frazer?

I saw alot of ribbing of the Queensland guys because hardly anyone came down for Stockton the other week and now we doing the same to them.

Baja Wes ·

Well it looks like I should be able to make fraser. I have to go to Townsville to commision a piece of gear I designed but it looks like I should be finished the friday before we leave :thumb

daz67 ·

I'll be there!!!!!:thumb😀😀😀

manxed69 ·

It looks like I'll be having a lonely drive from Sydney to Brisbane.

Baja Wes ·

For anyone interested;

WHO – Manx Club Australia
Fraser Island Trip 2003!

WHEN – 29th / 30th Nov 03

WHERE – Meeting at BP Service Centre, just north of Brisbane on the Highway heading north (the one with the McDonalds, near Caboolture). Meeting at 7.00am, leaving 7.30 am sharp and cruising up to Rainbow Beach. Should get to Rainbow around 9.30-10:00am. Pick up our permits and head out onto the Manta Ray Barge.

COST - $60 Club Members, $65 Non Club Members this includes your trip entry, Manx Club T-shirt and barge fees. You will still need a National Parks vehicle access and camping permit (about $35?).

DETAILS – We will be camping just north of Eurong on the Beach. Once we get to the camp site on Saturday we will set-up, have some lunch, then head off for an afternoon cruise. In the evening we have some activities planned and a BBQ. On the Sunday we have another trip planned to the Northern tip on the Island and then back into Central Station for a look around. Some members will be leaving while others will be staying till Monday when they will cruise back down Double Island beach and get off at Noosa Nth Shore and cruise back down the Highway to Brisbane.

Last year we had over 20 Buggies in attendance along with 3 Baja bug and a couple of people in 4WD’s who just wanted to hang out and see the benefits of finishing / getting their buggies sorted.

WHAT TO BRING - The club will supply a BBQ and group tent / cover. You will need to bring all your own camping gear and food for the weekend. Shops are available but prices are higher than Main land. Toilet facilities are also available a short drive from the Camp Site.

WANT MORE INFO ?? – If so please contact Brad - email
brad@manxclub.org, or just reply to this post.

I hope to see you all on the BEACH!

Boozer ·

hmmm as i'm not going to schoolies cause i'm a lazy barstrd and couldn't be bothered organising anything i might see if i can go to this. can i please????😀 I might bring BM too if he gets over his nuclear-scale sunburn. can i? I've been thinking about joining the club but keep forgetting.

mattie182 ·

I should be there, so should a mate in his rat buggy

Does some-one in charge, have an idea on numbers?????

Baja Wes ·

Boozer, your more than welcome to come. Non members just pay an extra $5 to come along as a kind of incentive to join the club.

As for numbers, Brad would be the person to ask. I think most of the QLD guys will be there, and 1 NSW guy so far 😀

Boozer ·

MAD! Now i just gotta organise it!😀:thumb

Brad ·

Numbers are a funny thing as you never really know here are a few

Brad - Manx
Darryl - Manx
Wes - Baja
Mick - MaxFx
Jon - Manx
John - MaxFx
Steve - Manx
Andrew - Tow'd
Terry - Country Buggy
Darren - Baja
Troy - Manx Clone
David - Mk1 Supa Sports
Rick - Manx
David - Manx
Neil - Baja
Matt - Mk2 Supa Sports
???? - Rat Buggy
Doug - Manx

There is a few more but my memory is getting bad :o:o

Brad ·

maybe Mark - Manx, Andrew - Manx and George - Manx

Also most of the above people are bringing partners / friends and some Kids.

😎😎

Buggyboy ·

And here I was thinking that it was this weekend clashing with the Noosa Hillclimb and that my country buggy wouldnt be ready- luckily I stuffed up with the dates and so the added two weeks shouldn't be a drama. So you can add another buggy to the list- At the very worst I can bring the hilux (dont mean to swear) to see how the buggies perform etc..

🙂

Brad ·

Another CB... way cool....

Hilux is not a swear word 😀 we do however like to reffer to them by the club name of Buggy Recovery Vehicle..... :o:o

I will have my CB home this time next week with a bit of luck... how cool will my yard look then, 4 Buggies, 1 CB, 2 x Type 3's and Kombi, a Hilux and a few other Manx's that will be visiting for some pre fraser hot ups 😀😀😀😀

Brad ·

Dan - Manx and 3 of his buggy mates

I hope we can break 25 from last year ...

BUGGY BUGGY BUGGY BUGGY ......

Better get some more T-shirts and stickers made 😀😀

Brad ·

looking good :thumb

Brad ·

Not long now, anymore takers ???

MickH ·

It's official: SEEYANEXTYEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bounce

Brad ·

Mick H wrote:It's official: SEEYANEXTYEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bounce
Whats official ??

youngone ·

hmmm.. i'm noticing alot of guys names on the list. Where are all the buggy babes??

i really want to go, i'm not sure how my manx would take it. how much '4wd'riving is needed? i'm already driving around with a broken windscreen....

Baja Wes ·

fraser is pretty mild offroad wise. If you worried about your car you can probably park it at the camp site and bu, lifts off others for the weekend. There are plenty of people with spare seats.

the soft sand is the only tricky bit, I'm sure plenty of people will offer to tow you out if you get stuck.

MickH ·

Brad:I WILL BE THERE NEXT YEAR!!!! Wifey has booked hollidays so I can go !!!! YIPPEEEEEEE:bounce

Brad ·

Do you have the correct date ?
:P

MickH ·

Anytime November and December:bounce

Craig Torrens ·

mmmm, if someone had a spare seat and could pick me up from the airport at 7.00am Sat , I'll go ! Then drop me off on Monday at the airport 😀😀

Baja Wes ·

unfortunately I am now stuck in townsville and find it difficult to get time to access the net. I think if you came to brisbane firday night and crashed at someones house it would be easiest. the convoy is leaving the BP at 7am, and the BP is almost an hour north of brisbane. so picking up at the air port at 7am won't work for anyone.

Brad ·

mmm I have a spare seat and can pick you up Friday night and take you back Monday no Probs at all 😀😀

Boozer ·

so where is this BP exactly?

Baja Wes ·

Baja Wes wrote:WHERE – Meeting at BP Service Centre, just north of Brisbane on the Highway heading north (the one with the McDonalds, near Caboolture).
Well I don't know what to say other than that. It used to be near Burpengary but they knocked that one down and built a much larger BP with a macdonalds as part of it a little further up the freeway. It is somewhere around the Morayfield / Caboolture exists. When your cruising up the highway you can't miss it, a big BP with a macca's joined onto it. It is well signed.

Boozer ·

ah yes. now i remember.

Brad ·

Boozer wrote:ah yes. now i remember.
If you want I can point it out to you next saturday at about 7.00am :thumb😀

To make it easy I will get a few of my mates and park outside with camping gear and crap haning out of my manx everywhere 😀:P😀

Boozer ·

yes please, that would be helpful.😀😀😀:bounce

11CAB ·

Are you up for some more "Dozing" Boozer?? I wont be there to push you out this time.........😀

And the towball isnt the same since the kombi wheelstanded.....:o

Boozer ·

hmmm yeah. i'm gonna move that license plate onto the bull bar. and anyway i'm bringing along my mate so he can push!😀

Riaan ·

:oyou better not mean me:P, cawmon boozer bring me along😀

Brad ·

There is a few spare seats going up if anyone wants to bum a ride :o

Riaan ·

cawmon boozer iel take a week off school and come with you guys:P

Boozer ·

umm no, i'll take you to Dub's by the Pub instead.

Baja Wes ·

I may have a friend sorted for my spare seat, he's just got to see if he's free that weekend.

Brad ·

With 6 Days to go the Buggy gods said to me - fix you own damn buggy or everyone will laugh at you 🙁🙁

It seems 40 L of fuel for 160km is not a good thing for a Fraser Trip and rear shockies shoudl be bolted on properly 🙁

6 Days to go:

Fix Shocks
Fix Front Bar
Fix Rear Bar
Fix wipers
Fix headlights
Fix UHF
Fix Fule Consumption
Service Engine
Pack camping stuff and trailer
Get tent and BBQ
Finish Frog's Baja
Fix Troys Buggy

I think that is about it...

Lucky there is 24hrs in s day and Jen goes to teh USA lunchtime Wednesday

Almost Buggy Season on Fraser Again :thumb:thumb:thumb:thumb

Craig Torrens ·

Brad, instead of the word "Fix", use the word "modify"😀 then it doesn't sound like anything is wrong with the buggy now !!!

I wish I was coming !:cry

Boozer ·

All systems are go!....well mostly. The story of the gearbox saga continues. In the course of one day, saturday, my Dad and I ended up with a supposedly good gearbox and another beelte in the front yard! this time when pulling the box out of the baja we decided to pull both the engine and box out at the same time and then pull and join them together on the floor which made getting to bolts and stuf a hell of a lot easier. So far the gearbox does work in all gears though it is a bit tricky to select them and it pops out of 2nd when you are changing down but it's better than it was. The new bug has a 1600TP engine apparently, in good nick, original blue colour, a small amount of rust and most of it's interior intact. We haven't worked out what year model it is yet so i'll get some pics up soon, but i'm pretty sure it's a 70's one. Bring on Fraser!

11CAB ·

Boozer, which is better? popping out of 4th or popping out of 2nd?? If it is jumping now it will only get worse, and bouncing around offroad wont help either....
Have fun at Fraser tho.....
Wish I was going.....🙁

Boozer ·

yeah true but it only jumps out of 2nd when you are decelerating and it's not as bad as before, so it will do for a shor time.

Brad ·

manxed69 ·

As I sit here in Sydney lisening to the rain onto the roof I feel glad that the Manx Cub of Australia is doing its best to end the drought. Brad we need to organise some more events.

I still coming though.:P

Brad ·

As I sit here about to head of to uni the Frog is almost complete, 1 door trim left to make. My manx is sitting in the corner sooking about the lack of attention and the hours are ticking by.

The forcast is good though with sun expected for what that is worth.

mmmm not long and still much to do .....

11CAB ·

Steven, I'll probably pass you at some stage......we'll be at a wedding in Sydney on the weekend
Graham

Boozer ·

so what's the total on how many are coming so far? Just interested.

Brad ·

Boozer wrote:so what's the total on how many are coming so far? Just interested.
I'll let you know saturday 😀

Craig Torrens ·

How's that modification list looking Brad, any shorter yet :o

Brad ·

Rebuilt the carb linkages, modified the jetting and am taking it to the Dyno in 10 mins.

Pic it up there tonight and then pull it apart and modify the rest.

All is on track for another early saturday completion. :thumb:thumb

WHO CARES ?? we had a ball with what we had and that is the aim of the game. Got heaps of cool video and pics and a DVD will be burnt once it is edited.

You will all be happy to know the first person to get bogged on Fraser was ME :cry Boozer came close but I think I beat him.

Brad ·

Soft Sand :o:o

wibble ·

good to see John got bogged too😀

wibble ·

oh yeah before you bag me out for not being there, I bought another house on the weekend (well the bank did hopefully) with plenty of room to bring the max home and finish it and give the manx a birthday with room to spare:thumb:thumb

Andy42 ·

Glad yous had a good time. Hopefully🙁 my buggy will be ready next time and then we can see how it goes against the mega manx Hey?????😀😀

Boozer ·

hmmm it was pretty close Brad but I think you did get bogged first😀 with me about ten seconds behind...

Baja Wes ·

Well here's my weekend...

got back from Townsville friday night and madly prepared and packed the car, so got to bed late.

woke up very early saturday ate some breakfast and headed off to the meeting place. Felt very ill and had to keep stopping at servo's on the way 🙁 Eventually got to the meeting place a little late and felt like sh*t. Told Brad I didn't know if I'd make it, so tranferred the group esky to his car. I took some medication then parked beside a truck in the shade to rest for 1 hour and see if I felt up to going.

An hour after the others left I figured I would soldier on. I managed to catch up about 1/2 an hour on the highway, and a bit more getting permits and fuel so they didn't end up waiting very long for me.

We went over on the barge and brad got stuck being silly, but it was funny so I got a pic. Darryl gave Brad whiplash pulling him out.

We continued down the rough inland track til we found a cutting which turned out to be very very soft. I hit it about 4000rpm in first and started to slow, I figured I would stick it in 2nd and flatten it, but unfortunately I bogged down and stopped. 2nd attempt, I figured if I hit it in 4,500 in first again and don't grab second, I will be fine. wrong. 3rd attempt, I figured I needed to swing wide at the start and keep speed like brad did, and this time I hit it at 7,500rpm, made it at last. That cutting claimed a lot of bogged buggies and baja's. It was the one place where the hilux had an advantage over us :cussing

Finally out on the open beach I was having fun, gassing it in 2nd gear allowed gentle powerslides up to and over 100kph! It was fun for sure.

Eventually made it to our campsite site and set-up for the night. Late afternoon me and Brad got up to our usually antics of stirring each other and challenged each other to a sand drag race. We decided to race about 100m, so that we didn't exceed the 80kph speedlimit, or not by much anyway.

I went out and lined up at the start line, brad pulled up beside me. The crowd of onlookers had gathered on the dune to watch the action. Terry felt brave and stood between us to wave us off for a start. I reversed back a little, gassed it, and lined up again (warming my tyres of course 🙂 )

Terry's arms dropped and so did the clutches. First gear was all wheelspin for both of us, but I was edging ahead. Brad grabbed second and I continued to slowly pull away. Then I grabbed second, my go-fast in the sand gear. The back end squatted and it started to hook up, I started pulling away really really fast making Brad look like he was standing still. It was fun :thumb Terry got the best view, and my 100m long dual tyre tracks were cool too!

We had dinner and told stories, tried to plan events etc. My stomach was still feeling weak. We woke up the next morning and I had breakfast but still felt seedy. We started our journey north to the lighthouse. Just before happy valley my clutch stopped working. It felt like a broken clutch cable (lucky I carry a spare). I managed to go down the gears clutchless and park up happy valley. I crawled underneath and the cable was fine. weird. after some tinkering we decided it was terminal, something like broken throw-out release forks or something. I left the baja and went with brad up to Eli creek.

A couple of other guys were heading home sunday, so I opted to head off now with them so I could fix my car. We had a few dramas with the tides but eventually I drove from happy valley on fraser island to brisbane with no clutch. Thanks to Tom for staying with me the whole way to ensure I made it.

Then monday morning I washed the car and parked it in the shed. That's when I noticed the radiator dripping. overnight it had somehow gotten two holes in it. very weird. very lucky I hadn't stayed on fraser the extra night, I would've been stuffed :o
Still not sure why it holed, maybe alloy corrosion on the beach? who knows.

So last year I was the only one to have no dramas, and this year I had all the dramas. Ironic isn't it.

Brad ·

it was fun what else can be said.

mattie182 ·

Talking bout racin planes, on the way home Sunday, we did just that. A plane had landed and was driving up the beach, andwe were close behind. Would have been a good photo shot if the camera was working.

Great trip Brad!!!:thumb:thumb

Baja Wes ·

well I pulled my engine out, and the throw-out bearing forks looked fine.

So then I looked at the pressure plate. hmm, something not quite right here, the fingers aren't even.

Better pull it off and have a look. hmm, something not quite right with that clutch plate.

hmm, how much HP can a 228mm kombi clutch handle? not 200HP obviously. 🙁

All I can say is I was lucky the broken bit got wedged part way around and the entire lining didn't strip off. Otherwise I would've needed a tow the whole way home. Now, if I can just find a higher quality stronger clutch plate...

Brad ·

Just goes to show it took every bit of HP your V6 had to beat my little 52.4 HP rocket 😀

Better sort that out before I put my V6 in 😀

Brad ·

We will be having a Video and Slide night on the Fraser trip on Sat 7 Dec starting at 4..00pm at Brads place. After we will go and do a Christams Lights cruise for anyone who wanst to come. We have about 2 hrs of video and a couple of hundred slides.

Anyone who wants to come is welcome and dinner is a BYO BBQ or Pizza order.

Just curious did any one make it the whole weekend and not get bogged as it looks like the sand was very dry. All looks like a lot of fun though.
Are there any runs planned for around the new year??

Brad ·

Dazcat and Jon J didn't get stuck at all.

The BLBVW beach trip is on 3/4 jan 2004
