what a great day it was, apart from the traffic getting down there! it was good to finally meet heaps of people from the forum (so now i can put names to faces!) and got to see some great rides!! pics coming as soon as i get my sister to send my usb cable back!

hooray for veedubs and getting really sunburnt!

Overall it was a great day. As you can see, QLD turned on some beautiful summer weather. Congrats to the organisors, as most people would know I like people's choice shows. Keeps the cost down ($5 was great) and gives the daily driven cars a chance in the show. The only downside was the 20minute line-up at the gate, but that sort of thing is to be expected with a big turnout :thumb

Here's my trophies 😀

I won "favorite offroad" which I was really happy with. I was in against about 15-20 buggies, baja's and offroad kombi's. Thanks for everyone that voted for me :thumb

I was deciding whether to enter the best offroad or best aftermarket watercooled, but went offroad for a challenge. Best aftermarket watercooled would've been easy as there was only 1 other car in that category (a kombi) that was fairly well used.

But the second and bigger trophy was a complete suprise. Gold coast car sound came out to the show with a couple of non-vw demo cars. They then walked around to all the vw's and picked their favorite stereo installs. I managed to pick up 2nd in their choice!

for those that are interested, my stereo consists of a sony xplode 12" sub, 6x9"s, 6.5" fronts, a rockford fosgate amp and a CD tuner xplode head unit. With custom speaker pods and sub box.

congradulation to the organisers and to all the winners, oh and to the watermello truck that rolled and gave me plenty of time to sit in traffic lol and I must congradulate Wes, I've been fortunate enough to see the car several times but after going for a spin I can definatly say that it is the most refined VW I have ever had the pleasure to drive in, period.

my computer must be slower than you guys as it takes too long to get to "THE Thread" now that it's so long. cheers. P'S' on the way home we got as far as loganhome i think and the small screw on the gear selector wriggled it's way loose. AAAGGGHHH!! no gears. gerry rigged a screw and ripped off a bit of t-shirt to get us on the move again then just about to hit the Bruce Hwy and the fan belt broke, cleaned up the vacumn advance pipe, the oil temp wires, the throttle spring dad a spare belt and made it home. Eventfull day. cheers, fish

This is just a quick thanks from the organisers to everyone who came along to the show. Thanks also to everyone who is posting images here as well (I was too busy organising to get out and have a look around 🙁 so this is my chance to see what we did!). It also shows those who didn't come what they missed! Perhaps next year....

PS: sorry about the line at the gate - it was probably a mixture of a giant convoy arriving all at one time and me having a chat to everyone as they came through the gate - we will be working on this for next year. Oh, yeah - check out Channel 9 news on the TV over the next day or so. They were there with their cameras and we are told it will be shown soon. (You could be famous!!😀 )

Actually I was very interested in it as it's the set-up I want. I have been looking at a nicely made imported one for caravans/campers. that also feature side skirts to give a nice outside room, but ~$1500!!!
What this guy has is an awning (for a house) from this mob http://www.thewarehouse.com.au/
that comes with a plastic material ~$200. He then took it to a canvaser to replace the plastic with canvas and also make clip on sid skirts. Gives the same result, but all under $400!!!
It winds out and is self supporting. Use the legs if it's windy or rainy.

Its pretty small but it has all the cars...well most...i just walked past every car..sorry if i missed any cars or if ur insulted by the lowish quality of the video..i had to shrink it to make it interest viable🙂

U can also all laugh at the chipmunk voices..i sped it up !

this karmann turned up just as the judging for the karmann's was called out, very tidy peice of work and the owners were pretty cool too🙂 its soooo red!

the video is a wmv...or a windows movie file..i used it because i thought that most people would have it ..but if u open it in windows media player it should ask.. or at least try to download a new codec for itself...if not look for a codec on google..and if that dont work i will upload a video in a different codec..

I gotta ask..how big would people be willing to download???..then i can actually make it look good

the video worked for me, windows media player opened, automatically downloaded a new codec and then played it fine. I liked it! I even got to see my engine 🙂

Well done to all the participants of the day and congradulations to everyone who took home a trohpy on the day - I am still waiting for a list of the trophy winners to be sent to me. Great pics of another unreal gathering of VW's.During November we have also had the gathering in Melbourne and our show in Adelaide,and the trip to Tassie,it is fantastic that so many people put in so many hours to keep all these VW cars not only on the road-but of a standard that I believe could hold their own anywhere in the world.I buy VW mags from USA and UK and don't see anything that's better than what we do.From our show in Adelaide and the one in Melbourne,it would appear there are heaps more cars that don't even take part in the show,or belong to other clubs,so imagine if they all turned up to take part on the day-VW HEAVEN.Any way, I have had a fantastic November scanning thru' all the pics posted from all the gatherings and would like to thank all the people who have taken the time to post pics for our pleasure-again a great job and many thanks

any pics from these shows you speak of? Would love to see what everyone else gets up to - might even convince me to get one of my cars finished and make the treck to see it first hand (actually, wouldn't take much to convince me!:P )
