dom
Unity-28 ·
From where, as there is not kit for type 3's!
typ-fre ·
they are custom bolt on made for the type 3's
the guy from the states im speaking too can get some hes just gotta make up a fixed prce to sell them to me, y are u interested???
dom
Daniel ·
How would they bolt on? Would you use air cylinders instead of your shocks?
Would have to see them, but would be interested.
typ-fre ·
thier was a pic of them in pic of the week but i cant find it ne more its air bags they use instead of shockswith little compressors hooked up to a remote
dom
typ-fre ·
hey unity wat ya doin 2day????
Daniel ·
Would it be safe to have the whole weight of a bus on the shock mount? I would've thought that would put too much pressure on the bolt, and may sheer it off.
Would like to see some pics though if you can find some.
typ-fre ·
nahh its not that heavy they use bags on the lead sleads and they are like over 2 ton
dom
typ-fre ·
heres a pic of ABS on a bus
lol
dom
Unity-28 ·
Dom, you gotta learn a few things about bags first. I have a kit for the bug, type three is different set up at the front. the only guy that has made some is Bert in belgium (i think) Daniel, you would need a full custom front beam for the bus, as having all your weight on the shock mount is not advisable. Obviosly the rear of a type 3 and a bug are the same, so the bug erar kits will work, but the front is a totally different story. Sleds might be heavy, but the have A arm front suspension, so a little stronger, and also they are all rebuilt usually with the chassis z framed, and the like....Air Suspension is not as easy as it sounds....
What Am Idoing today, Im at work...

As for that pic, That there is not "bolt on". Firstly you would have to IRS your bus, and then make new Upper shock and Bag mounts. And that is just the start.

typ-fre ·
fair enuf well he told me that he can get them for type 3's aswell coz i told him i had one and i want bags
dom
Unity-28 ·
I can get you bags as well, Its putting them in thats the hard part. Mine is a completely bolt in kit, but its for a bug
That is a notch thats bagged. Maybe email the guy and ask what he did...
N!
typ-fre ·
fanx man!!!
umm wats the pic site???
dom
Daniel ·
I thought it was sounding a bit too easy to bag my bus.
It's going low soon with an IRS and 4in narrowed front, but bags would be the ultimate.
There are a few people in the states developing kits for T2's, might have to email them again to see how those are coming along.
it looks the same as my front end?? whats the diffrence??
dom
typ-fre ·
just a question ??
why do you put N! ????
dom
Unity-28 ·
Cause My Name Is Nectar! And if youve got a type 3, the beams are totally different to a type 1 beam...
That there set up also isnt your bolt on type. That would cost you quite a bit in fabrication.

typ-fre ·
GOD DAMN IT!!!!
dom
sleeper ·
just by curisosity would i be able to get some for an oval????😀
Unity-28 ·
Yeah!
Unity-28 ·
The thing you must remember is that you will need Dropped spindles and a narrowed front beam with most of the kit form ones....
N!
BenettonVW ·
Daniel, my thoughts were similar.
Narrow the beam of the bus, which I have heard is easier than Beetles, but haven't crawled under to look at why. 4 inches sounds like a lot, and I understand it is the maximum, or close to, for a bus beam.
I am putting a type 3 rear end in it, so as Nectar said, the Beetle kit could go in there. I guess it is just the money and engineering stopping me.
typ-fre ·
yeah but all of it would pass but

alen V ·
yeh mate ya gotta go to K-MART 3rd row from the right they are on special for typ frees :thumb
typ-fre ·
ey man dont be a smartass
i dont like that shit
dom
Unity-28 ·
Dom it will pass if done properly. You have to get it engineered, and believe me, they will pick the smallest little thing they can find....Jim with the rear of a bus, I would put a 4 link in there, just for the ride quality...alot of money, but you wont have any probs later..
Have you guys tried contacting Iain Sherriff at maxhydraulics.com here in the UK ?
You can also contact him HERE I think he should be able to point you in the right direction.
Rob.
Unity-28 ·
Yeah that will fit yours, but thats only the back....what about the front?
typ-fre ·
do ya reckon i could fit it on the back and thats it?? would it look good???
just make the ass drop??
dom
BenettonVW ·
Dom, I can make you a banner out of that pic if you want.. That thing you made is hurting my eyes.. 😀
Those kits look ok. LowlifeVW forum members have some from him from memory..
BerT3 ·
Hello,
Here I am.
You can buy "proper" air bag setups for every type of VW except the T3.
I bought the seperate parts with the help of Iain of Maxhydraulics.
It was a lot of work. Even made dropped spindles to suit.
Forget the air cylinder - air shocks setups. Ask people who rode with them.
Air bags are a total different world, either driveablilty and money-wise.
I am currently talking with a major company to have the setups promoted.
In the meanwhile check out my website now you still can.
Here Dom.. Link to this.. If you don't like it, let me know..

ohhhh MY GOD THATS MADDDD !!!!!!! FANX JIM OMG OMG OMG OMG

Now im only a girl and im sure i dont know as mush as much as anybody on here but ive had alot of probs getting bags for my bug. Ok so its a newbug, and they could put it on its bump stops but it was also going to cost me $5000. Next problem thats happening now in QLD is that those smartarse minitruck(hilux) boys are welding something to the body(all legal) and so when they drop the height they are making sparks on the road while driving. Also when they get pulled over by the feds, the fed says thats too low. Minitruck dickhead says no its not, pumps the bags back up and drives away.
So im not sure what the Vic Roads thinks of all this but if they've outlawed them in Qld, they bound to be gone in NSW.

typ-fre ·
nahh in vic its ok but some rules doo apply when it comes to chopping suspention and modifying
i dont know about nsw though

airbags are not illegal anywere in australia as long as they are fully enginered, even QLD(some fool started a rumour and everyone in QLD panicked). if you want to disagree with me then call any shop who installs them or an enginere, they should be able to tell you the laws involved.
typefre(if your serious) go talk to the guys at fabricate this, they were more than helpfull with my type3 questions and were going to bag the front end on my notch(i was going to do the back, its easy with an irs) but just got sick of owning a vw and have sold my notch.
Brad

forgot to say that in some states(QLD included) you must have an auto leveling device that does not alow a car to drive below a certain height.
typ-fre ·
did it cost extra for the front to be bagged?? coz unity sed that alot of mods and $$$ was involved??
dom

nectar is right, there is a bit of fabrication to do, and custom work doesnt come cheap. i have some pics of patricks squareback(the blue one on thesamba linked earlier) front setup but he isnt running front shocks and i dont want to start the whole no shocks debate again(closed minded people this means you!!) so i wont post the pics(so dont ask!) if your really interested typefre let me know and i will email them to you.
he isnt running dropped spindles so it really doesnt go super low(plus its on 17" rims) but the ride quality would be a hell of alot better than stock.
typ-fre ·
yeahh i am interested just curious i suppose lol can u email them to me plz
