Oran Park South and Eastern Creek

Secoh ·

What sort of lap times are people getting from their VW's around here? I'm curious as to how they compare to other cars.

fullnoise ·

On October 18 2003
Jak did a 2:03.156 around the creek
CT did a 2:03.251 around the creek

The other competitors in the assoc. class:
Audi S3 2:03.959
Audi TT 2:04.89
Nissan GTR 2:06.516 (?????)

Oran Park South
Jak 0:55.92
Rudi 0:51.13

Wakefield Park is my favorite. I did a 1:16.06

You can have a look at the times in more detail at www.natsoft.com.au

jakriz ·

CT & I are doing 55.8 & 55.9 at Oran Park south & identical 2.03 flat for Eastern Creek, this is on street tyres & full street registered cars.
Far from the quickest numbers & there are plenty of quicker drivers & cars out there but we still have fun
regards
Jak

jakriz ·

oops, CT & I must have posted at exactly the same time, wonder how many tenths of seconds that was dude????😀

vw54 ·

Yep these 2 guys will be able to list the lap times whats about Rudies times do you have them..

Jak do you still have Georges times i sent you a while ago for Eastern Creek.

jakriz ·

Yeh Dave, he did a 2.08 for Eastern Creek but I think that u said that was with 2 people in the car (navigator) & Rudy has done a 1:56 I think for Eastern Creek, curved windscreen would be fantastic for that track

Jak
Update Rudy just posted 1:54 at Eastern Creek last Friday 13 feb and I think you guys need to do some research there is a guy Paul Zanello who has posted 1:50 in 69 beetle with full metal body and full rollcage on semi street tyres. Rudy last time at Oran Park South was :50.5

Jak you guys should come to the state rounds this year it is much cheaper to run more support as there could be up to seven vws running if you and CT can along and you would be running in much more equal class. Come along and the vws will be a force.

jakriz ·

Everyone knows about the legend Paul Zanello Retro, he did a 50 around Oran years ago, so did Richard Hozlz in a full metal & registered street car, driven to & from the track!
I did the group 7 thing for a few years so don't try & tell about more 'equal' groups.
Having a bunch of MX5 owners protest cause u beat them in a VW, having your trophy taken away because I had non-factory bodywork (the rear wing), I didn't know MX5's come with full roll cages, slicks & avgas in the tank??...

No thanks, its the Porsche club for me, we just have a Sunday drive, doesn't matter what modifications are done to the car because no-one cares there. The Porsche guys are in the same vote, they just want a drive on the track, thats the best attitude for me & the organisational skills of the club are outstanding compared to anywhere else.
Theres also little chance of rubbing door handles with anyone, let alone someone in a datsun 120Y
I'm quite happy to pay the extra fee & be surrounded by porsches all day, depends what your kiks are I guess.

regards
Jak

fullnoise ·

But Jak, it will be so cool because Retro will be there. What do you reckon?

Mind you he'll probably have his anonymous arse dressed up as a woman.:sandrine

CYA, CT

Craig Torrens ·

Wow Richard did a 50 as well, when did he do this ?
What car was it ?

This is the first time I've heard this :jesus

Cam ·

Yeah, I'm with Jak and CT. I much prefer cruisy club days with a vast variety of vehicles having a good time. If I was to do anymore, I'd buy a race car, get my FIA license and do it full on, but thats a no can do for me. So I'll have fun spending a cruisy sunday with a bunch of other racing enthusiasts.

jakriz ·

"Dak to the Past" was doing 50's around Oran Park & high 50's around Amaroo in a street registered car with no slicks whilst u were driving in the bush & I was still in nappies.
I've got 3 hours video footage of Richard leading a pack of v8 & rotary sport sedans around Oran & Amaroo park. It also has Paul Zanello doing the same in the class below that Richard ran.
It looks quite funny seeing a beelte leading the pack with number plates on.

The reason most people don't know any of this is because Richard doesn't walk around with his results on his sleeve, no matter how impressive they are.
What a legend:thumb

Cam ·

Weird... Where did my reply go:jesus

Was that an oval which Richard used to race?

Craig Torrens ·

Cool, so what car was it ?

Love to see a copy of the video, you never get tired of watching car racing :thumb

The only time I've seen Richard race was the same year you watched me at Amaroo. He was in a yellow bug with a 2007cc doing 63's or 62's, not his car though !

jakriz ·

The car was a an oval setup similar to CT's, full glass windows, daily driver etc etc, even won the Gene Berg trophy one year as well as having a baby seat capsule in the back during the working week.
2332cc, IDA's , k-8 etc, 142hp @ the wheels. revved to 8200rpm. go the stroke!

That yellow aero looker was Jergo's, even with only 80hp @ the wheels , Richard got it down to 60 seconds at Amaroo with slicks, not too bad apparently, for a street car.

Craig Torrens ·

That's fantastic:thumb Richard should have no problems getting Alex's and Deiters cars producing the same times.
So we should see 50sec oran park runs easily, especially with the compounds used in the road tyres compared to 15years ago and the cars being the same/similar.

And 142hp from the 2332cc, this is what Paul will be getting from his V force motor :thumb

Richard should be able to get 120hp no probs then from your motor, with his experience.

So we should see some good action on the track then.

Maybe Richard could have a drive ?

P.S Only 80hp from a twin carbed over 2lt ??? what's the go ?

jakriz ·

try to contain yourself Craig.............

u should try another edit, u get more sincere each time.........

Are they your Kadrons coughing Steve..?

Craig Torrens ·

I just want us all to be happy with each others results 😉

P.s. I edited spelling errors, I was that sincere when I originally posted 😀

To see a majority of beetles doing 50 flat at Oran will be fantastic 😎

Swampwitch ·

you guys have nothng on my type3
It would do oran park in about 4 minutes
not fast but I would get to see the fast cars each time they passed me
🙂

Not making fun of anyone but myself 😉

I just love to see people who love their VW's

Marc

jakriz ·

I have limits in my driving ability, I'd be stoked to do 54's like u, Any faster & I don't think that I could handle it. Must be frighfully fast doing 50's

Just so u didn't think I was making sh#t up Craig see pic below:thumb

Craig Torrens ·

I would never think you would make sh#t up Jak😀

Wow, 59.08sec for Amaroo with 142hp and a 60sec with a 80hp road car ! I'm not too sure which one is the most impressive ! :jesus

And look.......................no edits 😉

jakriz ·

just depends what u get impressed by a guess, both times were many years apart remember. Things change.

I suppose if u can get 100hp at the wheels with some kadrons, a big bore kit & a 284Duration cam with 360thou lift, 142 for a 48ida 2332cc is possible back in the old days huh Craig....?😉

Craig might out-edit you Jak, but you're still way ahead on deletes.

Coughing ............. mmmmmmmmmm not sure what brought that on. Probably that damn 009.
😀

jakriz ·

I'm just big enough to admit when something I've written is inappropriate,

I think u need to go back to the tech section to sort out all your problems.

jakriz ·

Must feel pretty nice & snug up on that bandwagen huh Steve?:kiss

Yeah, thanks Jak. I always value your opinion.

Unlike you, I will always stand behing what I put on this forum. If I think something is inappropriate I won't put it up here in the first place!

I went back to the tech section and all I could find was truncated threads - posts missing all over the place.

Whatever................very tired

Just wondering why you guys are the only ones to hear or see that Richard run those times surely it would of been big news around the vw scene. Last time I spoke to Richard he told me that Rudy had just set the bench mark and would be hard to catch, ( correction Rudy's time ORAN PARK SOUTH 50.05 not 50.5).
What I don't understand if your impressed with what times Richard has run and therefore praise the products he uses (THE STROKER) then you should be very impressed with what Rudy is doing and the products that he is using it is only logical.
And I was very genuine wanting you guys at the state rounds (GROUP 7 HAS IMPLODED) Why would you want to go to the Porsche Club days and get your arse smacked and pay twice as much, as the State rounds. I suppose it is ok to say "I GOT BEATEN BUT IT WAS A PORSCHE" but when you have to say " I GOT BEATEN BY A 120Y NOW THAT IS SHAME." :P😀:thumb

retro ·

Jak can you post the video too it would make good viewing.

And CT if you only knew who you were calling a :sandrine you may think twice.😀:kiss

jakriz ·

Richard did it in a street registered daily driver, enough said really.

If Richard has it, then go into V-Force and ask to see it, dude.

Was that the oval painted in three colors ? one being orange ?

That's not street legal I think Jak is confused. Might have been driven on the street still doesn't make it legal.
Jak I know the situation when you losted your trophy it was 1600 production class need I say more.

Cam ·

Looks street legal to me. :jesus Any reason why it would'nt be?
Over 10cm ground clearance. Lights, bumpers, wipers, etc...

Alex Holzl ·

What doesnt look street legal wat is it the "number plates"...????

Craig Torrens ·

well that's the one I'm asking about :thumb

And by the description that Jak has provided it seems to be the one he is talking about !

Just like Rudy's car with number plates............

Alex Holzl ·

craigie that car was a not JUST a race car it was his CAR for USEAGE and he DROVE it to the RACE TRACK to RACE it and then he would DRIVE it home and drive IT to the SHOPS and then home.. and DRIVE it to the RTA to get his REGO for the CAR... lol wat you think? rudy has done very well with a small motor because his car is full gutted and is trailered to the track

my dads car was a race car with number plates and my mums car is a shopping troy with number plates whats difference?

Cam ·

Craig, who is Rudy and what car does he drive?

HP, big vs little. It's all relative to the car that it's in. What sort of racing you do, how the power is put down, etc...

jakriz ·

ANYWAY...........at the end of the day, if there are hot vw's on the track kiking butt then it's all good.
I'm sure that Craig, CT, Paul, John L, Rudy, the Hozlz' & myself are all doing it for the fun factor & because we love vw's. Whether we are in a genuine competition like the group 7 series or with the Porsche club or wth Mini club, who cares?
I have a ball with the Porsche club & don't mind paying the extra $50 for triple the amount of track time that I will get everywhere else, trained instructors that can drive in the car with me that I would normally pay hundreds of dollars for, & did I forget to mention that I get to be surrounded by exotic machinery all day.
Its the way that I get my kiks, the smile at the end of the day & the drive home from the track says it all.I beleive that u were sincere Retro when u aksed us along, but as said before, been there done that.
People laughed at me when I said that I was going to join the Porsche club, now 4 years later there will be 8 of us with beetles having a go, & having a go is what it's all about , isn't it:thumb
regards
Jak

PS after all this, we still havn't heard what Retro's times are on the track.

Cam ·

Amen to that Jak! Do it for the love of dubs, thats all. Or else I'd be racing a 944 or early M3.

Alex Holzl ·

well when i go racing i jack-up my plates and change the car!! :P

Well said Jak:thumb

I think your car is the only true daily driver currently running on the track. Its probably more than full weight, has all the interior plus some extra's, and has a relatively standard exterior.

My car WAS honestly registered and I used it weekly, but I wouldn't have called it a daily driver, it is a budget club race car.

Richards car may have been registered, but it too should not be called a daily driver. Like Alex said, it was a race car with rego. I loved watching this car race and always admired it at the VW shows, but it was certaintly built for Racing first. It had no back seat, no passenger seat, absolutely minimal interior lining, gusseted and welded body shell, full cage, race seat, Air ducting from the floor up to the firewall, slicks, big brakes, aeroguards, spoilers etc etc. And when I watched it race it was trailered! It was a very well prepared race car :thumb

Richard did very well with this car, and was heavily supported at the time by Vintage VW, but lets not try and con people into thinking it carried the shopping, the kids, and was driven to the office 😠

Jak, your car does that :thumb

Ummm NO. Horsepower is very important,so is the right torque range, car preperation and handling, and driver skill.

I would say horsepower is not the only thing :thumb

HAHAHAHHA :P
