A lot of us have a name for our VW's. What is yours and why is it?
Our 1975 Microbus is called 'HELBUS'
Fleur had dreams of her Kombi driving out of hell on fire. These dreams gave her ideas on the colour scheme and style for her bus.
The 1970 Beetle is called either 'KOC' or the 'Kocmobile'
This is quite obvious once you see the rego.

I bought my current 67 beetle after it was sitting in a shed for seven years, before that ive got no idea where its been or what its done. Anyhow when i was ripping it to bits for the current resto i found half a coconut inside the front quarter, kind of obvious to call it "coconut" , suprisingly enuff it was a coconutty beige colour, soon to be finnished in a beigy green coconutty colour.
God bless the coconut and all that sail in her!

I have a theory.....
It goes a little something like this. As soon as you impart a human name on a mechanical object, you immediately impart onit human personalities. Once you have done this, you are inviting unreliability and imperfections. Why? Cos humans are imperfect and unreliable..... Odd, I know, but thats me... I know cars can be unreliable and imperfect, but why tempt fate.....
Although I love my car more than many other things in my life, or more than I should, it (note... no sex... imparts a human trait on it...) will always be "the GTI" or "the Golf". Having said that, I believe i belong to my car as much as it belongs to me... Craaaazy...
(my previous experience in naming cars proved my theory.... 81 sigma named earnest (as in "it tried in...") and an 88 magna wagon called..... actually I cant remember, but it was something to do with being boring.... heh heh)
56astro ·
Our Oval is either called:
"Poppy's Beetle" cause it was my dad's car;
or "The VeeDub"
bus356 ·
My new splitty didn't come with a name so I'm tossing up on a few now. So far it's looking like Yertle (the Turtle)... because it's green and slow.

<------------------------------- My Beetle is called Shazza, dont know why but thats what I called her and now everyone calls her Shazza not 'the beetle' 😉
oval TOFU ·
My oval's name is Belle. (this seems to be a popular name with bugs here!) I named her after Belle from Disney's "Beaty and the Beast" because I reckon she's the fittest Disney chick ever.
BiX ·
Mine is called oddjob (rego is OJB 201)
and the green bug is Fifi (rego 242 FYI)
baybuscamperkid ·
come to think of it, everyone i know refers to my kombi as "the bus", or "that VW thing that your working on", or "that thing under the tarp" but i think i might use Eleanor (gone in 60 seconds), or see what other names wre used int that movie.
twoguns ·
ive named my new twin cab , 'lois' as in supermans fling. as she is in need of saving, and i am saving her 😉. i hope mk2 is not on the money, as my name might imply that she will always need saving. damn i hope not.
hey kombinkarma, i thought fes was spelt f.e.s. for foreign exchange student. 😉
jac named or splitty george. as it sat in our front yard for yonks doing nothing but looking all daggy. no offence to any georges on this forum or known personally by any forum members. 🙂 but now she is thinking of a new name for a new look.
neville the notch. named by a friend as he thought it was nifty, for the $$$ when we picked it up.
our old chop top beetle was named 'deathtrap'. for very obvious reason.
manxed69 ·
What's wrong with you people, their all just cars!!! My Manx is a Manx and that's the end of it.
And for all you people out there reading this with discussed looks apon your faces, would you expect anything less from someone who goes around cutting up Beetles to get his beach buggy.
😉
HotRodMatt ·
One old bug was called Max - because well best not to go into it... She might be reading.
My current bus is called Winky. WKY plates and the banged in right front indicator.
Project is called Bruisin' - from the Reverend Horton Heat song "Cruisin for a Bruisin'" - "Don't say nothing about his girl or his car, you might just fight the unwinnable war." And because it's gonna bruise all the purists out there that think old metal shouldn't be cut.
kOMBI KARMA ·

As for mine, she is called the "Ol Girl"
or just plain "Bug"
I never knew til recently all my local respite clients named her the "Love Bug"
to my annoyance as she doesn't resemble
the love bug in any way....but I guess its a Byron thing...
And I am known as the "VW Kid" to some of the elderly men (at the local retirement village) as everything I eat, breath, sleep & own is VW related...

my superbug is simply "Project X" at the moment, because you need a really good imagination to see the finished result it's in that much of a mess at the moment.

Swampy ·

Glad other people name their cars as per their number plates.
Dads first VW was Piffy - No. Plate letters were PFY
Dads Second VW was New for Word - No. Plate letters were NFW. And it was bought as a work car.
My first beetle was Herbie 1 - Okay I was young!
My first fastie was - wait for it - Herbie 2. There is nothing I can say except - I was young and obviously lacking in imagination.
Current fastie is Bethany. Was just driving around thinking of names and it just stuck when we got to Bethany.
nbturbo ·
Our Double Yellow NB is called Mello. The 64 Beetle is Vera and the 56 Type 4 engine beast is Ferocious(I call it IVOCUS) VW poeple seem to have a family member type afinity with car naming. Some time back I was having a discussion with a lady who owned a Ford Fairmont.During the chat I referred to her car as a Falcon-got my head bitten and told it was not a Falcon-it's a Fairmont.I have a new BA XR6 ute which I refer to as the "ute".My brother in law has one of those older XR6 cars which is not a Falcon-it's "the XR6".Piss weak I reckon-at least let it have it's own butch sounding name.
Secoh ·
a mate used to have a blue bluebird which was a POS, so it got called the BlueTurd, but then he replaced it with a rusty brown Bluebird, so it got called the TurdBird. If he ever got a 3rd one we were going to cut out the middle man and call it the TurdTurd.
mscabrio ·
My NB Cabrio is called Veronica, as in Veronica Volkswagen. She is a girl, she is feminine and she is cute (a lot like me !!!!!!😉 ). My 65 beetle which is waiting for a restoration is called Beatrice because she is old fashioned and regal. My first beetle was I was 16 was called Herbie ..... no idea why ..... It was blue, BUT it did have a mind of it's own ..... sometimes it would be nice and sometimes it would become moody and misbehave ..... My herbie was a boy !!!!

Well my '76 was a yellow beetle, but as I went to Uni in Canberra and my family was in Brisbane I had to drive the distance a few times per year. Bets tiem I did was just on 12 1/2 hours on the Newell, and as I was (read was) a runner in school I thought that it was a good middle distance (well Perth is Long Distance) run, so Sebastian (as in Sebatian Coe the UK runner). Got shortened to Seb though most times. I believe he is still running around Brisbane. Sold him back in 95 🙁

Well my 1960 beetle is Yemaniji – which in Brazilian voodoo/spiritualism is the “Ocean Goddess of the Crescent Moon”!
Our ‘76 campervan is Geisha (she’s one classy chick)
Our twin cab ute is Sastun – which is a special possession that the Mayan medicine doctors used to communicate with the spirits
There was also Leo the 1962 splitty – because he had a sticker with “Leo Motors” on the back
And Project “B”
And Bessie who was a 70’s bug
They become better friends with you when you talk to them and name them! 🙂

Zak is my buggy's name, that's what his number plate says...ZKK...yeah, I know it sounds a bit lame, it's the wife's tradition. Besides, she wouldn't let me buy number plates with anything cool on them. Probly just as well too after all the money Zak has cost us.
We've also got a swift called Elliot, coz his plate is TSL. 😉
and no my wife is not an english teacher....

in the late 80's I had bought a 58 beetle that was a real heap (still had 8 months rego ). We called it the leppa because of the number plates ( LEP- ) it suited the bug really well as things would quite often literally fall off it when driving down the road . One day I drove through the main street of Dapto , hit a bump in the road and one of the rear bumper overriders fell off ( making a hell of a noise as it skittled down the bitumen ) I was so embarrassed that I never even stopped to pick it up .
:cry

My step-dad's car is called Red because it's blue..but also because it's number plate is RED, there didn't seem to be much point arguing with the number plate!
